The Spirit of Antichrist

Presented By Pastor Russell Standish, recorded at the Gazeley Bible Fellowship meeting, England.

[00:00:00] Two Sabbaths ago I was preaching in the city of Ipo. It may not be the best known city in Malaysia, it's the third largest city. I only wish you could have visited Ipo. For some reason or other they've only just now declared it to have city status. It's a city of 420,000 people.

[00:00:22] And we have I think in Peninsular Malaysia easily the most attractive and largest facilities of any of our churches in that city of Ipo. It's a very wealthy and prosperous city.

[00:00:38] For it is the centre of the tin mining industry of Malaysia and those of you who have a little knowledge of economics may be aware that 70% of the world's tin is produced in that nation.

[00:00:54] It is also a centre of commerce, centre of the rubber industry once again. Malaysia is the largest rubber producing nation on earth. And as a result you just go down street after street after street after street of magnificent mansions where people live.

[00:01:16] I think many times we have no idea of the affluence of the far east.

[00:01:24] And I want to talk a little bit about that tomorrow because I am always amazed that people somehow know how wealthy Japan is and think the rest is the starving millions of Asia.

[00:01:35] That's not how it is.

[00:01:37] That's not how it is.

[00:01:39] That's not how it is.

[00:01:40] That's not how it is.

[00:01:40] There you will see people living very much as we do here and in some cases in a way that those who are materialistic, and I trust that's not one of us here, may be envious.

[00:01:57] But it was thrilling to preach to God's people there in the city of Ipoh.

[00:02:03] For God has a grand group of believers in that city.

[00:02:11] Wherever one goes, it's a tremendous thrill whether one is speaking to thousands or whether to just a few humble members.

[00:02:21] It is an enormous thrill to be able to preach the great truth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

[00:02:30] Tomorrow I wish to tell you a little of what happened when the Heartland team came to Southeast Asia.

[00:02:38] I don't believe that there has ever been a series of Heartland Bible conferences that have had such an impact as the ones in Southeast Asia.

[00:02:51] I was absolutely thrilled as I saw the influence of those messages upon the hearts of our ministers, our leaders, and most importantly our lay people in Southeast Asia.

[00:03:08] And I'm going to tell you that thrilling story tomorrow.

[00:03:11] I'm sure you're going to be interested in what I am presenting this afternoon on the new translations and Islam.

[00:03:23] I'm not going to go into a great analysis of the Islamic faith.

[00:03:32] But Malaysia is a very, very sincerely and in some ways fanatically Islamic nation.

[00:03:42] Despite the fact that only 50% of the population is Islamic, that is the Malay part of the population.

[00:03:51] Nevertheless, that is the controlling influence in the country.

[00:03:57] And it is very evangelical and very intolerant of the Christian faith.

[00:04:05] And it's a real privilege to be a witness to Jesus in a country such as that.

[00:04:11] But I want to be speaking specifically about the very books that we are using in order to understand the word of God.

[00:04:22] I find today that many, many Seventh-day Adventists unwittingly are using the new translations.

[00:04:31] I've seen some here already.

[00:04:33] My eyes have been alert.

[00:04:35] And God bless you.

[00:04:37] God bless you.

[00:04:38] But I trust that as you listen to the program this afternoon, that you will have a different perspective on that issue.

[00:04:46] And you will see, as we come to the conclusion of that program, how Islam, the greatest threat in the world to Christianity today,

[00:04:57] unless it be apostate Christianity, I guess that is the greatest threat.

[00:05:01] But outside the Christian faith, there is nothing compared with Islam as a threat to our faith.

[00:05:10] How they are using these perverted new translations of the scripture,

[00:05:14] translations upon which we must never depend.

[00:05:18] And you'll see why this afternoon.

[00:05:20] In an effort to undermine the faith of those who would be interested in the great truths that we have.

[00:05:28] I am shocked that the average Seventh-day Adventist today believes that the new translations are simply the old Bible in modern English.

[00:05:39] I want to tell you, if that's what it was, I would have no cause to speak to you.

[00:05:45] But I'm going to show you very clearly that it is a perversion of the words that God has brought to us.

[00:05:52] And brethren and sisters, it aches my heart when I come and I see men and women who are depending upon these perverted forms of the scripture.

[00:06:01] Instead of upon the plain word of God, the word of God for which the great martyrs of the past died.

[00:06:09] No one died for the new international version of scripture.

[00:06:13] I want to tell you that.

[00:06:15] No one died for that.

[00:06:16] No one died for the revised standard version.

[00:06:19] Not one person stood at the stake because of that.

[00:06:24] Or the new English version.

[00:06:26] Or any of these others which have taken the perverted manuscripts.

[00:06:30] Those manuscripts so dear to Catholicism and brought them even into the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

[00:06:36] And brethren and sisters, I want you at that meeting this afternoon.

[00:06:40] For what we read of God's word.

[00:06:43] Surely, if the Bible is the basis of our faith, it better be the Bible.

[00:06:48] And not the devil's counterfeit of the Bible as those versions have become.

[00:06:55] I also want to speak this evening to you on the subject of temptation.

[00:07:02] And we will be taking up that important matter of perfection.

[00:07:09] All brethren and sisters, perfection amongst many Seventh-day Adventists today has become a bad word.

[00:07:17] But I want to speak to you about it from conviction.

[00:07:23] I believe in Christian perfection.

[00:07:26] And I believe it because the scripture is full of it.

[00:07:31] I believe it because the spirit of prophecy is full of it.

[00:07:37] I believe it because God has offered it to you.

[00:07:40] And he's offered it to me.

[00:07:44] And you will notice that basically what we are discussing this weekend are the simple elements of our faith.

[00:07:56] I have not come here to present to you some esoteric matters.

[00:08:02] I have come to remind us again of the basic fundamental truths that we as Seventh-day Adventists hold.

[00:08:15] And which are based on a plain thus saith the Lord.

[00:08:25] I was pleased to see that we have copies of our Firm Foundation magazine here.

[00:08:32] Edited by Pastor Ron Speer.

[00:08:34] I'm sure most of you have read some of those magazines in the past.

[00:08:40] I want to say that my assessment of that magazine is that at least in the English-speaking Adventist world,

[00:08:53] and being unacquainted with any other language, I'm in fact confined to that one language,

[00:09:00] it is the most important Seventh-day Adventist magazine today.

[00:09:06] And I want to encourage each one of you to become subscribers to that magazine.

[00:09:14] There you will not have to be concerned that there will be something that will be an embarrassment to you and your faith.

[00:09:22] You will find the truth of God presented in that magazine.

[00:09:26] And I am so grateful to Pastor Speer that he has set forward the great truths as an encouragement to me and to each one of us.

[00:09:38] I was thrilled as we went through Malaysia to find the number of people who were subscribing to it in Malaysia.

[00:09:47] I know when my brother spoke in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city, our headquarters church there, our mission headquarters church there,

[00:09:56] I was extremely surprised the number of people who said,

[00:10:01] we're subscribing to our firm Foundation magazine.

[00:10:08] I found the same in India.

[00:10:11] I was privileged to be there last October.

[00:10:15] And once again, I found that there were those.

[00:10:18] This magazine in a short time is getting into the corners of the earth.

[00:10:23] And there's a reason for that.

[00:10:25] Because there's a great need for it.

[00:10:27] And so I want to say, here's one copy of it.

[00:10:31] I want to say that those of you who are missing this publication

[00:10:36] are doing yourself a disservice.

[00:10:39] It is a publication that you should be sharing

[00:10:43] with your friends.

[00:10:45] I was travelling from Singapore to Bombay on Air India last October.

[00:10:53] And sitting across the aisle from me was an Indian gentleman.

[00:10:58] I noticed that he took some beer.

[00:11:02] And so I felt that he had no Christian persuasion.

[00:11:05] But I was wrong.

[00:11:07] Sadly, today, one does not represent the Christian faith

[00:11:16] or fail to represent it just by drinking beer.

[00:11:19] I wish that was true.

[00:11:21] And after a little while, we got into conversation.

[00:11:24] And I said to this gentleman that I was going to Puna

[00:11:28] to Spicer College, our Adventist college.

[00:11:32] And he immediately lit up.

[00:11:34] He said, oh, you're a Seventh-day Adventist.

[00:11:38] I said, yes, I am.

[00:11:41] And then he started to use terms like the voice of prophecy

[00:11:44] in Salisbury Park, which is the headquarters

[00:11:47] of the Southern Asia Division.

[00:11:50] And so naturally, I knew that here was a man

[00:11:53] who knew a little about Seventh-day Adventists.

[00:11:55] I said, what's your contact with Seventh-day Adventists?

[00:11:58] He said, I went to a Seventh-day Adventist school

[00:12:01] as a young boy.

[00:12:03] And in fact, he said, I thought at one stage

[00:12:06] that I would like to study at Spicer College.

[00:12:09] He was not a Seventh-day Adventist.

[00:12:13] And I thought, what can I do?

[00:12:15] He handed me his card.

[00:12:16] He's the manager of a computer company in Bombay.

[00:12:20] I thought, what can I do?

[00:12:23] And all of a sudden, I realized there was something

[00:12:25] I could do.

[00:12:26] And I wrote to Pastor Spear, and I said,

[00:12:29] Pastor Spear, put this man on your mailing list

[00:12:33] and send him our firm foundation.

[00:12:35] For I had confidence that he would again read

[00:12:39] the old Adventist truth.

[00:12:41] And I was thrilled as he said to me,

[00:12:42] he said, I know that the Sabbath is God's day.

[00:12:45] We're wrong keeping Sunday.

[00:12:47] He was a Methodist.

[00:12:49] And I said, well, isn't that important to you?

[00:12:54] And he said, well, he said, that's where all my friends are.

[00:12:59] But I pray that as he reads the truths of God

[00:13:03] in this magazine, I continue to pray

[00:13:07] that they will again stir in his heart

[00:13:10] the need to follow Jesus with all his heart.

[00:13:13] Only eternity will tell us.

[00:13:16] Before I commence my address,

[00:13:18] I see that there are a lot of children here.

[00:13:22] I'm just so pleased, mothers and fathers,

[00:13:24] that you've brought these little boys and girls here.

[00:13:28] And I'm glad to see them here today.

[00:13:32] This is the time for our families

[00:13:34] to hear the truth of God.

[00:13:36] And I want to tell an experience,

[00:13:38] and I'm not going to take just a moment or two.

[00:13:42] I think our children deserve more than that.

[00:13:45] And I trust that when we've completed the story,

[00:13:49] that they too will be thrilled

[00:13:50] by the message that I have for each one of us this morning.

[00:13:57] I matriculated from high school at a very young age.

[00:14:01] For some reason or other,

[00:14:03] my brother and I have been pushed on and on.

[00:14:05] I'm not suggesting that that is a wise form of education,

[00:14:08] but that's what happened.

[00:14:09] I was barely 16.

[00:14:12] When I matriculated,

[00:14:14] went to Avondale,

[00:14:16] and in those days you could become a primary school teacher

[00:14:19] with two years of training.

[00:14:21] And so,

[00:14:22] I think I was just one month beyond my 18th birthday,

[00:14:27] when here I was,

[00:14:29] a fully fledged school teacher,

[00:14:31] primary school teacher,

[00:14:34] wondering where I was going to be appointed.

[00:14:36] I would have thought it would have been reasonable

[00:14:38] to appoint such a young fellow

[00:14:39] to a large school where he could be

[00:14:42] under the influence of an experienced headmaster.

[00:14:47] But the brethren thought otherwise.

[00:14:50] And I was sent to a one teacher school,

[00:14:54] way out the back of New South Wales.

[00:14:56] Now,

[00:14:57] I know you all realise that

[00:15:00] Australia is a very vast

[00:15:03] and sparsely populated area

[00:15:05] out the back.

[00:15:07] But the vast majority of us

[00:15:09] are very urban people.

[00:15:11] Australians,

[00:15:11] for some reason or other,

[00:15:13] love to live in the cities.

[00:15:15] Why?

[00:15:15] We have 16 million people

[00:15:17] with three and a half million of them in Sydney,

[00:15:20] over three million in Melbourne,

[00:15:21] over a million in Brisbane,

[00:15:22] over a million in Adelaide,

[00:15:24] over a million of them in Perth.

[00:15:25] You can see that

[00:15:26] about two thirds of them

[00:15:28] are in those five little spots

[00:15:29] on a continent

[00:15:30] of three million square miles.

[00:15:33] And I had had no experience

[00:15:36] living in the country.

[00:15:37] And I can still remember

[00:15:39] on this hot,

[00:15:41] hot January day,

[00:15:44] for remember,

[00:15:45] you're south of the equator there,

[00:15:48] travelling overnight

[00:15:49] way out to a place

[00:15:51] I'd never been.

[00:15:52] I felt very lonely.

[00:15:54] And I had been told

[00:15:55] to go to the city of Dubbo

[00:15:56] and there to find

[00:15:59] the church pastor

[00:16:00] and he would take me

[00:16:01] to the school,

[00:16:01] yet 30 miles away out

[00:16:03] in the back of nowhere.

[00:16:05] And so I took a taxi

[00:16:07] from the railway station.

[00:16:08] I was exhausted

[00:16:09] with second class sit-up

[00:16:11] all the way

[00:16:12] after that long, long trip,

[00:16:15] hundreds of miles.

[00:16:18] And I came to the pastor's house.

[00:16:23] The temperature was already

[00:16:25] over 100 degrees Fahrenheit

[00:16:27] and it was to get up

[00:16:28] to 112 that day.

[00:16:30] And I knocked on the door.

[00:16:33] No answer.

[00:16:35] I knocked again,

[00:16:37] getting more desperate.

[00:16:38] No answer.

[00:16:40] And the neighbour

[00:16:40] heard what was happening.

[00:16:42] He said,

[00:16:42] look, it's no use.

[00:16:43] They're away on holiday.

[00:16:45] Here I was

[00:16:46] in an unknown town.

[00:16:48] I had no idea

[00:16:49] where the school.

[00:16:50] I just knew it was

[00:16:51] on a farm

[00:16:51] in the back of nowhere.

[00:16:54] And I was now

[00:16:56] about two or three miles

[00:16:57] from the railway station

[00:16:58] with two huge,

[00:17:00] heavy suitcases.

[00:17:03] No taxis in sight,

[00:17:05] of course,

[00:17:06] on a Sunday morning.

[00:17:08] And I,

[00:17:09] even though I was

[00:17:09] a strong young fellow

[00:17:11] of 18,

[00:17:12] I was exhausted

[00:17:13] by the time I got back

[00:17:14] to the railway station.

[00:17:16] And I said,

[00:17:17] when?

[00:17:17] I knew that it was

[00:17:18] nearer a town

[00:17:19] called Narrowmine,

[00:17:21] which was about

[00:17:21] 25 miles further out.

[00:17:24] I said,

[00:17:24] when is the next train

[00:17:25] to Narrowmine?

[00:17:26] He said,

[00:17:27] there'll be one

[00:17:27] in half an hour.

[00:17:29] I said,

[00:17:29] when's the next one

[00:17:30] after that?

[00:17:31] He said,

[00:17:31] tomorrow.

[00:17:32] Well,

[00:17:33] that put the issue

[00:17:34] beyond doubt.

[00:17:35] And I can still remember

[00:17:36] getting into

[00:17:37] that train.

[00:17:37] It was one of these,

[00:17:38] what we call a dog box carriage.

[00:17:40] I don't know whether

[00:17:41] they have them here

[00:17:42] where you just have seats

[00:17:44] one opposite the other

[00:17:46] in a single compartment

[00:17:47] all the way down

[00:17:48] the carriage.

[00:17:49] And I was so tired

[00:17:50] that I just fell fast asleep

[00:17:51] and I was snoring

[00:17:52] my head off

[00:17:54] by the time

[00:17:55] we reached

[00:17:55] Narrowmine.

[00:17:57] But fortunately,

[00:17:57] I'd mentioned

[00:17:58] to people in the carriage

[00:18:00] that that was

[00:18:00] my destination.

[00:18:01] And so they

[00:18:02] woke me up

[00:18:03] and I

[00:18:03] sort of

[00:18:05] dragged myself

[00:18:06] out of the train.

[00:18:09] I was sweating

[00:18:10] like mad.

[00:18:11] It was so hot.

[00:18:13] And I just

[00:18:13] looked at

[00:18:14] Narrowmine

[00:18:15] and to think

[00:18:16] this wasn't

[00:18:16] the end of the line

[00:18:17] for me.

[00:18:19] There was just

[00:18:20] an old dirt road.

[00:18:22] It was a town

[00:18:23] of a thousand people.

[00:18:24] And if ever

[00:18:25] it looked like

[00:18:26] a forsaken

[00:18:27] forsaken place

[00:18:30] that did.

[00:18:33] And there was

[00:18:34] one taxi

[00:18:35] at the railway station

[00:18:36] and I went up

[00:18:37] and I said

[00:18:38] do you know

[00:18:39] where Mumblepeg is?

[00:18:41] That was as

[00:18:42] bad as that sounds.

[00:18:43] It was the name

[00:18:44] of a property

[00:18:45] where the people

[00:18:47] lived.

[00:18:47] He said

[00:18:48] yes I do.

[00:18:49] I said

[00:18:49] just take me.

[00:18:51] And as

[00:18:52] mile after

[00:18:53] mile along

[00:18:54] this red dirt

[00:18:55] of course

[00:18:55] they've got

[00:18:55] lovely highways

[00:18:56] now but then

[00:18:57] this was 1952

[00:19:00] red dirt road

[00:19:02] was churned

[00:19:03] up behind us.

[00:19:05] I just felt

[00:19:06] that I was

[00:19:06] going to the

[00:19:07] end of the earth.

[00:19:11] When I got

[00:19:12] there the

[00:19:12] parents

[00:19:13] Seventh Day

[00:19:14] Adventist farmers

[00:19:15] with a huge

[00:19:16] sheep farm

[00:19:18] lovely

[00:19:18] orange

[00:19:19] grove

[00:19:21] asked me

[00:19:22] did I want

[00:19:22] to see the

[00:19:23] school?

[00:19:23] I said yes

[00:19:24] I'd like to

[00:19:24] see the school.

[00:19:25] So they took

[00:19:26] me five miles

[00:19:28] from where I

[00:19:29] was to the

[00:19:30] school and

[00:19:32] hardly once

[00:19:33] did we touch

[00:19:34] a road.

[00:19:34] It was just

[00:19:34] up a little

[00:19:35] bush track.

[00:19:36] I can remember

[00:19:37] my head

[00:19:38] nearly going

[00:19:38] through the

[00:19:39] roof of the

[00:19:39] truck that we

[00:19:40] were in as

[00:19:41] we went over

[00:19:42] the bumps

[00:19:43] in between the

[00:19:44] gum trees.

[00:19:45] It was an

[00:19:46] old stock

[00:19:46] route.

[00:19:47] And eventually

[00:19:48] I came to

[00:19:49] that little

[00:19:51] Seventh Day

[00:19:52] Adventist

[00:19:53] school.

[00:19:54] Oh what a

[00:19:57] disappointment

[00:19:58] it was.

[00:19:59] I got out

[00:20:00] of the

[00:20:00] car and I

[00:20:01] looked around

[00:20:01] and all I

[00:20:02] could see

[00:20:03] was wheat

[00:20:04] wheat

[00:20:05] wherever I

[00:20:06] looked.

[00:20:07] And about

[00:20:08] a mile and

[00:20:10] a half I

[00:20:10] could see the

[00:20:11] lone house

[00:20:12] on the

[00:20:12] horizon.

[00:20:15] And that

[00:20:16] was where a

[00:20:16] city boy was

[00:20:17] going to be

[00:20:17] teaching.

[00:20:19] I want to

[00:20:19] say although it

[00:20:20] was terribly

[00:20:21] hot I don't

[00:20:22] think I've

[00:20:22] ever felt as

[00:20:23] cold as I

[00:20:24] did in the

[00:20:24] winters out

[00:20:25] there.

[00:20:25] It was

[00:20:26] bitterly cold

[00:20:27] in the

[00:20:27] winters and

[00:20:30] terribly hot

[00:20:31] in summer.

[00:20:32] Well I got

[00:20:33] the school

[00:20:33] together.

[00:20:34] That school

[00:20:34] only lasted

[00:20:35] nine years

[00:20:35] by the way.

[00:20:37] I was there

[00:20:38] in the sixth

[00:20:38] year of its

[00:20:39] existence.

[00:20:40] But there

[00:20:41] were a group

[00:20:42] of Adventist

[00:20:43] farmers and

[00:20:44] they believed

[00:20:45] in Christian

[00:20:45] education.

[00:20:46] And I praise

[00:20:47] God that they

[00:20:48] had that

[00:20:48] little school.

[00:20:49] I had the

[00:20:50] record attendance

[00:20:51] that was ever

[00:20:52] to be in

[00:20:52] that school

[00:20:54] when we

[00:20:55] reached 13

[00:20:56] pupils.

[00:20:57] That was the

[00:20:58] record that it

[00:20:59] was never to

[00:21:00] be broken

[00:21:00] before it

[00:21:01] closed.

[00:21:04] And it

[00:21:05] was an

[00:21:05] interesting

[00:21:06] school.

[00:21:06] We used

[00:21:07] to have

[00:21:07] kangaroos

[00:21:08] hopping

[00:21:08] through the

[00:21:09] playground.

[00:21:12] Occasional

[00:21:13] emu not

[00:21:13] many of

[00:21:14] those.

[00:21:16] A lot

[00:21:17] of snakes

[00:21:17] some of them

[00:21:18] quite venomous.

[00:21:19] Black

[00:21:20] snakes,

[00:21:20] brown

[00:21:21] snakes they

[00:21:21] can be

[00:21:22] fatal.

[00:21:23] Others

[00:21:23] were non

[00:21:24] venomous like

[00:21:25] the carpet

[00:21:25] snake.

[00:21:26] There were

[00:21:26] big goannas.

[00:21:28] Goannas are

[00:21:28] huge lizards.

[00:21:30] I don't think

[00:21:30] you've got to

[00:21:31] be a fisherman

[00:21:32] and probably

[00:21:32] I've underestimated

[00:21:33] the size.

[00:21:35] Plenty of

[00:21:36] rabbits.

[00:21:37] Australia

[00:21:38] didn't do

[00:21:38] themselves any

[00:21:39] service when

[00:21:40] they introduced

[00:21:40] that animal

[00:21:41] from this

[00:21:41] country.

[00:21:43] We could

[00:21:44] have done

[00:21:44] without them

[00:21:45] and there

[00:21:46] were many

[00:21:47] of those.

[00:21:48] We had

[00:21:48] a happy

[00:21:50] time in

[00:21:50] many ways.

[00:21:52] But you

[00:21:53] know I

[00:21:53] want to

[00:21:54] tell the

[00:21:54] children about

[00:21:55] one little

[00:21:55] boy that

[00:21:56] I got in

[00:21:57] that school.

[00:21:58] For after

[00:21:59] I'd been

[00:21:59] teaching a

[00:22:00] few weeks

[00:22:01] a farm

[00:22:03] labourer

[00:22:03] was employed.

[00:22:05] I've never

[00:22:06] met a

[00:22:07] family that

[00:22:08] was so

[00:22:09] degraded as

[00:22:10] that family.

[00:22:11] They came

[00:22:12] up from

[00:22:12] Sydney.

[00:22:13] There was

[00:22:14] the man

[00:22:14] and his

[00:22:14] wife.

[00:22:15] The man

[00:22:16] was a

[00:22:18] very poor

[00:22:20] worker I

[00:22:20] might say.

[00:22:21] The wife

[00:22:22] and he

[00:22:23] used to

[00:22:23] fight all

[00:22:24] the time.

[00:22:25] And I

[00:22:26] have never

[00:22:27] heard such

[00:22:28] language pass

[00:22:29] between a

[00:22:29] married couple.

[00:22:31] Talk about

[00:22:32] love in the

[00:22:32] family.

[00:22:33] If there

[00:22:33] was it

[00:22:34] wasn't very

[00:22:34] evident to

[00:22:35] me.

[00:22:36] If each

[00:22:37] one of

[00:22:37] them was

[00:22:38] even

[00:22:38] one hundredth

[00:22:39] part as

[00:22:40] bad as

[00:22:40] the other

[00:22:41] described them

[00:22:42] they'd have

[00:22:42] been pretty

[00:22:42] terrible.

[00:22:45] And they

[00:22:46] had a

[00:22:46] son.

[00:22:47] Or at

[00:22:48] least the

[00:22:48] man had

[00:22:48] a son.

[00:22:49] He was

[00:22:50] not the

[00:22:50] son of

[00:22:51] the woman.

[00:22:52] And he

[00:22:53] was still

[00:22:53] in Sydney

[00:22:54] and after

[00:22:54] a few

[00:22:54] weeks they

[00:22:55] brought

[00:22:55] him up

[00:22:56] and asked

[00:22:57] if he

[00:22:57] could come

[00:22:57] to school.

[00:22:58] I'll never

[00:22:58] forget

[00:22:59] meeting

[00:22:59] Kevin.

[00:22:59] He was

[00:23:00] a seven

[00:23:00] year old

[00:23:01] boy.

[00:23:02] You see

[00:23:03] today he

[00:23:04] would be

[00:23:04] in his

[00:23:04] forties.

[00:23:06] But he

[00:23:06] was a

[00:23:06] seven

[00:23:07] year old

[00:23:07] boy at

[00:23:08] that time.

[00:23:11] And I

[00:23:12] remember

[00:23:12] walking over

[00:23:13] to the

[00:23:14] house where

[00:23:15] they were

[00:23:16] residing.

[00:23:17] And here

[00:23:18] was this

[00:23:19] big miserable

[00:23:20] woman.

[00:23:21] His step

[00:23:22] mother.

[00:23:22] mother.

[00:23:23] And there

[00:23:24] was this

[00:23:24] little skinny

[00:23:25] boy.

[00:23:26] Nose

[00:23:27] running.

[00:23:28] I didn't

[00:23:29] blame him.

[00:23:30] It was

[00:23:30] no joy

[00:23:30] living in

[00:23:31] that house.

[00:23:33] And the

[00:23:33] mother said

[00:23:34] to me,

[00:23:35] oh come

[00:23:36] here you

[00:23:36] better come

[00:23:37] and see

[00:23:38] Kevin.

[00:23:40] She says

[00:23:41] I'm ashamed

[00:23:41] of him.

[00:23:41] He don't

[00:23:42] know

[00:23:42] nothing.

[00:23:43] That's what

[00:23:44] she said.

[00:23:44] He don't

[00:23:45] know

[00:23:45] nothing.

[00:23:48] And you

[00:23:49] I have

[00:23:50] never seen

[00:23:50] such a

[00:23:52] pitiful look

[00:23:53] on the face

[00:23:53] of a little

[00:23:54] boy.

[00:23:54] How would

[00:23:54] you like

[00:23:55] to be

[00:23:55] introduced

[00:23:55] to your

[00:23:56] new

[00:23:56] school

[00:23:56] teacher

[00:23:57] with that

[00:23:58] sort of

[00:23:58] a

[00:23:58] recommendation.

[00:24:00] And the

[00:24:01] little kid

[00:24:01] looked up

[00:24:03] to me

[00:24:03] pitifully

[00:24:06] and he

[00:24:07] said

[00:24:08] trying to

[00:24:09] impress

[00:24:10] and to

[00:24:11] counteract

[00:24:11] this awful

[00:24:14] statement

[00:24:14] that had

[00:24:15] been made

[00:24:15] by his

[00:24:16] stepmother.

[00:24:17] He said

[00:24:17] I know

[00:24:18] what one

[00:24:18] and one

[00:24:19] makes.

[00:24:20] And I

[00:24:21] thought to

[00:24:21] myself I

[00:24:22] surely

[00:24:22] hope

[00:24:23] at the

[00:24:23] age of

[00:24:23] seven he

[00:24:24] knows that

[00:24:24] and perhaps

[00:24:25] a little

[00:24:25] more.

[00:24:26] When I

[00:24:26] got him

[00:24:27] to school

[00:24:27] that was

[00:24:28] about the

[00:24:28] extent of

[00:24:29] his

[00:24:29] mathematical

[00:24:30] understanding.

[00:24:31] He had

[00:24:32] no idea

[00:24:33] of the

[00:24:33] letters of

[00:24:34] the

[00:24:34] alphabet.

[00:24:34] I

[00:24:34] don't

[00:24:35] think

[00:24:35] he'd

[00:24:35] had

[00:24:35] any

[00:24:35] education

[00:24:37] training

[00:24:37] at all.

[00:24:39] And I

[00:24:40] thought what

[00:24:41] am I going

[00:24:41] to do with

[00:24:42] this boy

[00:24:42] by the

[00:24:43] levels of

[00:24:43] New South

[00:24:44] Wales.

[00:24:44] He was

[00:24:45] supposed to

[00:24:45] be a

[00:24:45] second

[00:24:46] grade

[00:24:46] student.

[00:24:47] He

[00:24:47] wasn't

[00:24:48] even ready

[00:24:48] for first

[00:24:49] grade.

[00:24:50] But I'll

[00:24:51] never

[00:24:51] forget

[00:24:52] two days

[00:24:53] after he

[00:24:54] came.

[00:24:57] We didn't

[00:24:57] know what

[00:24:58] to do for

[00:24:59] activities,

[00:25:00] exercise,

[00:25:01] and so what

[00:25:01] I used to

[00:25:02] do was to

[00:25:03] have the

[00:25:03] children run

[00:25:05] between two

[00:25:06] huge gum

[00:25:06] trees.

[00:25:07] And I'd

[00:25:07] have a

[00:25:08] one-lap

[00:25:09] race and a

[00:25:10] two-lap and a

[00:25:11] four-lap and an

[00:25:12] eight-lap.

[00:25:12] It was quite a

[00:25:13] long race by the

[00:25:14] time you took

[00:25:15] the eight-lap

[00:25:15] race.

[00:25:17] And I'd

[00:25:18] get them

[00:25:18] running back

[00:25:19] and forth,

[00:25:20] doing long

[00:25:21] jumps and all

[00:25:22] these sorts of

[00:25:22] things,

[00:25:23] anything to

[00:25:24] get a little

[00:25:24] exercise.

[00:25:26] And I can

[00:25:27] remember them

[00:25:29] starting off on

[00:25:30] an eight-lap

[00:25:30] race.

[00:25:32] He'd never

[00:25:33] been there.

[00:25:33] He didn't

[00:25:33] realize how

[00:25:34] far it was.

[00:25:36] And he

[00:25:37] started running.

[00:25:38] Remember,

[00:25:38] I had children

[00:25:39] there,

[00:25:39] 12 years old.

[00:25:40] He was

[00:25:40] seven.

[00:25:41] And he

[00:25:42] started running

[00:25:43] vastly ahead

[00:25:44] of all these

[00:25:45] 12-year-old

[00:25:45] children because

[00:25:46] they knew how

[00:25:46] far it was.

[00:25:48] And they

[00:25:48] were spacing

[00:25:49] their effort.

[00:25:51] And he

[00:25:51] just ran

[00:25:52] like mad,

[00:25:53] ran,

[00:25:54] ran,

[00:25:54] ran,

[00:25:54] ran,

[00:25:55] ran,

[00:25:55] ran.

[00:25:56] And I

[00:25:56] called out

[00:25:57] to him.

[00:25:57] I said,

[00:25:57] Kevin,

[00:25:58] take it easy,

[00:25:59] boy,

[00:25:59] it's a long

[00:26:00] way to go.

[00:26:01] He didn't

[00:26:02] seem to hear

[00:26:02] what I said.

[00:26:03] He just

[00:26:03] kept going.

[00:26:04] And of course,

[00:26:04] the other

[00:26:05] children knew

[00:26:05] that he'd

[00:26:06] soon dropped

[00:26:06] from exhaustion

[00:26:07] and they'd

[00:26:08] overtake him.

[00:26:08] So they

[00:26:09] weren't very

[00:26:09] perturbed

[00:26:10] until they

[00:26:11] got into

[00:26:11] the seventh

[00:26:12] and eighth

[00:26:12] lap and he

[00:26:13] was still

[00:26:13] going.

[00:26:15] And he

[00:26:16] came home

[00:26:16] in a time

[00:26:17] because I

[00:26:18] had a little

[00:26:18] stopwatch,

[00:26:20] faster than

[00:26:20] any of the

[00:26:21] 12-year-olds

[00:26:22] had ever

[00:26:22] done.

[00:26:22] It really

[00:26:22] taught them

[00:26:23] a lesson.

[00:26:23] It wasn't

[00:26:24] long,

[00:26:24] of course,

[00:26:24] before they

[00:26:25] were out

[00:26:25] stretching him

[00:26:26] because they

[00:26:27] realized the

[00:26:28] potential that

[00:26:29] there was

[00:26:29] to improve.

[00:26:31] And you

[00:26:31] know,

[00:26:31] that left

[00:26:32] an indelible

[00:26:33] impression upon

[00:26:34] me.

[00:26:34] I said,

[00:26:34] there's

[00:26:34] something in

[00:26:35] this boy.

[00:26:36] He's got

[00:26:37] something to

[00:26:37] him.

[00:26:39] Well,

[00:26:39] we used to

[00:26:40] have morning

[00:26:40] worship and

[00:26:42] the children

[00:26:42] who were all

[00:26:43] related except

[00:26:44] for Kevin,

[00:26:44] of course.

[00:26:46] They had a

[00:26:47] very important

[00:26:48] matter that

[00:26:48] they prayed

[00:26:49] about and

[00:26:49] that was

[00:26:50] Uncle Gordon.

[00:26:51] Gordon Merritt,

[00:26:52] his name was.

[00:26:53] He was their

[00:26:53] uncle.

[00:26:54] I didn't know

[00:26:54] him at the

[00:26:55] time.

[00:26:57] And he was

[00:26:58] only a man

[00:26:59] in his 40s

[00:27:00] and he'd had a

[00:27:01] heart attack,

[00:27:01] very serious

[00:27:02] heart attack.

[00:27:03] and so every

[00:27:05] morning in

[00:27:05] the prayer,

[00:27:07] please be with

[00:27:07] Uncle Gordon

[00:27:08] and bless

[00:27:09] his heart

[00:27:10] attack or

[00:27:10] something like

[00:27:11] that,

[00:27:11] the little

[00:27:11] children would

[00:27:12] pray.

[00:27:13] I want to

[00:27:14] say if

[00:27:15] ever there

[00:27:15] was a

[00:27:16] prayer that

[00:27:16] was answered,

[00:27:17] that prayer

[00:27:18] was answered

[00:27:18] because Gordon

[00:27:19] Merritt in

[00:27:20] his 80s is

[00:27:21] still alive

[00:27:21] today.

[00:27:22] So that

[00:27:23] was a

[00:27:23] prayer that

[00:27:25] God heard.

[00:27:26] it.

[00:27:28] And

[00:27:30] eventually I

[00:27:31] said,

[00:27:32] after some

[00:27:32] weeks,

[00:27:33] I said,

[00:27:33] would you

[00:27:34] like to

[00:27:35] pray to

[00:27:36] Kevin?

[00:27:37] He never

[00:27:38] knew what

[00:27:39] prayer was

[00:27:39] until he

[00:27:40] came to

[00:27:40] that school.

[00:27:42] And he

[00:27:43] said,

[00:27:43] yes,

[00:27:43] yes,

[00:27:43] he was an

[00:27:44] eager little

[00:27:44] fellow.

[00:27:45] And by this

[00:27:45] stage,

[00:27:46] his mathematical

[00:27:46] knowledge,

[00:27:47] he very

[00:27:48] quickly learned

[00:27:49] to read,

[00:27:50] very quickly.

[00:27:50] It wasn't

[00:27:51] because he

[00:27:51] had a great

[00:27:52] teacher,

[00:27:52] he just

[00:27:52] had the

[00:27:53] innate

[00:27:53] ability.

[00:27:54] It was

[00:27:54] just a

[00:27:55] matter of

[00:27:55] just

[00:27:56] that.

[00:27:58] And I'll

[00:27:59] never forget

[00:28:00] his first

[00:28:00] prayer.

[00:28:02] We all

[00:28:03] knelt down.

[00:28:03] I wondered

[00:28:04] what he

[00:28:05] would pray.

[00:28:07] For he

[00:28:08] had no

[00:28:09] experience

[00:28:10] from home.

[00:28:12] And he

[00:28:13] just prayed,

[00:28:14] dear

[00:28:15] Jesus,

[00:28:17] and then

[00:28:18] there was

[00:28:18] a long

[00:28:19] embarrassed

[00:28:19] silence.

[00:28:20] Poor

[00:28:20] Kevin

[00:28:20] couldn't

[00:28:21] think of

[00:28:21] another

[00:28:21] thing to

[00:28:22] say.

[00:28:24] And

[00:28:24] after a

[00:28:25] little

[00:28:25] while I

[00:28:25] said,

[00:28:26] amen,

[00:28:26] and that

[00:28:26] was his

[00:28:27] first

[00:28:27] prayer.

[00:28:28] I tell

[00:28:29] you,

[00:28:30] to

[00:28:30] utter

[00:28:30] the

[00:28:31] name

[00:28:31] of

[00:28:31] Jesus

[00:28:31] is

[00:28:32] a

[00:28:32] wonderful

[00:28:33] and

[00:28:33] deep

[00:28:33] prayer.

[00:28:35] But it

[00:28:35] wasn't

[00:28:36] long before

[00:28:36] he was

[00:28:37] praying,

[00:28:38] just as

[00:28:38] adeptly as

[00:28:39] any of the

[00:28:40] other children.

[00:28:41] And I

[00:28:41] used to

[00:28:42] smile,

[00:28:42] perhaps you

[00:28:42] shouldn't

[00:28:43] smile in

[00:28:43] prayer,

[00:28:43] but I

[00:28:44] couldn't

[00:28:44] help it

[00:28:44] because

[00:28:46] every time

[00:28:46] he prayed,

[00:28:47] he'd say,

[00:28:47] and dear

[00:28:48] Lord,

[00:28:48] be with

[00:28:48] Uncle

[00:28:49] Gordon

[00:28:49] and help

[00:28:50] his heart

[00:28:50] attack.

[00:28:51] I think

[00:28:51] he thought

[00:28:51] that was

[00:28:51] part of

[00:28:52] prayer.

[00:28:52] He,

[00:28:53] of course,

[00:28:53] knew nothing

[00:28:54] about

[00:28:55] Uncle

[00:28:55] Gordon.

[00:28:55] It was

[00:28:56] no relation

[00:28:56] of his,

[00:28:59] but it

[00:29:00] was really

[00:29:00] thrilling to

[00:29:01] see the

[00:29:01] development of

[00:29:02] that little

[00:29:03] boy.

[00:29:03] Well,

[00:29:04] one day I

[00:29:04] walked over

[00:29:05] to the

[00:29:05] little home

[00:29:06] where they

[00:29:06] were living

[00:29:07] and the

[00:29:07] father accosted

[00:29:08] me.

[00:29:10] And not

[00:29:11] in friendly

[00:29:11] terms,

[00:29:12] he said,

[00:29:12] listen,

[00:29:13] are you

[00:29:14] teaching that

[00:29:14] boy of

[00:29:15] mine to

[00:29:16] pray or

[00:29:16] something

[00:29:17] at school?

[00:29:18] I said,

[00:29:19] yes,

[00:29:19] as a matter

[00:29:20] of fact,

[00:29:20] I said,

[00:29:20] we have

[00:29:21] prayer for

[00:29:22] God's blessing

[00:29:23] upon your

[00:29:24] boy and

[00:29:24] the other

[00:29:24] children every

[00:29:25] morning.

[00:29:27] Oh,

[00:29:27] he said,

[00:29:28] I thought

[00:29:28] as much.

[00:29:30] I thought

[00:29:31] as much.

[00:29:33] He said,

[00:29:34] because he

[00:29:34] said,

[00:29:35] last night

[00:29:35] he said,

[00:29:36] I went

[00:29:37] into his

[00:29:37] bedroom and

[00:29:38] I found

[00:29:38] the little

[00:29:38] bounder

[00:29:40] praying beside

[00:29:41] his bed.

[00:29:42] Oh,

[00:29:43] I want to

[00:29:43] tell you,

[00:29:44] I was very

[00:29:44] touched when

[00:29:45] I heard

[00:29:45] that.

[00:29:46] Here was

[00:29:47] a little

[00:29:48] boy from

[00:29:49] the most

[00:29:50] appalling

[00:29:50] home.

[00:29:52] I haven't

[00:29:53] told you

[00:29:53] the half.

[00:29:54] I've never

[00:29:54] seen such

[00:29:55] pathetic

[00:29:56] hygiene in

[00:29:57] all my

[00:29:57] life.

[00:29:58] Out the

[00:29:59] back in

[00:29:59] summer,

[00:29:59] there are

[00:30:00] lots of

[00:30:00] flies that

[00:30:01] didn't seem

[00:30:01] to worry

[00:30:01] them.

[00:30:02] The only

[00:30:03] time that

[00:30:03] the flies

[00:30:04] seemed to

[00:30:04] leave their

[00:30:05] food was

[00:30:05] the moment

[00:30:06] they put it

[00:30:06] in their

[00:30:07] mouths.

[00:30:07] They made

[00:30:08] no effort

[00:30:08] to cover

[00:30:09] it.

[00:30:10] I just

[00:30:11] couldn't go

[00:30:11] over there

[00:30:12] when they

[00:30:12] were eating.

[00:30:12] I was

[00:30:13] too nauseated

[00:30:14] watching their

[00:30:15] performance.

[00:30:17] Here was

[00:30:17] this little

[00:30:18] boy in

[00:30:18] that horrible,

[00:30:21] horrible

[00:30:24] environment

[00:30:24] environment.

[00:30:25] I was

[00:30:26] who quite

[00:30:26] spontaneously

[00:30:27] had got

[00:30:28] down by

[00:30:29] his bed

[00:30:29] that night

[00:30:32] to pray

[00:30:32] to Jesus.

[00:30:33] I only

[00:30:33] wish I

[00:30:33] knew what

[00:30:35] Kevin prayed

[00:30:36] that evening.

[00:30:38] Maybe he

[00:30:39] was praying

[00:30:40] that God

[00:30:41] would do

[00:30:41] something with

[00:30:42] those parents

[00:30:43] that he

[00:30:43] was living

[00:30:44] with.

[00:30:45] It wouldn't

[00:30:45] surprise me.

[00:30:48] I didn't

[00:30:49] know it as

[00:30:50] those words

[00:30:50] were spoken

[00:30:51] to me,

[00:30:51] but I never

[00:30:52] saw Kevin

[00:30:52] again.

[00:30:54] Never

[00:30:54] saw his

[00:30:55] parents.

[00:30:56] Within an

[00:30:56] hour of

[00:30:57] speaking to

[00:30:57] me,

[00:30:58] the father

[00:30:59] had been

[00:30:59] dismissed.

[00:31:00] He was,

[00:31:00] as I said,

[00:31:01] a shocking

[00:31:01] worker.

[00:31:02] When I woke

[00:31:03] up the next

[00:31:04] morning,

[00:31:04] the family

[00:31:05] was gone.

[00:31:08] And I

[00:31:08] just wonder

[00:31:09] what happened

[00:31:10] to little

[00:31:10] Kevin.

[00:31:12] What sort

[00:31:13] of a

[00:31:14] 43-year-old

[00:31:17] man he

[00:31:18] would be

[00:31:18] today.

[00:31:19] Where he

[00:31:20] is.

[00:31:21] His name

[00:31:21] was Kevin

[00:31:22] Ayres,

[00:31:22] A-Y-R-E-S.

[00:31:25] I don't

[00:31:26] know.

[00:31:28] But I

[00:31:29] am reminded

[00:31:30] that God

[00:31:32] loved him

[00:31:32] very much.

[00:31:34] And I

[00:31:35] just pray

[00:31:35] that the

[00:31:36] few weeks

[00:31:37] that he

[00:31:39] spent in

[00:31:39] that little

[00:31:40] Christian

[00:31:41] school would

[00:31:43] have some

[00:31:44] long-term

[00:31:46] effect upon

[00:31:47] his life.

[00:31:50] And I

[00:31:51] pray to

[00:31:51] our young

[00:31:52] children here

[00:31:53] that they

[00:31:54] will always

[00:31:54] remember the

[00:31:56] influence that

[00:31:57] they can

[00:31:58] be.

[00:31:58] God

[00:31:58] hasn't just

[00:31:59] said to

[00:31:59] the adults,

[00:32:00] go ye

[00:32:01] into all

[00:32:01] the world

[00:32:02] and preach

[00:32:02] the gospel.

[00:32:05] That is a

[00:32:05] task to be

[00:32:06] given to

[00:32:07] every boy

[00:32:08] and to

[00:32:09] every girl.

[00:32:12] And the

[00:32:12] great fact

[00:32:13] was,

[00:32:14] and will

[00:32:15] continue to

[00:32:16] be,

[00:32:16] that children

[00:32:18] have been

[00:32:18] some of the

[00:32:19] mightiest

[00:32:19] witnesses

[00:32:21] for God.

[00:32:22] God, and I

[00:32:22] believe that

[00:32:23] the influence

[00:32:23] of the

[00:32:24] other

[00:32:24] children in

[00:32:25] that school

[00:32:25] was a

[00:32:27] very positive

[00:32:28] influence upon

[00:32:29] heaven.

[00:32:31] Or may

[00:32:32] God bless

[00:32:32] each child

[00:32:33] here,

[00:32:34] that he

[00:32:35] or she

[00:32:36] will determine

[00:32:40] in his or

[00:32:41] her heart

[00:32:43] to influence

[00:32:44] other children

[00:32:45] and even

[00:32:47] perhaps adults

[00:32:49] for the

[00:32:50] love of

[00:32:51] Jesus.

[00:32:55] Let us

[00:32:56] bow our

[00:32:56] heads.

[00:33:01] Father in

[00:33:02] heaven,

[00:33:03] we're about

[00:33:04] to open

[00:33:04] thy word.

[00:33:06] And as

[00:33:07] we do,

[00:33:08] we pray

[00:33:09] that you

[00:33:10] will go

[00:33:10] before us

[00:33:12] and that

[00:33:13] you will

[00:33:16] in your

[00:33:17] love

[00:33:17] guide us

[00:33:19] into all

[00:33:20] truth.

[00:33:21] This we

[00:33:22] pray in

[00:33:22] Jesus'

[00:33:23] name.

[00:33:24] Amen.

[00:33:25] I want

[00:33:25] to turn

[00:33:26] to first

[00:33:27] Timothy

[00:33:28] chapter 3

[00:33:29] and verse

[00:33:29] 16.

[00:33:34] First

[00:33:34] Timothy

[00:33:35] chapter 3

[00:33:37] and verse

[00:33:37] 16.

[00:33:45] And I'm

[00:33:46] sad to

[00:33:46] say that

[00:33:47] those of

[00:33:47] you who

[00:33:48] have a

[00:33:48] modern

[00:33:49] version,

[00:33:50] you will

[00:33:51] find that

[00:33:51] this is

[00:33:52] one of

[00:33:52] the perverted

[00:33:53] texts of

[00:33:54] scripture.

[00:33:59] One of

[00:34:00] the greatest

[00:34:00] truths of

[00:34:01] God has

[00:34:03] been perverted

[00:34:03] in all

[00:34:05] the modern

[00:34:05] translations.

[00:34:07] And so

[00:34:08] I read it

[00:34:10] from the

[00:34:11] true text,

[00:34:13] the true

[00:34:14] Greek text

[00:34:14] as translated

[00:34:15] into the

[00:34:16] English language

[00:34:16] by those

[00:34:17] noble people

[00:34:18] in this

[00:34:18] country in

[00:34:19] the 17th

[00:34:20] century.

[00:34:21] First

[00:34:22] Timothy 3

[00:34:23] 16.

[00:34:24] And without

[00:34:24] controversy,

[00:34:26] great is

[00:34:28] the mystery

[00:34:29] of godliness.

[00:34:33] God

[00:34:34] those of

[00:34:34] you who've

[00:34:34] got a

[00:34:34] modern

[00:34:35] translation,

[00:34:35] the next

[00:34:36] word will

[00:34:36] not be

[00:34:37] there.

[00:34:38] Oh and

[00:34:39] what a

[00:34:39] loss it

[00:34:39] is,

[00:34:40] that

[00:34:41] perversion

[00:34:42] of this

[00:34:42] text.

[00:34:44] God,

[00:34:44] not he,

[00:34:46] but God

[00:34:46] was manifest

[00:34:47] in the

[00:34:48] flesh.

[00:34:49] There's a

[00:34:50] world of

[00:34:50] difference

[00:34:51] between

[00:34:52] God

[00:34:53] was manifest

[00:34:54] in the

[00:34:54] flesh and

[00:34:55] all modern

[00:34:55] translations

[00:34:56] who say

[00:34:56] he or who

[00:34:57] was manifest

[00:34:58] in the

[00:34:58] flesh.

[00:34:58] Brethren

[00:34:59] and sisters,

[00:35:00] you and

[00:35:00] I are

[00:35:01] manifest

[00:35:01] in the

[00:35:02] flesh.

[00:35:02] That would

[00:35:03] only uplift

[00:35:04] Christ's

[00:35:05] human nature,

[00:35:06] important as

[00:35:07] that is,

[00:35:07] but it

[00:35:08] does not

[00:35:09] uplift the

[00:35:10] great divinity

[00:35:11] of our

[00:35:11] Lord and

[00:35:12] Saviour.

[00:35:13] That God

[00:35:14] was manifest

[00:35:15] in the

[00:35:15] flesh.

[00:35:16] And every

[00:35:16] time I

[00:35:17] hear men

[00:35:17] and women

[00:35:18] reading that

[00:35:19] text from

[00:35:19] a perverted

[00:35:20] version,

[00:35:21] I feel

[00:35:22] very,

[00:35:23] very unhappy

[00:35:24] for

[00:35:25] deliberately

[00:35:27] in the

[00:35:28] city of

[00:35:28] Alexandria.

[00:35:30] Those

[00:35:31] manuscripts

[00:35:32] written by

[00:35:33] Paul were

[00:35:35] perverted.

[00:35:38] We'll be

[00:35:39] talking, as I

[00:35:40] said, a

[00:35:40] little about

[00:35:40] that.

[00:35:41] Great is

[00:35:43] the mystery

[00:35:44] of godliness.

[00:35:46] God was

[00:35:48] manifest in

[00:35:49] the flesh.

[00:35:50] So there

[00:35:50] you have

[00:35:51] the definition

[00:35:53] of the

[00:35:55] mystery of

[00:35:55] godliness.

[00:35:57] It's so

[00:35:58] clear, and

[00:35:59] that's what I

[00:35:59] love about

[00:36:00] the scripture

[00:36:02] is its

[00:36:03] clarity.

[00:36:07] And I

[00:36:07] want to

[00:36:07] say, those

[00:36:08] who feel

[00:36:09] that it's

[00:36:09] not clear

[00:36:10] in the

[00:36:11] translation I

[00:36:11] have read,

[00:36:13] I don't

[00:36:14] know what's

[00:36:14] wrong with

[00:36:14] your English.

[00:36:15] I can't

[00:36:15] see anything

[00:36:16] difficult about

[00:36:18] great is

[00:36:19] the mystery

[00:36:19] of godliness.

[00:36:21] God was

[00:36:22] manifest in

[00:36:23] the flesh.

[00:36:24] You don't

[00:36:25] have to have

[00:36:25] a PhD to

[00:36:26] understand that.

[00:36:28] God was

[00:36:29] manifest in

[00:36:30] the flesh.

[00:36:30] If anyone

[00:36:31] asks you,

[00:36:32] what is the

[00:36:32] mystery of

[00:36:32] godliness?

[00:36:33] You have

[00:36:34] a plain,

[00:36:35] thus saith

[00:36:36] the Lord.

[00:36:37] God was

[00:36:38] manifest in

[00:36:39] the flesh.

[00:36:39] Divinity

[00:36:41] became

[00:36:42] humanity.

[00:36:44] That is

[00:36:45] the mystery

[00:36:46] of godliness.

[00:36:47] Well, what is

[00:36:47] the mystery of

[00:36:48] iniquity?

[00:36:49] Remember, there

[00:36:49] are two

[00:36:50] mysteries in

[00:36:51] this world.

[00:36:52] There's the

[00:36:53] mystery of

[00:36:53] godliness.

[00:36:54] We cannot

[00:36:55] fully understand

[00:36:56] the mystery

[00:36:57] of either,

[00:37:00] but we

[00:37:01] can know

[00:37:02] that which

[00:37:02] God has

[00:37:03] revealed.

[00:37:04] And it

[00:37:04] is vital

[00:37:05] that we

[00:37:05] understand

[00:37:06] God's

[00:37:06] revelation

[00:37:07] on these

[00:37:07] topics.

[00:37:09] Well, clearly,

[00:37:11] if the

[00:37:11] mystery of

[00:37:11] godliness

[00:37:13] is the

[00:37:14] fact that

[00:37:15] God was

[00:37:16] manifest in

[00:37:17] the flesh,

[00:37:18] one would

[00:37:19] not be

[00:37:22] too far

[00:37:23] wrong in

[00:37:23] assuming that

[00:37:24] the mystery

[00:37:24] of iniquity

[00:37:25] was the

[00:37:25] belief that

[00:37:26] God was

[00:37:26] not manifest

[00:37:27] in the

[00:37:27] flesh.

[00:37:31] Do we

[00:37:32] have any

[00:37:32] biblical

[00:37:32] basis?

[00:37:33] Let's not

[00:37:34] just try

[00:37:35] to deduce

[00:37:36] what it

[00:37:36] is.

[00:37:37] Do we

[00:37:38] have any

[00:37:38] biblical

[00:37:39] basis for

[00:37:39] that?

[00:37:40] Of course

[00:37:41] we do.

[00:37:42] The

[00:37:43] scripture is

[00:37:44] clear that

[00:37:44] the mystery

[00:37:45] of iniquity

[00:37:45] is the

[00:37:46] belief that

[00:37:46] Jesus did

[00:37:47] not come

[00:37:48] as you

[00:37:49] and me,

[00:37:51] that he

[00:37:52] tackles sin

[00:37:53] from an

[00:37:54] advantageous

[00:37:55] position,

[00:37:56] a position

[00:37:57] that you

[00:37:57] and I

[00:37:57] do not

[00:37:58] share.

[00:37:59] That,

[00:38:00] brethren

[00:38:00] and sisters,

[00:38:01] is the

[00:38:02] mystery of

[00:38:02] iniquity.

[00:38:04] And it

[00:38:04] is tragic

[00:38:05] that there

[00:38:06] are Seventh

[00:38:07] Day Adventists

[00:38:08] today who

[00:38:09] are believing

[00:38:10] the very

[00:38:10] kernel of

[00:38:13] the mystery

[00:38:13] of iniquity.

[00:38:15] Oh,

[00:38:15] I pray

[00:38:16] that as we

[00:38:17] understand this

[00:38:18] message today,

[00:38:19] that we

[00:38:20] will recognize

[00:38:23] that the

[00:38:24] mystery of

[00:38:25] iniquity is

[00:38:26] the belief

[00:38:26] that Jesus

[00:38:27] did not

[00:38:29] take your

[00:38:30] nature

[00:38:30] and mine.

[00:38:32] We know

[00:38:33] that the

[00:38:34] mystery of

[00:38:34] iniquity is

[00:38:35] bound up

[00:38:36] with the

[00:38:36] Antichrist.

[00:38:39] It is the

[00:38:40] Antichrist who

[00:38:41] proposes the

[00:38:42] mystery of

[00:38:43] iniquity under

[00:38:45] the power of

[00:38:46] the devil.

[00:38:48] And if we

[00:38:49] want to

[00:38:50] understand the

[00:38:50] Antichrist,

[00:38:51] which of course

[00:38:52] is the topic

[00:38:53] that we are

[00:38:53] discussing this

[00:38:54] morning,

[00:38:55] there is only

[00:38:56] one author

[00:38:58] in the whole

[00:38:58] scripture who

[00:38:59] mentions the

[00:39:00] Antichrist,

[00:39:00] Antichrist,

[00:39:01] and that's

[00:39:02] the Apostle

[00:39:02] John,

[00:39:03] and then

[00:39:03] only in

[00:39:04] his epistles.

[00:39:06] So let us

[00:39:06] go over to

[00:39:07] 1 John

[00:39:08] chapter 4

[00:39:09] and verses

[00:39:10] 2 and 3

[00:39:11] to find out

[00:39:12] what the

[00:39:12] Antichrist is,

[00:39:13] for it is the

[00:39:14] Antichrist who

[00:39:15] is proposing

[00:39:16] the mystery

[00:39:17] of iniquity.

[00:39:22] 1 John

[00:39:23] chapter 4

[00:39:25] and the

[00:39:26] second and

[00:39:26] the third

[00:39:26] verses.

[00:39:27] 1 John

[00:39:30] and every

[00:39:31] spirit,

[00:39:32] hereby know

[00:39:33] ye the

[00:39:33] Spirit of

[00:39:34] God,

[00:39:35] every spirit

[00:39:36] that confesses

[00:39:38] that Jesus

[00:39:39] Christ is

[00:39:41] come in the

[00:39:42] flesh is of

[00:39:42] God.

[00:39:43] There is a

[00:39:43] mystery of

[00:39:44] godliness.

[00:39:47] Every spirit

[00:39:48] that confesses

[00:39:49] that Jesus

[00:39:50] came in the

[00:39:51] flesh is of

[00:39:54] God.

[00:39:56] 1 John

[00:39:56] and every

[00:39:57] spirit,

[00:39:57] verse 3,

[00:39:58] that confesses

[00:39:59] not that

[00:40:01] Jesus is

[00:40:02] come in the

[00:40:03] flesh is

[00:40:04] not of

[00:40:05] God.

[00:40:05] And this

[00:40:11] is that

[00:40:12] spirit of

[00:40:13] Antichrist

[00:40:14] whereof ye

[00:40:16] have heard

[00:40:16] that it

[00:40:17] should come

[00:40:18] and even

[00:40:19] now already

[00:40:20] is it in

[00:40:22] the world.

[00:40:22] Already

[00:40:23] questions about

[00:40:25] Christ's

[00:40:26] human nature

[00:40:27] had arisen.

[00:40:31] Questions

[00:40:32] which were to

[00:40:33] be developed

[00:40:33] over the

[00:40:34] years.

[00:40:36] and which

[00:40:36] were to

[00:40:37] lead to

[00:40:38] what we

[00:40:38] call the

[00:40:39] mystery of

[00:40:40] iniquity or

[00:40:41] the

[00:40:41] Antichrist.

[00:40:42] So plain.

[00:40:44] Those who

[00:40:45] believe that

[00:40:46] Jesus came in

[00:40:47] the flesh,

[00:40:47] my brothers,

[00:40:49] my sisters,

[00:40:49] are of

[00:40:49] God.

[00:40:52] That's if we

[00:40:52] have a true

[00:40:53] belief.

[00:40:54] And those

[00:40:55] that believe

[00:40:55] that Jesus

[00:40:57] is not

[00:40:58] come in

[00:40:59] the flesh,

[00:40:59] that is

[00:41:01] the spirit

[00:41:01] of Antichrist.

[00:41:05] And in

[00:41:05] case

[00:41:07] John did

[00:41:09] not bring

[00:41:09] his point

[00:41:10] home clearly

[00:41:10] enough, he

[00:41:11] repeated it

[00:41:12] in his

[00:41:12] second epistle.

[00:41:14] Verse 7.

[00:41:15] 2 John

[00:41:15] verse 7.

[00:41:17] For many

[00:41:19] deceivers are

[00:41:20] entered into

[00:41:20] the world

[00:41:21] who confess

[00:41:21] not that

[00:41:22] Jesus Christ

[00:41:23] is come in

[00:41:24] the flesh.

[00:41:25] This is

[00:41:26] a deceiver

[00:41:27] and an

[00:41:29] Antichrist.

[00:41:32] It's so

[00:41:33] plain.

[00:41:34] It's so

[00:41:35] clear.

[00:41:36] Here is

[00:41:37] the center

[00:41:37] of the

[00:41:38] mystery of

[00:41:38] iniquity.

[00:41:39] Mystery of

[00:41:40] godliness.

[00:41:41] God was

[00:41:42] manifest in

[00:41:43] the flesh.

[00:41:44] Mystery of

[00:41:45] iniquity.

[00:41:46] God was

[00:41:47] not manifest

[00:41:47] in the flesh.

[00:41:49] The spirit

[00:41:49] of Antichrist.

[00:41:52] And I

[00:41:53] believe that

[00:41:54] never before

[00:41:55] in

[00:41:56] Protestantism

[00:41:58] has the

[00:41:59] spirit of

[00:41:59] Antichrist

[00:42:00] been more

[00:42:02] to be found

[00:42:03] amongst us.

[00:42:04] This is

[00:42:05] a key

[00:42:06] issue.

[00:42:07] Let us

[00:42:08] not be

[00:42:09] disturbed

[00:42:10] by this

[00:42:10] fact.

[00:42:10] The reason

[00:42:11] that I am

[00:42:12] bringing it

[00:42:12] here this

[00:42:13] morning,

[00:42:14] I'm bringing

[00:42:15] it back

[00:42:15] again because

[00:42:16] I know

[00:42:16] each one

[00:42:17] of us

[00:42:18] has a

[00:42:19] knowledge

[00:42:20] of the

[00:42:21] human

[00:42:21] nature of

[00:42:22] Christ

[00:42:22] is because

[00:42:22] I want

[00:42:23] to emphasize

[00:42:24] and reemphasize

[00:42:26] that this

[00:42:26] is a

[00:42:27] key

[00:42:28] doctrine

[00:42:29] of God's

[00:42:29] church.

[00:42:30] Oh,

[00:42:31] I hope

[00:42:31] each one

[00:42:32] of you

[00:42:32] has obtained

[00:42:33] Dr.

[00:42:34] Ralph

[00:42:34] Larson's

[00:42:35] book.

[00:42:37] What an

[00:42:38] important book

[00:42:39] that is.

[00:42:40] It shows

[00:42:41] beyond dispute

[00:42:42] that Seventh-day

[00:42:43] Adventists for

[00:42:43] a whole

[00:42:43] century

[00:42:44] believed the

[00:42:48] plain words

[00:42:48] of Scripture

[00:42:49] that Jesus

[00:42:49] came in

[00:42:50] the flesh.

[00:42:51] There was

[00:42:52] no

[00:42:52] bastion

[00:42:53] greater

[00:42:54] against the

[00:42:55] inroads

[00:42:55] of the

[00:42:57] Antichrist

[00:42:58] than the

[00:42:59] belief that

[00:43:00] Jesus

[00:43:01] came in

[00:43:02] the flesh.

[00:43:06] But today,

[00:43:10] virtually no,

[00:43:13] virtually no

[00:43:16] Protestant

[00:43:17] church upholds

[00:43:18] that faith.

[00:43:19] And there are

[00:43:21] many amongst

[00:43:21] us who have

[00:43:23] adopted the

[00:43:24] spirit of

[00:43:25] Antichrist

[00:43:26] by accepting

[00:43:28] that Jesus

[00:43:29] did not

[00:43:29] take your

[00:43:30] nature and

[00:43:31] mine.

[00:43:35] There is

[00:43:36] no other

[00:43:37] head of the

[00:43:37] church but

[00:43:39] the Lord

[00:43:39] Jesus Christ.

[00:43:41] Never can

[00:43:42] the Pope of

[00:43:43] Rome in

[00:43:44] any sense

[00:43:45] be head

[00:43:46] thereof,

[00:43:47] but is

[00:43:48] that Antichrist

[00:43:49] the man

[00:43:51] of sin

[00:43:51] and son

[00:43:53] of perdition

[00:43:53] that exalteth

[00:43:54] himself on

[00:43:56] the church

[00:43:56] against Christ.

[00:43:59] Pretty

[00:43:59] bigoted

[00:44:03] confrontational

[00:44:04] statement.

[00:44:05] Where was I

[00:44:06] reading,

[00:44:07] brothers and

[00:44:07] sisters?

[00:44:09] That's right.

[00:44:11] Where were

[00:44:12] they quoting?

[00:44:13] As our

[00:44:13] brother said,

[00:44:14] that's June

[00:44:15] 7 of the

[00:44:15] London Daily

[00:44:16] Telegraph,

[00:44:19] five days

[00:44:19] ago.

[00:44:21] And they

[00:44:22] were quoting

[00:44:22] from a

[00:44:24] wonderful

[00:44:25] statement of

[00:44:25] faith which

[00:44:26] was prepared

[00:44:26] in the year

[00:44:27] 1647 in

[00:44:29] this country.

[00:44:30] the Westminster

[00:44:31] Confession.

[00:44:34] But how

[00:44:34] many believe

[00:44:35] that today?

[00:44:36] And more

[00:44:37] so,

[00:44:37] how few

[00:44:38] understand it?

[00:44:40] It says

[00:44:41] here,

[00:44:41] Protestants to

[00:44:42] debate the

[00:44:42] Pope.

[00:44:43] And it

[00:44:44] says the

[00:44:44] prickly

[00:44:45] relations

[00:44:45] between

[00:44:46] Ireland's

[00:44:47] Roman

[00:44:47] Catholic

[00:44:47] and

[00:44:48] Presbyterian

[00:44:48] churches

[00:44:49] could take

[00:44:51] a turn

[00:44:51] for the

[00:44:52] better

[00:44:54] after Thursday

[00:44:56] when the

[00:44:56] Presbyterian

[00:44:57] General

[00:44:58] Assembly

[00:44:58] discusses

[00:44:59] whether the

[00:44:59] Pope

[00:45:00] should still

[00:45:00] be considered

[00:45:01] the

[00:45:01] Antichrist.

[00:45:03] I want to

[00:45:04] say that

[00:45:05] the system

[00:45:05] that the

[00:45:06] Pope heads

[00:45:07] on the

[00:45:08] plain Word

[00:45:09] of God

[00:45:09] is the

[00:45:09] Antichrist.

[00:45:11] And we

[00:45:12] as Seventh-day

[00:45:13] Adventists

[00:45:13] dare not

[00:45:14] dispute that

[00:45:15] fact.

[00:45:15] What these

[00:45:17] godly men

[00:45:18] of the

[00:45:19] 17th century

[00:45:20] declared to

[00:45:21] be true

[00:45:22] is just as

[00:45:23] true today

[00:45:24] as it was

[00:45:25] 350,

[00:45:26] 40 years

[00:45:27] ago when

[00:45:28] they declared

[00:45:29] it.

[00:45:29] There is

[00:45:30] no other

[00:45:31] head of

[00:45:31] the church

[00:45:32] but the

[00:45:33] Lord Jesus

[00:45:33] Christ.

[00:45:34] Never can

[00:45:35] the Pope

[00:45:35] of Rome

[00:45:36] in any

[00:45:37] sense be

[00:45:38] head

[00:45:38] thereof.

[00:45:40] But is

[00:45:41] that Antichrist

[00:45:42] that man

[00:45:42] of sin

[00:45:43] and son

[00:45:43] of perdition

[00:45:44] that exalteth

[00:45:45] himself on

[00:45:46] the church

[00:45:47] against Christ?

[00:45:47] How did

[00:45:48] the Pope

[00:45:49] exalt

[00:45:49] himself?

[00:45:54] Well,

[00:45:55] there are

[00:45:56] many ways.

[00:45:57] But there

[00:45:58] is one

[00:45:58] aspect which

[00:46:00] affronted

[00:46:00] God more

[00:46:01] than anything

[00:46:02] else.

[00:46:04] We find

[00:46:04] it of course

[00:46:05] in the

[00:46:05] book of

[00:46:05] Daniel

[00:46:06] chapter 8

[00:46:07] verse 11

[00:46:09] Daniel

[00:46:10] chapter 8

[00:46:11] and verse

[00:46:13] 11

[00:46:15] referring

[00:46:15] to of

[00:46:16] course the

[00:46:17] little horn

[00:46:18] power.

[00:46:24] Yea,

[00:46:25] he magnified

[00:46:27] himself even

[00:46:29] to the prince

[00:46:30] of the host

[00:46:31] and by him

[00:46:33] the daily

[00:46:34] sacrifice was

[00:46:35] taken away

[00:46:36] and the

[00:46:37] place of

[00:46:37] the sanctuary

[00:46:38] was cast

[00:46:39] down.

[00:46:41] It's no

[00:46:41] surprise is

[00:46:42] it that those

[00:46:43] in our midst

[00:46:44] who believe

[00:46:45] that Jesus

[00:46:46] took the

[00:46:46] nature of

[00:46:47] Adam before

[00:46:48] he fell,

[00:46:49] that is a

[00:46:49] nature different

[00:46:50] from ours,

[00:46:51] also cast

[00:46:52] down the

[00:46:52] place of

[00:46:52] the sanctuary.

[00:46:54] It's almost

[00:46:55] automatic that

[00:46:57] eventually those

[00:46:57] people will

[00:46:58] show no

[00:46:59] faith in the

[00:46:59] sanctuary message.

[00:47:00] And why

[00:47:01] should they?

[00:47:02] Because the

[00:47:02] two go hand

[00:47:03] in hand.

[00:47:04] The Seventh

[00:47:05] Day Adventist

[00:47:05] faith is a

[00:47:06] beautiful,

[00:47:07] if we can

[00:47:08] call it a

[00:47:08] jigsaw puzzle,

[00:47:09] you take away

[00:47:10] part of it

[00:47:11] and you've

[00:47:12] lost the

[00:47:13] totality.

[00:47:16] I'm not the

[00:47:17] least surprised

[00:47:18] that there

[00:47:18] have been

[00:47:19] vicious attacks

[00:47:20] upon the

[00:47:20] sanctuary

[00:47:21] message in

[00:47:22] the Seventh

[00:47:22] Day Adventist

[00:47:23] church.

[00:47:24] It had to

[00:47:24] be when men

[00:47:26] and women

[00:47:26] despise the

[00:47:28] fact that

[00:47:29] Jesus took

[00:47:30] our nature.

[00:47:31] There is no

[00:47:32] way in which

[00:47:32] they can truly

[00:47:33] believe in his

[00:47:34] mediatorial work.

[00:47:36] And we will

[00:47:37] see in a

[00:47:37] moment, be

[00:47:38] reminded that

[00:47:40] the mediatorial

[00:47:41] work of

[00:47:42] Christ is

[00:47:42] absolutely

[00:47:43] dependent upon

[00:47:45] him being

[00:47:45] made like

[00:47:46] unto us.

[00:47:48] Without it,

[00:47:49] he could

[00:47:50] never be our

[00:47:51] mediator, our

[00:47:51] high priest.

[00:47:54] And it would

[00:47:54] be inconsistent

[00:47:55] of us to

[00:47:57] believe that

[00:47:58] that was so.

[00:47:59] And we'll

[00:47:59] see that from

[00:47:59] the scripture.

[00:48:03] But you

[00:48:04] himself, this

[00:48:06] is what has

[00:48:07] affronted a

[00:48:07] pure and

[00:48:08] holy God.

[00:48:09] But the

[00:48:10] Antichrist, the

[00:48:12] man who

[00:48:12] brought in the

[00:48:13] mystery of

[00:48:15] iniquity, magnified

[00:48:18] himself even to

[00:48:20] the prince of

[00:48:21] the host, put

[00:48:22] himself in the

[00:48:22] place of

[00:48:23] Jesus himself.

[00:48:25] How?

[00:48:28] By him the

[00:48:29] daily sacrifice

[00:48:30] was taken

[00:48:31] away.

[00:48:31] the

[00:48:32] mediatorial

[00:48:33] work of

[00:48:34] Jesus was

[00:48:36] supplanted.

[00:48:38] A couple of

[00:48:39] years ago, I

[00:48:40] visited Rome

[00:48:43] and I was

[00:48:44] appalled to

[00:48:45] see the

[00:48:45] cues of men

[00:48:46] and women

[00:48:47] going into

[00:48:48] the confessional

[00:48:49] box.

[00:48:50] Notices there,

[00:48:51] I'm sure you've

[00:48:51] all seen them.

[00:48:53] This priest

[00:48:54] can hear

[00:48:55] confessions in

[00:48:56] English, this

[00:48:57] one in French,

[00:48:58] this one in

[00:48:59] German, Italian,

[00:49:00] whatever language

[00:49:01] perhaps you can

[00:49:01] think of.

[00:49:04] All my

[00:49:05] brothers and

[00:49:06] my sisters,

[00:49:07] what an

[00:49:07] affront to

[00:49:08] God.

[00:49:10] And yet,

[00:49:13] that

[00:49:13] mediatorial

[00:49:14] work which

[00:49:15] has been

[00:49:15] usurped by

[00:49:17] mere sinful

[00:49:18] degraded men

[00:49:21] has been

[00:49:22] usurped on

[00:49:23] the basis of

[00:49:23] the belief that

[00:49:24] Jesus did

[00:49:25] not take your

[00:49:25] nature and

[00:49:26] mine.

[00:49:27] Is it any

[00:49:28] wonder that

[00:49:29] God when

[00:49:29] he looked at

[00:49:30] Antichrist and

[00:49:31] tried to give

[00:49:31] one single

[00:49:32] characteristic,

[00:49:33] he said it's

[00:49:34] the belief

[00:49:35] that Christ

[00:49:36] did not

[00:49:36] come in

[00:49:36] the flesh.

[00:49:38] That is

[00:49:39] the belief

[00:49:39] because from

[00:49:40] that belief

[00:49:43] emanates the

[00:49:44] great affront

[00:49:45] to Jesus as

[00:49:46] our Lord and

[00:49:48] our mediator,

[00:49:49] our high

[00:49:49] priest.

[00:49:53] From the

[00:49:54] belief that

[00:49:55] Jesus did

[00:49:56] not come in

[00:49:56] the flesh

[00:49:57] comes the

[00:49:59] perverted and

[00:50:00] unscriptural

[00:50:01] doctrine of

[00:50:02] the immaculate

[00:50:03] conception.

[00:50:06] Infant

[00:50:06] baptism,

[00:50:09] predestination,

[00:50:11] eternal

[00:50:12] torment,

[00:50:14] and of

[00:50:15] course as

[00:50:16] we've just

[00:50:16] mentioned,

[00:50:17] the belief

[00:50:19] that we need

[00:50:19] a human

[00:50:20] mediator.

[00:50:22] And in all

[00:50:23] fairness to

[00:50:25] the Catholic

[00:50:25] Church, if we

[00:50:26] are to believe

[00:50:27] this error,

[00:50:29] they have every

[00:50:30] right to a

[00:50:31] human mediator.

[00:50:35] The inconsistency

[00:50:36] of Protestants

[00:50:37] today is that

[00:50:38] they believe

[00:50:38] what the

[00:50:39] Catholics believe

[00:50:40] on Jesus'

[00:50:41] nature and

[00:50:42] still think

[00:50:43] that they want

[00:50:44] to have Jesus

[00:50:44] as their

[00:50:45] mediator when

[00:50:46] he could not

[00:50:46] fulfil it if

[00:50:47] their belief

[00:50:48] was true.

[00:50:48] Let's go over

[00:50:49] to the book

[00:50:50] of Hebrews.

[00:50:52] You know

[00:50:53] these texts

[00:50:54] so well, but

[00:50:55] brethren and

[00:50:55] sisters, let's

[00:50:56] get them firmly

[00:50:57] in our minds

[00:50:58] and what they

[00:50:58] mean.

[00:50:59] Hebrews 2,

[00:51:04] Hebrews 2,

[00:51:12] and the

[00:51:12] 14th verse.

[00:51:15] And once

[00:51:16] again, those

[00:51:17] of you who

[00:51:18] have not got

[00:51:19] the King James

[00:51:19] version, I

[00:51:21] feel very

[00:51:21] sorry for your

[00:51:23] translation that

[00:51:24] you will be

[00:51:24] reading, for

[00:51:27] you will not

[00:51:28] find the

[00:51:28] truth there

[00:51:30] in that

[00:51:30] translation.

[00:51:33] For as

[00:51:34] much then as

[00:51:35] the children

[00:51:36] are partakers

[00:51:37] of flesh and

[00:51:38] blood, that's

[00:51:39] very clear,

[00:51:40] that's what

[00:51:40] you and I

[00:51:41] have partaken,

[00:51:42] he also

[00:51:44] himself likewise

[00:51:45] took part of

[00:51:47] the same, that

[00:51:58] through death

[00:51:59] he might destroy

[00:52:00] him that had

[00:52:01] the power of

[00:52:02] death, that is

[00:52:02] the devil, and

[00:52:03] deliver them who

[00:52:04] through fear of

[00:52:05] death were all

[00:52:07] their lifetime

[00:52:08] subject to

[00:52:09] bondage.

[00:52:10] For verily he

[00:52:12] took not on

[00:52:13] him the nature

[00:52:14] of angels.

[00:52:16] We're dealing

[00:52:17] now with Jesus

[00:52:18] nature.

[00:52:19] What a

[00:52:20] humiliation for

[00:52:22] the God of

[00:52:22] heaven to have

[00:52:23] taken on the

[00:52:23] nature of

[00:52:24] angels if he'd

[00:52:25] taken that.

[00:52:25] But he

[00:52:26] didn't, the

[00:52:26] Bible says.

[00:52:29] Paul tells us,

[00:52:31] but he took

[00:52:32] on him the

[00:52:33] seed of

[00:52:34] Abraham.

[00:52:37] I don't have

[00:52:38] to tell you

[00:52:39] what nature

[00:52:40] Abraham had,

[00:52:41] you know it,

[00:52:43] he had your

[00:52:44] nature and

[00:52:45] mine.

[00:52:46] God said.

[00:52:47] And Jesus

[00:52:48] that tells us

[00:52:49] in words that

[00:52:50] cannot be

[00:52:51] gainsaid, took

[00:52:53] on the

[00:52:54] seed of

[00:52:55] Abraham.

[00:52:58] And now

[00:52:58] listen to the

[00:52:59] 17th verse.

[00:53:00] wherefore in

[00:53:01] all things

[00:53:03] it behoved

[00:53:05] him to be

[00:53:05] made like

[00:53:06] unto his

[00:53:07] brethren.

[00:53:07] In all

[00:53:08] things it

[00:53:09] behaved him

[00:53:10] to be made

[00:53:11] like unto

[00:53:11] his brethren,

[00:53:12] that he

[00:53:13] might be a

[00:53:15] merciful and

[00:53:16] faithful high

[00:53:17] priest in

[00:53:18] things pertaining

[00:53:18] to God.

[00:53:19] You see,

[00:53:21] that was the

[00:53:23] condition upon

[00:53:24] which he could

[00:53:24] be a

[00:53:25] merciful high

[00:53:25] priest.

[00:53:27] that he

[00:53:28] was made

[00:53:28] like unto

[00:53:29] us in

[00:53:29] all things.

[00:53:33] Why?

[00:53:35] Well, it

[00:53:35] tells us in

[00:53:36] the last

[00:53:36] verse of

[00:53:37] that chapter,

[00:53:38] for in

[00:53:38] that he

[00:53:38] himself

[00:53:39] hath

[00:53:40] suffered

[00:53:41] being

[00:53:42] tempted,

[00:53:43] he is

[00:53:44] able to

[00:53:44] succor

[00:53:45] them that

[00:53:45] are

[00:53:45] tempted.

[00:53:46] I want

[00:53:47] to tell

[00:53:47] you that

[00:53:48] the Christ

[00:53:48] that the

[00:53:49] world

[00:53:50] worships

[00:53:50] today would

[00:53:52] not be

[00:53:53] able to

[00:53:53] succor

[00:53:54] them that

[00:53:54] are

[00:53:54] tempted.

[00:53:56] For he

[00:53:56] was not,

[00:53:57] if we

[00:53:58] are to

[00:53:58] understand

[00:53:59] their

[00:53:59] belief that

[00:54:00] Jesus did

[00:54:01] not take

[00:54:01] our nature,

[00:54:03] he is

[00:54:03] not able

[00:54:04] to succor

[00:54:07] those that

[00:54:08] are tempted

[00:54:08] for he

[00:54:08] was not

[00:54:09] tempted as

[00:54:09] we are.

[00:54:13] And

[00:54:13] therefore,

[00:54:14] it's only

[00:54:14] logical that

[00:54:16] the people

[00:54:16] lost faith in

[00:54:17] Jesus as

[00:54:18] their

[00:54:18] mediator.

[00:54:19] When the

[00:54:20] priests started

[00:54:21] to preach

[00:54:21] this horrible

[00:54:22] doctrine,

[00:54:23] this doctrine

[00:54:24] of Antichrist,

[00:54:25] the mystery

[00:54:26] of iniquity,

[00:54:28] how could

[00:54:29] they look to

[00:54:29] Jesus?

[00:54:30] He hadn't

[00:54:30] been through

[00:54:31] what they

[00:54:31] had been

[00:54:32] through.

[00:54:33] You see,

[00:54:34] Adam,

[00:54:34] before he

[00:54:35] fell,

[00:54:35] was not

[00:54:36] tempted like

[00:54:36] you and

[00:54:37] I are

[00:54:37] tempted.

[00:54:38] Make no

[00:54:38] mistake about

[00:54:39] that.

[00:54:40] Sure,

[00:54:40] he was

[00:54:41] tempted,

[00:54:41] but in a

[00:54:42] very different

[00:54:43] way from

[00:54:43] you and

[00:54:44] I.

[00:54:45] He was

[00:54:45] not

[00:54:46] tempted as

[00:54:46] we are.

[00:54:48] Yes,

[00:54:49] Jesus could

[00:54:49] have said,

[00:54:50] well,

[00:54:50] Adam and

[00:54:51] Eve had no

[00:54:51] excuse for

[00:54:52] their sin,

[00:54:53] if he'd have

[00:54:54] come with the

[00:54:55] pre-fall

[00:54:55] nature,

[00:54:56] but he couldn't

[00:54:57] have said that

[00:54:57] Russell,

[00:54:58] Roll and

[00:54:58] Standish had

[00:54:59] no excuse

[00:55:01] for sin.

[00:55:02] Couldn't have

[00:55:03] said that

[00:55:05] because Jesus

[00:55:06] would have had

[00:55:07] an advantage

[00:55:08] and so the

[00:55:08] people lost

[00:55:09] faith in

[00:55:09] Jesus as

[00:55:10] their mediator

[00:55:11] and it was

[00:55:12] only natural

[00:55:12] that they

[00:55:13] then turned

[00:55:14] to people

[00:55:14] who had

[00:55:16] been tempted

[00:55:16] as they

[00:55:17] were,

[00:55:18] the so-called

[00:55:18] saints and

[00:55:21] the priests.

[00:55:22] if there's

[00:55:23] one thing

[00:55:23] certain,

[00:55:24] they were

[00:55:24] tempted like

[00:55:25] the ordinary

[00:55:25] folk.

[00:55:27] And so

[00:55:27] they had

[00:55:28] faith that

[00:55:28] these people

[00:55:29] were able to

[00:55:29] succor them

[00:55:30] when they

[00:55:30] were tempted.

[00:55:31] And so

[00:55:32] came this

[00:55:33] mystery of

[00:55:34] iniquity into

[00:55:34] God's church

[00:55:35] where men

[00:55:37] and women,

[00:55:40] men and

[00:55:41] women started

[00:55:42] to look to

[00:55:43] humans to

[00:55:45] be their

[00:55:46] mediator

[00:55:48] with the

[00:55:48] great God

[00:55:49] of heaven.

[00:55:50] Oh,

[00:55:51] brothers and

[00:55:51] sisters,

[00:55:53] it's logical

[00:55:54] if we

[00:55:55] accept the

[00:55:56] iniquitous

[00:55:57] premise upon

[00:55:58] which it

[00:55:59] is based.

[00:56:02] And so

[00:56:03] God,

[00:56:04] as he looks

[00:56:04] at the

[00:56:04] kernel,

[00:56:05] the basis

[00:56:06] of the

[00:56:07] mystery of

[00:56:07] iniquity,

[00:56:08] he says,

[00:56:09] that is

[00:56:10] the doctrine

[00:56:10] that Jesus

[00:56:12] did not

[00:56:13] come in

[00:56:15] the flesh.

[00:56:16] And from

[00:56:17] that has

[00:56:17] come much

[00:56:19] of the

[00:56:19] great evil

[00:56:20] that we

[00:56:20] see in

[00:56:21] Catholicism

[00:56:22] today.

[00:56:23] And sadly,

[00:56:25] our

[00:56:25] Protestant

[00:56:26] brothers and

[00:56:27] sisters are

[00:56:28] accepting the

[00:56:29] mystery of

[00:56:30] iniquity.

[00:56:31] Is it any

[00:56:33] wonder that

[00:56:34] very soon

[00:56:35] many of

[00:56:36] these are

[00:56:38] hoping to

[00:56:38] become part

[00:56:39] of Rome

[00:56:40] again?

[00:56:41] You see,

[00:56:43] they have

[00:56:43] accepted the

[00:56:44] kernel of

[00:56:45] their error.

[00:56:46] And in

[00:56:47] accepting that,

[00:56:48] there will be

[00:56:48] no division.

[00:56:49] I was interested

[00:56:49] when I was

[00:56:50] reading concerning

[00:56:51] the Anglican

[00:56:52] Church and

[00:56:53] its desire

[00:56:54] for unity

[00:56:56] with the

[00:56:56] Roman Catholic

[00:56:57] Church.

[00:56:58] Tragic.

[00:57:00] But of

[00:57:01] course,

[00:57:01] in accepting

[00:57:01] this spirit

[00:57:02] of Antichrist,

[00:57:04] they have

[00:57:05] left themselves

[00:57:06] wide open,

[00:57:07] wide open,

[00:57:09] to accept

[00:57:12] Catholicism

[00:57:13] once more.

[00:57:14] And you

[00:57:15] know it

[00:57:15] was interesting

[00:57:15] that their

[00:57:17] differences,

[00:57:19] the few little

[00:57:20] differences that

[00:57:20] they still saw

[00:57:21] between the

[00:57:22] Anglican Church

[00:57:22] and the

[00:57:23] Catholic Church,

[00:57:24] there was no

[00:57:25] mention of

[00:57:25] confession to

[00:57:29] priests.

[00:57:31] That was not a

[00:57:32] hindrance,

[00:57:33] according to the

[00:57:34] leaders of the

[00:57:35] state church of

[00:57:36] this country.

[00:57:39] There were just a

[00:57:40] few little

[00:57:41] technicalities like

[00:57:42] whether women

[00:57:43] could be

[00:57:44] ordained,

[00:57:46] or whether

[00:57:47] the priests

[00:57:48] that had

[00:57:48] already been

[00:57:49] ordained as

[00:57:49] Anglican

[00:57:50] priests needed

[00:57:50] a reordination

[00:57:51] to become

[00:57:52] Catholic priests,

[00:57:53] or whether

[00:57:53] the Catholics

[00:57:54] would accept

[00:57:55] their original

[00:57:56] ordination.

[00:57:59] Those sort

[00:58:00] of technicalities

[00:58:03] somewhat related

[00:58:04] to pride,

[00:58:05] I would think,

[00:58:06] were the

[00:58:07] issues which

[00:58:08] were said to

[00:58:09] be holding

[00:58:09] up the union

[00:58:10] of the two,

[00:58:12] but not that

[00:58:13] which is the

[00:58:13] matter which

[00:58:15] God looked

[00:58:16] down and

[00:58:17] said was the

[00:58:19] spirit of

[00:58:19] Antichrist.

[00:58:21] And I want

[00:58:22] to say,

[00:58:23] brothers and

[00:58:23] sisters,

[00:58:25] that this

[00:58:26] spirit of

[00:58:26] Antichrist,

[00:58:28] and I'm very

[00:58:29] concerned about

[00:58:29] this, is coming

[00:58:30] into our

[00:58:31] church.

[00:58:32] It is.

[00:58:36] And I dare

[00:58:37] to say it

[00:58:38] very openly.

[00:58:39] I don't think

[00:58:40] there's any

[00:58:41] point in

[00:58:41] missing words

[00:58:42] about it.

[00:58:43] It will have

[00:58:44] the same

[00:58:44] devastating effect

[00:58:45] upon the

[00:58:46] Seventh-day

[00:58:46] Adventist

[00:58:47] church,

[00:58:48] and those

[00:58:49] believers as

[00:58:50] it has on

[00:58:50] any other

[00:58:50] church.

[00:58:51] Error is

[00:58:52] never benign.

[00:58:54] Error always

[00:58:56] leads to the

[00:58:58] perversion of

[00:58:58] truth and to

[00:58:59] apostasy.

[00:59:01] And there

[00:59:02] is no greater

[00:59:03] source for

[00:59:04] apostasy than

[00:59:07] the belief that

[00:59:08] Jesus did not

[00:59:09] come in the

[00:59:09] flesh.

[00:59:12] Romans chapter

[00:59:14] three, verse

[00:59:14] one.

[00:59:18] Romans chapter

[00:59:19] three, verse

[00:59:19] one.

[00:59:25] Sorry, chapter

[00:59:26] one, verse

[00:59:26] three.

[00:59:28] Concerning his

[00:59:29] son, Jesus

[00:59:30] Christ our

[00:59:31] Lord, which

[00:59:33] was made of

[00:59:34] the seed of

[00:59:35] David, according

[00:59:37] to the flesh.

[00:59:42] One would have

[00:59:43] to be blind,

[00:59:44] brethren and

[00:59:45] sisters, to

[00:59:48] not understand

[00:59:49] that Jesus

[00:59:50] came with your

[00:59:51] nature and

[00:59:51] mine.

[00:59:52] Scripture

[00:59:52] declares it in

[00:59:54] unequivocal terms.

[00:59:55] Never once can

[00:59:56] you find any

[00:59:57] statement in

[00:59:57] Scripture which

[01:00:00] states that Jesus

[01:00:01] came with an

[01:00:03] unfallen nature.

[01:00:05] Never once.

[01:00:08] Hebrews 4.15.

[01:00:12] Hebrews chapter

[01:00:13] four and verse

[01:00:14] 15.

[01:00:22] For we have

[01:00:23] not an high

[01:00:24] priest which

[01:00:25] cannot be touched

[01:00:26] with the feelings

[01:00:27] of our infirmities,

[01:00:28] but was in all

[01:00:29] points tempted

[01:00:31] like as we are,

[01:00:33] yet without

[01:00:34] sin.

[01:00:37] I hear some

[01:00:38] people saying

[01:00:38] that that means

[01:00:39] he was tempted

[01:00:40] in every way

[01:00:41] that we are

[01:00:42] sin accepted.

[01:00:44] My friends,

[01:00:45] I'd love to

[01:00:46] live a life

[01:00:47] where I was

[01:00:48] tempted in

[01:00:48] every way

[01:00:49] except to

[01:00:49] sin.

[01:00:52] I think I

[01:00:54] could be a

[01:00:55] pretty sinless

[01:00:55] person in

[01:00:56] those circumstances.

[01:00:59] You know,

[01:01:00] there's no end

[01:01:02] to the foolishness

[01:01:03] of men when

[01:01:03] they try to

[01:01:04] pervert the

[01:01:05] plainest words

[01:01:06] of God's

[01:01:06] Scripture.

[01:01:08] That is the

[01:01:09] foolishness of

[01:01:10] the world.

[01:01:11] This text

[01:01:12] means what it

[01:01:13] says.

[01:01:13] He was tempted

[01:01:14] in all points

[01:01:15] like as we are,

[01:01:15] yet he did

[01:01:16] not ever once

[01:01:18] yield a sin.

[01:01:20] All he

[01:01:21] had a pure

[01:01:22] and perfect

[01:01:22] character,

[01:01:24] despite having

[01:01:25] a fallen

[01:01:26] nature.

[01:01:27] And this

[01:01:28] is the great

[01:01:29] promise that

[01:01:30] God has given

[01:01:31] to us,

[01:01:32] to each one

[01:01:33] of us.

[01:01:33] I'm sure you

[01:01:34] know the text

[01:01:35] in Romans

[01:01:36] chapter 8

[01:01:37] and verse 3.

[01:01:38] Romans

[01:01:39] chapter 8

[01:01:40] and verse 3.

[01:01:41] that text

[01:01:46] which was

[01:01:49] used

[01:01:50] so powerfully

[01:01:51] by our

[01:01:52] early

[01:01:52] Adventist

[01:01:53] leaders.

[01:01:55] For what

[01:01:56] the law

[01:01:56] could not

[01:01:57] do

[01:01:58] in that

[01:01:58] it was

[01:01:59] weak

[01:01:59] through the

[01:02:00] flesh,

[01:02:00] God

[01:02:01] sending

[01:02:02] his own

[01:02:02] son in

[01:02:03] the likeness

[01:02:04] of sinful

[01:02:05] flesh,

[01:02:06] and for

[01:02:07] sin

[01:02:07] condemned

[01:02:07] sin

[01:02:08] in the

[01:02:08] flesh.

[01:02:09] A lot

[01:02:10] of people

[01:02:10] would like

[01:02:10] to tell

[01:02:11] us that

[01:02:11] when it

[01:02:11] says he

[01:02:12] came

[01:02:12] in the

[01:02:13] likeness

[01:02:13] of sinful

[01:02:14] flesh,

[01:02:14] it meant

[01:02:14] that he

[01:02:15] came with

[01:02:16] sinless

[01:02:17] flesh.

[01:02:18] You see,

[01:02:18] once again,

[01:02:19] the very

[01:02:19] opposite from

[01:02:20] what the

[01:02:21] scripture is

[01:02:21] saying.

[01:02:23] If the

[01:02:24] Bible wanted

[01:02:25] us to

[01:02:25] understand

[01:02:26] that he

[01:02:26] came in

[01:02:26] sinless

[01:02:27] flesh,

[01:02:27] it would

[01:02:28] have been

[01:02:28] perfectly

[01:02:29] capable

[01:02:29] of saying

[01:02:30] so,

[01:02:30] but it

[01:02:31] never

[01:02:31] does.

[01:02:32] He

[01:02:32] came

[01:02:33] in the

[01:02:34] likeness

[01:02:36] of

[01:02:36] sinful

[01:02:37] flesh.

[01:02:41] You know,

[01:02:41] when I

[01:02:42] look for

[01:02:43] a proof

[01:02:43] text,

[01:02:45] the one

[01:02:45] thing that

[01:02:46] I like

[01:02:47] is

[01:02:48] where

[01:02:48] the two

[01:02:49] positions

[01:02:50] that are

[01:02:50] in

[01:02:50] opposition

[01:02:51] are

[01:02:51] mentioned.

[01:02:53] And one

[01:02:54] is said

[01:02:55] to be

[01:02:55] error,

[01:02:56] and the

[01:02:57] other is

[01:02:57] declared

[01:02:57] to be

[01:02:58] truth.

[01:02:58] You

[01:02:58] can't

[01:02:58] have

[01:02:59] anything

[01:02:59] safer

[01:02:59] than

[01:03:00] that.

[01:03:01] It

[01:03:01] leaves

[01:03:01] nothing

[01:03:02] to the

[01:03:02] imagination.

[01:03:03] Is that

[01:03:03] correct?

[01:03:04] When the

[01:03:05] two

[01:03:05] positions

[01:03:05] are

[01:03:06] addressed,

[01:03:07] are

[01:03:07] presented,

[01:03:09] and one

[01:03:10] is said

[01:03:11] to be

[01:03:11] error,

[01:03:11] and the

[01:03:12] other is

[01:03:13] said to

[01:03:13] be

[01:03:13] precious

[01:03:13] truth.

[01:03:14] That is

[01:03:15] the

[01:03:16] proof

[01:03:16] text

[01:03:16] par

[01:03:17] excellence.

[01:03:18] It's

[01:03:18] no wonder

[01:03:19] that some

[01:03:19] people today

[01:03:20] sneer at

[01:03:21] proof texting.

[01:03:22] I notice

[01:03:22] that Jesus

[01:03:22] used that

[01:03:23] method very

[01:03:24] often.

[01:03:27] Let us

[01:03:28] remind

[01:03:29] ourselves

[01:03:30] again of

[01:03:31] those two

[01:03:31] great

[01:03:32] passages

[01:03:32] in

[01:03:33] Desire

[01:03:33] of Ages.

[01:03:37] Page

[01:03:38] 49.

[01:03:40] First

[01:03:41] of all,

[01:03:42] Sister

[01:03:42] White

[01:03:42] addresses

[01:03:44] the

[01:03:45] sinless

[01:03:46] nature

[01:03:46] concept

[01:03:47] and

[01:03:48] tells

[01:03:48] us

[01:03:49] it

[01:03:49] was

[01:03:49] false.

[01:03:50] Then

[01:03:51] she

[01:03:51] goes

[01:03:51] on

[01:03:52] and

[01:03:52] tells

[01:03:52] us

[01:03:53] that

[01:03:54] the

[01:03:56] nature

[01:03:56] of

[01:03:57] Jesus,

[01:03:58] that

[01:03:58] Jesus

[01:03:59] had

[01:03:59] your

[01:03:59] nature

[01:03:59] and

[01:04:00] mine

[01:04:00] was

[01:04:01] the

[01:04:01] true

[01:04:01] nature.

[01:04:03] It

[01:04:03] would

[01:04:03] have

[01:04:04] been

[01:04:04] an

[01:04:04] almost

[01:04:05] infinite

[01:04:06] humiliation,

[01:04:07] desire

[01:04:07] of Ages

[01:04:08] 49,

[01:04:09] for the

[01:04:10] Son of

[01:04:10] God

[01:04:10] to take

[01:04:11] man's

[01:04:12] nature

[01:04:12] even

[01:04:13] when

[01:04:14] Adam

[01:04:15] stood

[01:04:15] in

[01:04:16] his

[01:04:16] innocence

[01:04:17] in

[01:04:17] Eden.

[01:04:17] So

[01:04:18] there

[01:04:18] it

[01:04:18] is,

[01:04:19] it's

[01:04:19] addressing

[01:04:19] the

[01:04:20] pre-fall

[01:04:20] nature.

[01:04:21] Cannot

[01:04:22] be any

[01:04:22] doubt,

[01:04:22] this is

[01:04:23] written

[01:04:23] in

[01:04:24] clear

[01:04:24] unequivocal

[01:04:25] terms.

[01:04:26] I

[01:04:26] read it

[01:04:27] again.

[01:04:27] It

[01:04:27] would

[01:04:28] have

[01:04:28] been

[01:04:28] an

[01:04:28] almost

[01:04:29] infinite

[01:04:30] humiliation

[01:04:30] for

[01:04:31] the

[01:04:31] Son of

[01:04:32] God

[01:04:32] to

[01:04:32] take

[01:04:32] man's

[01:04:33] nature

[01:04:33] even

[01:04:34] when

[01:04:35] Adam

[01:04:35] stood

[01:04:35] in

[01:04:36] his

[01:04:36] innocence

[01:04:36] in

[01:04:37] Eden.

[01:04:38] But

[01:04:38] Jesus

[01:04:39] accepted

[01:04:40] humanity

[01:04:41] when

[01:04:42] the

[01:04:42] race

[01:04:43] had

[01:04:43] been

[01:04:44] weakened

[01:04:44] by

[01:04:44] 4,000

[01:04:46] years

[01:04:46] of

[01:04:46] sin.

[01:04:47] You

[01:04:47] see,

[01:04:48] there

[01:04:48] is

[01:04:48] the

[01:04:48] contrast.

[01:04:50] Clearly

[01:04:51] looking at

[01:04:52] the

[01:04:52] first,

[01:04:53] dismissing

[01:04:54] it,

[01:04:55] and then

[01:04:55] saying,

[01:04:56] but he

[01:04:56] took

[01:04:58] humanity

[01:04:59] when

[01:05:00] the race

[01:05:00] had been

[01:05:01] weakened

[01:05:01] by

[01:05:02] 4,000

[01:05:03] years

[01:05:03] of

[01:05:03] sin.

[01:05:04] Like

[01:05:04] every

[01:05:05] child

[01:05:05] of

[01:05:06] Adam,

[01:05:06] he

[01:05:07] accepted

[01:05:08] the

[01:05:14] sin.

[01:05:17] He

[01:05:18] came

[01:05:18] with

[01:05:18] such

[01:05:19] a

[01:05:19] heredity

[01:05:19] to

[01:05:20] share

[01:05:20] our

[01:05:20] sorrows

[01:05:21] and

[01:05:21] temptations

[01:05:22] and

[01:05:22] to

[01:05:22] give

[01:05:22] us

[01:05:22] the

[01:05:22] example

[01:05:23] of

[01:05:23] a

[01:05:24] sinless

[01:05:24] life.

[01:05:25] I

[01:05:26] want

[01:05:26] to

[01:05:26] say,

[01:05:26] if

[01:05:26] Jesus

[01:05:27] did

[01:05:27] not

[01:05:27] come

[01:05:28] in

[01:05:28] that

[01:05:28] nature,

[01:05:29] he

[01:05:29] could

[01:05:29] never

[01:05:29] have

[01:05:30] given

[01:05:30] you

[01:05:30] and

[01:05:31] me

[01:05:31] an

[01:05:32] example

[01:05:32] of

[01:05:32] a

[01:05:32] sinless

[01:05:33] life.

[01:05:33] He

[01:05:33] would

[01:05:34] have

[01:05:34] only

[01:05:34] given

[01:05:34] Adam

[01:05:34] and

[01:05:35] Eve

[01:05:35] before

[01:05:36] they

[01:05:36] fell

[01:05:36] an

[01:05:37] example

[01:05:37] of

[01:05:38] a

[01:05:38] sinless

[01:05:38] life.

[01:05:38] But

[01:05:38] he

[01:05:39] would

[01:05:39] never

[01:05:39] have

[01:05:39] given

[01:05:39] Russell

[01:05:40] Standish

[01:05:41] an

[01:05:42] example.

[01:05:42] It's

[01:05:43] so

[01:05:43] plain

[01:05:43] that

[01:05:44] nobody

[01:05:45] who

[01:05:46] is

[01:05:46] rightly

[01:05:47] looking

[01:05:47] at

[01:05:47] truth

[01:05:48] could

[01:05:48] possibly

[01:05:49] be

[01:05:49] deceived.

[01:05:50] There

[01:05:50] are

[01:05:50] the

[01:05:51] two

[01:05:51] positions.

[01:05:51] Sister

[01:05:52] White

[01:05:52] contrast

[01:05:53] them

[01:05:54] and

[01:05:54] tells

[01:05:54] us

[01:05:54] which

[01:05:55] one

[01:05:55] is

[01:05:55] correct.

[01:05:57] Desire

[01:05:57] of

[01:05:57] ages

[01:05:58] 117

[01:05:59] is

[01:05:59] even

[01:05:59] clearer

[01:05:59] if

[01:06:00] that

[01:06:00] is

[01:06:01] possible.

[01:06:01] When

[01:06:02] Adam

[01:06:02] was

[01:06:02] assailed

[01:06:03] by

[01:06:03] the

[01:06:03] tempter

[01:06:04] none

[01:06:05] of

[01:06:05] the

[01:06:05] effects

[01:06:06] of

[01:06:06] sin

[01:06:06] were

[01:06:06] upon

[01:06:07] him.

[01:06:07] He

[01:06:08] stored

[01:06:09] in

[01:06:09] the

[01:06:09] strength

[01:06:10] of

[01:06:10] perfect

[01:06:10] manhood

[01:06:11] possessing

[01:06:12] the

[01:06:12] full

[01:06:12] vigour

[01:06:13] of

[01:06:13] mind

[01:06:13] and

[01:06:13] body.

[01:06:14] He

[01:06:14] was

[01:06:15] surrounded

[01:06:15] with

[01:06:16] the

[01:06:16] glories

[01:06:16] of

[01:06:16] Eden

[01:06:17] and

[01:06:17] was

[01:06:17] in

[01:06:17] daily

[01:06:18] communion

[01:06:18] with

[01:06:19] heavenly

[01:06:19] beings.

[01:06:20] It

[01:06:21] was

[01:06:21] not

[01:06:23] thus

[01:06:23] with

[01:06:24] Jesus

[01:06:24] when

[01:06:25] he

[01:06:25] entered

[01:06:25] the

[01:06:25] wilderness

[01:06:26] to

[01:06:26] cope

[01:06:26] with

[01:06:26] Satan.

[01:06:27] For

[01:06:28] 4,000

[01:06:29] years

[01:06:30] the

[01:06:30] race

[01:06:30] had

[01:06:31] been

[01:06:31] decreasing

[01:06:31] in

[01:06:32] physical

[01:06:33] strength

[01:06:33] in

[01:06:34] mental

[01:06:35] power

[01:06:35] and

[01:06:36] moral

[01:06:37] worth

[01:06:37] and

[01:06:38] Christ

[01:06:38] took

[01:06:39] upon

[01:06:39] him

[01:06:40] the

[01:06:40] informities

[01:06:41] of

[01:06:41] degenerate

[01:06:42] humanity.

[01:06:45] Only

[01:06:46] thus

[01:06:46] could he

[01:06:47] rescue

[01:06:47] man from

[01:06:48] the

[01:06:48] lowest

[01:06:48] depths

[01:06:49] of

[01:06:49] his

[01:06:49] degradation.

[01:06:50] Oh,

[01:06:51] what a

[01:06:51] saviour

[01:06:52] we have.

[01:06:52] You know,

[01:06:53] if a

[01:06:53] statement

[01:06:54] like that

[01:06:55] does not

[01:06:55] increase

[01:06:56] your love

[01:06:57] for

[01:06:57] Jesus,

[01:06:58] then you

[01:06:58] have a

[01:06:59] heart

[01:06:59] of stone.

[01:07:00] Oh,

[01:07:02] I cannot

[01:07:04] thank

[01:07:04] him

[01:07:04] enough.

[01:07:06] You see,

[01:07:07] it was

[01:07:07] only as

[01:07:08] he took

[01:07:08] my

[01:07:08] nature

[01:07:10] that

[01:07:10] he

[01:07:11] could

[01:07:11] rescue

[01:07:11] me

[01:07:12] from

[01:07:12] the

[01:07:12] lowest

[01:07:12] depths

[01:07:13] of

[01:07:13] my

[01:07:13] degradation.

[01:07:15] Don't

[01:07:16] you love

[01:07:16] him for

[01:07:17] that?

[01:07:18] Don't

[01:07:19] you love

[01:07:19] him?

[01:07:21] You know,

[01:07:22] a person

[01:07:23] who believes

[01:07:23] that Jesus

[01:07:24] came with

[01:07:25] the nature

[01:07:26] before the

[01:07:26] fall,

[01:07:27] often they

[01:07:28] talk about

[01:07:28] love,

[01:07:29] love,

[01:07:29] love,

[01:07:29] love,

[01:07:29] love.

[01:07:30] They

[01:07:30] cannot

[01:07:31] love,

[01:07:31] Jesus.

[01:07:32] Impossible.

[01:07:34] Because it's

[01:07:34] only as

[01:07:35] we understand

[01:07:37] that Jesus

[01:07:38] came to

[01:07:40] rescue us

[01:07:41] from the

[01:07:41] depth of

[01:07:42] our terrible

[01:07:43] degradation.

[01:07:46] And he

[01:07:47] did that

[01:07:47] by taking

[01:07:48] our degraded

[01:07:49] nature,

[01:07:50] that our

[01:07:51] heart can

[01:07:52] be truly

[01:07:53] full of

[01:07:53] love for

[01:07:54] him.

[01:07:55] And I

[01:07:55] pray,

[01:07:56] brethren and

[01:07:56] sisters,

[01:07:57] that even

[01:07:59] now,

[01:08:00] there are

[01:08:01] some silent

[01:08:02] prayers

[01:08:02] ascending

[01:08:03] of thanks

[01:08:04] and gratitude

[01:08:05] to Jesus.

[01:08:06] Now,

[01:08:07] Jesus'

[01:08:08] life was

[01:08:09] just as

[01:08:09] important as

[01:08:10] his death

[01:08:11] for your

[01:08:11] redemption

[01:08:12] and mine.

[01:08:15] Isn't that

[01:08:16] right?

[01:08:17] When it

[01:08:18] says that

[01:08:18] only thus

[01:08:19] could he

[01:08:20] rescue man

[01:08:21] from the

[01:08:21] lowest depths

[01:08:22] of his

[01:08:22] degradation,

[01:08:23] a lot of

[01:08:24] people say,

[01:08:24] well,

[01:08:25] what do you

[01:08:25] mean by a

[01:08:26] fallen nature?

[01:08:27] Well,

[01:08:27] I mean what

[01:08:28] Sister White

[01:08:28] says here,

[01:08:30] that he had

[01:08:31] decreased

[01:08:31] physical strength,

[01:08:32] mental power,

[01:08:33] and moral

[01:08:33] worth.

[01:08:35] That's what

[01:08:36] I mean.

[01:08:37] I'm not

[01:08:38] going to

[01:08:38] tell you

[01:08:39] something that

[01:08:39] I cannot

[01:08:40] give you a

[01:08:41] plain,

[01:08:41] thus saith the

[01:08:42] Lord.

[01:08:43] You know,

[01:08:43] I find that

[01:08:44] there are

[01:08:44] lots of

[01:08:45] people who

[01:08:45] say,

[01:08:45] oh,

[01:08:46] yes,

[01:08:46] he did

[01:08:46] have a

[01:08:47] fallen

[01:08:49] physical

[01:08:49] nature.

[01:08:50] They have

[01:08:51] to say

[01:08:51] that.

[01:08:53] Otherwise,

[01:08:54] why would

[01:08:54] Jesus have

[01:08:55] collapsed

[01:08:56] under the

[01:08:56] cross?

[01:08:57] That wasn't

[01:08:58] the divine

[01:08:59] nature that

[01:08:59] collapsed

[01:09:00] under the

[01:09:00] cross.

[01:09:01] that would

[01:09:02] have been

[01:09:02] less than

[01:09:03] just a

[01:09:03] hair to

[01:09:06] divinity.

[01:09:08] Everyone

[01:09:09] knows that

[01:09:10] he had a

[01:09:10] fallen

[01:09:10] physical

[01:09:11] nature.

[01:09:12] But they

[01:09:12] say the

[01:09:13] rest of

[01:09:14] his nature

[01:09:14] was

[01:09:15] unfallen.

[01:09:16] Brethren and

[01:09:17] sisters,

[01:09:17] we got back

[01:09:18] to the

[01:09:19] perverted

[01:09:19] pagan

[01:09:20] views of

[01:09:20] the

[01:09:20] Greek

[01:09:21] where they

[01:09:21] had a

[01:09:21] separation

[01:09:22] of the

[01:09:23] body and

[01:09:23] the soul.

[01:09:25] I want

[01:09:25] to tell

[01:09:26] you that's

[01:09:26] what it

[01:09:26] leads to.

[01:09:27] It leads

[01:09:28] to that

[01:09:29] dichotomy.

[01:09:30] Where the

[01:09:31] physical body

[01:09:33] is quite

[01:09:34] separate.

[01:09:34] We as

[01:09:35] Seventh-day

[01:09:35] Adventists would

[01:09:36] not have had

[01:09:36] a health

[01:09:36] reform message

[01:09:37] if we

[01:09:38] believed that

[01:09:39] line of

[01:09:40] argument.

[01:09:42] If Christ

[01:09:43] had a

[01:09:45] fallen

[01:09:45] physical

[01:09:46] nature,

[01:09:46] he had

[01:09:47] a fallen

[01:09:47] nature

[01:09:48] full stop.

[01:09:49] There's

[01:09:50] no

[01:09:50] dichotomy

[01:09:52] between

[01:09:52] the soul

[01:09:53] and the

[01:09:53] body in

[01:09:54] scripture.

[01:09:56] Manuscript

[01:09:57] 1,

[01:09:58] 1892.

[01:09:59] I was

[01:10:00] so impressed

[01:10:00] with this

[01:10:01] manuscript

[01:10:01] that when

[01:10:02] I was

[01:10:02] in the

[01:10:03] white

[01:10:03] estate in

[01:10:04] Washington,

[01:10:04] I asked

[01:10:05] to actually

[01:10:06] see it

[01:10:06] myself.

[01:10:07] I knew

[01:10:08] that it

[01:10:08] was one

[01:10:08] that was

[01:10:09] written in

[01:10:09] my dear

[01:10:10] old

[01:10:10] homeland,

[01:10:12] for the

[01:10:12] date tells

[01:10:13] me that,

[01:10:16] and I

[01:10:16] found that

[01:10:17] it was a

[01:10:17] sermon that

[01:10:18] Sister White

[01:10:18] preached.

[01:10:19] I don't

[01:10:19] know where,

[01:10:21] but the

[01:10:22] statement

[01:10:22] there is

[01:10:25] so strong.

[01:10:26] the only

[01:10:29] begotten

[01:10:30] son came

[01:10:32] to the

[01:10:32] world to

[01:10:35] demonstrate

[01:10:36] that man

[01:10:37] could keep

[01:10:38] the law

[01:10:39] of God.

[01:10:40] I want

[01:10:41] to say

[01:10:41] if he

[01:10:42] had come

[01:10:43] to the

[01:10:44] world

[01:10:46] as

[01:10:48] you and

[01:10:48] I,

[01:10:50] as Adam

[01:10:51] I should

[01:10:52] say,

[01:10:52] he could

[01:10:52] not have

[01:10:53] demonstrated

[01:10:53] that I

[01:10:54] could keep

[01:10:54] the law

[01:10:54] of God.

[01:10:55] He

[01:10:56] couldn't

[01:10:56] have

[01:10:56] done

[01:10:56] that.

[01:10:58] Again,

[01:10:59] I emphasize

[01:11:00] because I

[01:11:00] want to

[01:11:01] make this

[01:11:01] point,

[01:11:02] all he

[01:11:02] would have

[01:11:02] shown is

[01:11:03] that Adam

[01:11:03] and Eve

[01:11:04] had no

[01:11:04] excuse

[01:11:05] for their

[01:11:05] sin.

[01:11:05] He

[01:11:06] would

[01:11:06] have

[01:11:06] demonstrated

[01:11:07] that.

[01:11:07] But he

[01:11:08] wouldn't

[01:11:08] demonstrate

[01:11:09] that you

[01:11:09] and I

[01:11:10] with our

[01:11:10] fallen

[01:11:10] natures

[01:11:11] had no

[01:11:11] excuse.

[01:11:12] We

[01:11:12] would

[01:11:12] have

[01:11:12] had

[01:11:12] every

[01:11:13] excuse

[01:11:14] for

[01:11:14] our

[01:11:14] sin.

[01:11:15] And yet

[01:11:15] Sister White

[01:11:16] says that

[01:11:16] the only

[01:11:17] begotten

[01:11:17] son of God

[01:11:18] came to

[01:11:18] our world

[01:11:19] to demonstrate

[01:11:20] that man

[01:11:21] could keep

[01:11:21] the law

[01:11:22] of God.

[01:11:23] But the

[01:11:23] most important

[01:11:24] part is

[01:11:25] the second

[01:11:27] sentence.

[01:11:28] Satan,

[01:11:29] the fallen

[01:11:30] angel,

[01:11:31] had declared

[01:11:32] that no

[01:11:33] man could

[01:11:35] keep the

[01:11:36] law of God

[01:11:37] after the

[01:11:39] disobedience

[01:11:40] of Adam.

[01:11:41] Now if

[01:11:41] Jesus had

[01:11:42] come with

[01:11:42] a nature

[01:11:43] before,

[01:11:44] how could

[01:11:45] he have

[01:11:45] demonstrated

[01:11:46] that no

[01:11:46] man could

[01:11:47] keep the

[01:11:47] law or

[01:11:48] the falsity

[01:11:48] of the

[01:11:49] statement

[01:11:49] that no

[01:11:49] man could

[01:11:50] keep the

[01:11:50] law after

[01:11:51] the fall

[01:11:52] of Adam.

[01:11:52] You see

[01:11:53] the devil

[01:11:54] had said

[01:11:54] that's

[01:11:55] alright

[01:11:56] for people

[01:11:57] with unfallen

[01:11:58] natures to

[01:11:58] keep the

[01:11:59] law of God.

[01:12:00] He could

[01:12:00] hardly dispute

[01:12:01] that fact.

[01:12:02] Two thirds

[01:12:02] of the

[01:12:02] angels

[01:12:03] have proven

[01:12:03] if you've

[01:12:04] got an

[01:12:04] unfallen

[01:12:04] nature

[01:12:05] and the

[01:12:06] beings

[01:12:06] on all

[01:12:07] the other

[01:12:07] worlds

[01:12:07] have demonstrated

[01:12:08] that fact

[01:12:09] beyond

[01:12:09] dispute.

[01:12:11] But what

[01:12:12] about us?

[01:12:13] We're

[01:12:13] different from

[01:12:14] the rest

[01:12:14] of the

[01:12:15] universe.

[01:12:15] We

[01:12:16] have

[01:12:16] fallen

[01:12:16] natures.

[01:12:17] And Jesus

[01:12:18] said I

[01:12:18] still want

[01:12:19] you to

[01:12:20] obey.

[01:12:21] And the

[01:12:21] devil said

[01:12:22] Christ is

[01:12:24] asking an

[01:12:25] impossibility.

[01:12:26] Oh how I

[01:12:27] fear when

[01:12:28] men stand at

[01:12:29] the sacred

[01:12:30] desk and

[01:12:30] repeat that

[01:12:31] which the

[01:12:32] devil has

[01:12:32] stated.

[01:12:34] Devil's

[01:12:34] accusation

[01:12:35] against God

[01:12:36] it's a

[01:12:37] fearful thing.

[01:12:38] Oh brethren

[01:12:39] and sisters

[01:12:40] it is

[01:12:40] fearful

[01:12:42] to do

[01:12:42] that.

[01:12:43] No wonder

[01:12:43] it's described

[01:12:44] as the

[01:12:44] spirit of

[01:12:45] antichrist.

[01:12:45] It is

[01:12:46] a

[01:12:46] travesty

[01:12:47] of the

[01:12:48] truth

[01:12:48] of

[01:12:48] Jesus.

[01:12:52] People

[01:12:53] come and

[01:12:53] in

[01:12:54] conclusion

[01:12:54] I'll

[01:12:54] just

[01:12:55] mention

[01:12:55] a

[01:12:55] couple

[01:12:55] of

[01:12:56] the

[01:12:57] objections

[01:12:57] which

[01:12:58] are

[01:12:58] laid.

[01:13:00] While I

[01:13:01] was in

[01:13:01] Hong Kong

[01:13:01] one of the

[01:13:02] brothers there

[01:13:02] said well

[01:13:03] look we

[01:13:03] just had a

[01:13:04] professor from

[01:13:06] the seminary

[01:13:07] and he

[01:13:08] took up

[01:13:08] the matter

[01:13:09] of the

[01:13:09] nature of

[01:13:09] Christ.

[01:13:10] He

[01:13:11] said how

[01:13:11] do you

[01:13:11] answer

[01:13:11] this?

[01:13:13] He

[01:13:13] put up

[01:13:14] two lists

[01:13:15] on the

[01:13:16] board.

[01:13:16] He

[01:13:17] said this

[01:13:17] is where

[01:13:17] Sister

[01:13:18] White

[01:13:19] seems as

[01:13:19] if she's

[01:13:20] saying Jesus

[01:13:20] had a

[01:13:21] pre-fall

[01:13:22] nature.

[01:13:23] This is

[01:13:23] the list

[01:13:23] where she

[01:13:24] said that

[01:13:25] he had a

[01:13:25] post-fall

[01:13:26] nature.

[01:13:27] Oh what

[01:13:28] sort of a

[01:13:28] faith would

[01:13:29] that be?

[01:13:30] How would

[01:13:31] you like it

[01:13:32] if our faith

[01:13:33] was based

[01:13:33] upon well

[01:13:34] you can

[01:13:34] take your

[01:13:35] pick.

[01:13:35] Some of

[01:13:36] the texts

[01:13:36] say one

[01:13:37] thing.

[01:13:37] Some of

[01:13:38] the texts

[01:13:38] say the

[01:13:38] other.

[01:13:41] Some of

[01:13:41] the texts

[01:13:42] say he

[01:13:43] wasn't

[01:13:43] saying

[01:13:43] this.

[01:13:44] But how

[01:13:44] would you

[01:13:45] feel about

[01:13:46] the Sabbath

[01:13:46] if you

[01:13:47] had texts

[01:13:47] that said

[01:13:48] Sabbath and

[01:13:49] texts that

[01:13:49] said no

[01:13:50] Sabbath Sunday

[01:13:52] and you

[01:13:53] just say well

[01:13:54] I'll take

[01:13:54] my pick.

[01:13:55] I don't

[01:13:55] know which

[01:13:55] one I

[01:13:56] like best

[01:13:56] I'll take.

[01:13:58] Is that

[01:13:58] the way

[01:13:58] God has

[01:13:59] presented

[01:14:00] his truth?

[01:14:01] You know

[01:14:01] I liked

[01:14:02] old pastor

[01:14:03] J.W.

[01:14:04] Kent

[01:14:05] bless him.

[01:14:06] He used

[01:14:06] to say

[01:14:07] I probably

[01:14:08] told you

[01:14:08] this before

[01:14:09] but I

[01:14:09] can't help

[01:14:10] remembering

[01:14:11] it.

[01:14:11] He said

[01:14:12] truth is

[01:14:12] like the

[01:14:13] handle on

[01:14:13] a cup.

[01:14:14] It's all

[01:14:15] on one

[01:14:16] side.

[01:14:17] And I

[01:14:17] want to

[01:14:17] say there

[01:14:18] aren't two

[01:14:18] lists in

[01:14:19] the spirit

[01:14:19] of prophecy.

[01:14:21] There's

[01:14:21] one list.

[01:14:23] There's

[01:14:23] one list.

[01:14:24] And then

[01:14:25] blank.

[01:14:27] That's what

[01:14:28] it is.

[01:14:28] And I

[01:14:29] said to

[01:14:30] this man

[01:14:30] I can

[01:14:31] show you

[01:14:32] passage

[01:14:33] after passage

[01:14:34] after passage

[01:14:35] after passage

[01:14:36] of the spirit

[01:14:37] of prophecy

[01:14:37] that said

[01:14:38] that Christ

[01:14:38] had a

[01:14:38] fallen

[01:14:39] nature.

[01:14:40] Occasionally

[01:14:40] a sinful

[01:14:41] nature.

[01:14:41] I can

[01:14:42] show you

[01:14:42] that.

[01:14:43] Now

[01:14:43] show me

[01:14:43] one where

[01:14:45] Sister

[01:14:45] White says

[01:14:45] he had

[01:14:46] an unfallen

[01:14:46] nature or

[01:14:47] a sinless

[01:14:48] nature.

[01:14:49] Oh he

[01:14:50] said they

[01:14:52] weren't the

[01:14:52] sort of

[01:14:53] text that he

[01:14:53] put up.

[01:14:53] I want to

[01:14:54] tell you

[01:14:54] they weren't

[01:14:55] because they

[01:14:55] don't exist.

[01:14:57] On one

[01:14:57] side we

[01:14:58] have all

[01:14:59] these passages

[01:14:59] of the spirit

[01:15:00] of prophecy

[01:15:00] saying that

[01:15:02] Christ had

[01:15:03] a fallen

[01:15:03] nature.

[01:15:04] nature.

[01:15:05] And never

[01:15:05] once

[01:15:08] do we

[01:15:08] find a

[01:15:09] statement that

[01:15:09] he had an

[01:15:10] unfallen

[01:15:10] nature.

[01:15:12] So what

[01:15:12] do they

[01:15:12] do?

[01:15:13] Well of

[01:15:14] course what

[01:15:14] they do

[01:15:16] is that

[01:15:16] they take

[01:15:17] statements

[01:15:18] that have

[01:15:18] got nothing

[01:15:18] to do with

[01:15:19] Jesus'

[01:15:19] nature and

[01:15:21] expect you

[01:15:22] to do a

[01:15:23] mental contortion

[01:15:25] and turn

[01:15:25] them into

[01:15:26] nature.

[01:15:27] You know

[01:15:27] the commonest

[01:15:28] one.

[01:15:28] I'll just

[01:15:28] give you

[01:15:28] this as

[01:15:29] one

[01:15:29] illustration.

[01:15:30] The commonest

[01:15:31] one of

[01:15:31] course is

[01:15:33] five

[01:15:34] bible

[01:15:34] commentary

[01:15:35] 1128.

[01:15:36] You all

[01:15:36] know it.

[01:15:37] Do not

[01:15:38] set him

[01:15:39] that's

[01:15:39] Jesus

[01:15:39] before the

[01:15:40] people as

[01:15:40] a man

[01:15:41] with the

[01:15:41] propensities

[01:15:42] of sin.

[01:15:42] I want to

[01:15:43] tell you

[01:15:44] brothers and

[01:15:44] sisters

[01:15:44] that's talking

[01:15:45] about

[01:15:46] propensities

[01:15:47] of sin.

[01:15:48] And men

[01:15:49] and women

[01:15:49] say well

[01:15:51] you've got to

[01:15:51] imagine that

[01:15:52] that means

[01:15:53] his nature.

[01:15:54] It doesn't

[01:15:55] say nature.

[01:15:55] It says

[01:15:56] propensities

[01:15:56] of sin.

[01:15:58] And the

[01:15:58] people say oh

[01:15:59] but I'm full

[01:16:00] of propensities

[01:16:00] of sin.

[01:16:02] Oh yes

[01:16:02] so he must

[01:16:03] have been

[01:16:04] different from

[01:16:04] me.

[01:16:06] Are you

[01:16:06] full of

[01:16:07] propensities?

[01:16:07] I pray

[01:16:08] you're not

[01:16:08] brothers and

[01:16:09] sisters.

[01:16:10] I find a lot

[01:16:11] of people

[01:16:12] think that

[01:16:12] when they

[01:16:12] get tempted

[01:16:13] that's a

[01:16:14] propensity

[01:16:14] to sin.

[01:16:15] Well if

[01:16:15] that's what

[01:16:16] a propensity

[01:16:16] to sin

[01:16:17] was,

[01:16:17] Jesus was

[01:16:17] full of

[01:16:18] propensities

[01:16:18] to sin.

[01:16:19] He was

[01:16:19] tempted

[01:16:20] a hundred

[01:16:20] fold more

[01:16:21] than any

[01:16:21] of us

[01:16:22] will ever

[01:16:22] be tempted.

[01:16:23] What shallow

[01:16:24] thinking

[01:16:24] brothers and

[01:16:25] sisters.

[01:16:25] when are

[01:16:26] we going

[01:16:26] to think

[01:16:27] with clarity

[01:16:28] of mind

[01:16:29] under the

[01:16:30] power of

[01:16:31] the Holy

[01:16:31] Spirit?

[01:16:32] When are

[01:16:32] we?

[01:16:33] If being

[01:16:34] tempted means

[01:16:35] that we

[01:16:35] have propensities

[01:16:36] to sin

[01:16:36] then Jesus

[01:16:37] was tempted

[01:16:38] a hundred

[01:16:38] fold.

[01:16:39] But this

[01:16:40] says he

[01:16:40] had no

[01:16:41] propensities

[01:16:41] to sin.

[01:16:42] So it

[01:16:42] cannot

[01:16:43] possibly refer

[01:16:44] to those

[01:16:45] temptations

[01:16:45] that keep

[01:16:46] coming to

[01:16:46] you and

[01:16:47] to me.

[01:16:51] And it

[01:16:52] doesn't

[01:16:53] mention.

[01:16:53] But that

[01:16:54] was one

[01:16:55] that this

[01:16:55] professor

[01:16:56] put on

[01:16:56] the board.

[01:16:57] This was

[01:16:58] one.

[01:16:59] But he

[01:17:00] wasn't

[01:17:00] fair-minded

[01:17:02] enough to

[01:17:03] place the

[01:17:04] statement from

[01:17:04] Seventh

[01:17:05] Bible

[01:17:05] Commentary

[01:17:06] page 953

[01:17:08] which says

[01:17:09] we, we

[01:17:10] with weak

[01:17:11] fallen human

[01:17:12] natures

[01:17:12] need

[01:17:14] retain

[01:17:14] need not

[01:17:16] retain

[01:17:16] one

[01:17:17] sinful

[01:17:18] propensity.

[01:17:19] Oh

[01:17:20] brothers and

[01:17:20] sisters when

[01:17:21] we see

[01:17:21] what propensity

[01:17:23] means

[01:17:23] we can

[01:17:26] understand

[01:17:26] that this

[01:17:27] has nothing

[01:17:28] to do with

[01:17:28] nature.

[01:17:29] It's to do

[01:17:29] with character.

[01:17:31] Oh yes

[01:17:32] Christ did

[01:17:33] not have

[01:17:33] a perverted

[01:17:35] character and

[01:17:35] neither does

[01:17:36] a born again

[01:17:37] Christian.

[01:17:39] Let us

[01:17:40] never forget

[01:17:40] it.

[01:17:41] Sister

[01:17:41] White

[01:17:41] gives us

[01:17:42] a definition

[01:17:42] of propensities

[01:17:43] do you want

[01:17:43] to know

[01:17:44] what it

[01:17:44] really

[01:17:44] means?

[01:17:45] You're

[01:17:46] being asked

[01:17:47] in order

[01:17:47] to disbelieve

[01:17:48] the plain

[01:17:49] word of

[01:17:49] God

[01:17:50] to use

[01:17:51] the word

[01:17:52] propensity

[01:17:52] to mean

[01:17:53] nature.

[01:17:54] It doesn't

[01:17:54] say that.

[01:17:56] But so

[01:17:56] many Seventh

[01:17:57] Day Adventists

[01:17:58] I would

[01:17:58] dare say

[01:17:59] tens of

[01:18:00] thousands

[01:18:00] of Seventh

[01:18:01] Day Adventists

[01:18:01] have been

[01:18:02] shipwrecked

[01:18:02] on that

[01:18:03] one statement

[01:18:03] and those

[01:18:05] who bring

[01:18:06] it are

[01:18:07] not fair-minded

[01:18:08] enough to

[01:18:09] show that

[01:18:10] people with

[01:18:11] fallen natures

[01:18:12] you and I

[01:18:13] not have

[01:18:13] one single

[01:18:14] propensity

[01:18:14] so that

[01:18:15] does not

[01:18:15] set Jesus

[01:18:16] nature

[01:18:16] separate from

[01:18:18] ours.

[01:18:19] But Sister

[01:18:19] White tells

[01:18:20] us what it

[01:18:21] means.

[01:18:21] Review and

[01:18:22] Herald

[01:18:22] May 16

[01:18:24] 1893

[01:18:25] Self-indulgence

[01:18:27] self-pleasing

[01:18:31] pride

[01:18:32] and extravagance

[01:18:34] must be

[01:18:37] renounced.

[01:18:38] We cannot

[01:18:39] be Christians

[01:18:40] and gratify

[01:18:41] these propensities.

[01:18:42] Can you see

[01:18:43] what propensities

[01:18:44] are?

[01:18:45] They're things

[01:18:46] like self-indulgence

[01:18:47] self-pleasing

[01:18:49] pride and

[01:18:50] extravagance.

[01:18:50] They're the

[01:18:51] examples that

[01:18:51] she gives.

[01:18:52] Well of course

[01:18:53] Jesus had none

[01:18:53] of those

[01:18:54] and neither

[01:18:56] does a man

[01:18:57] or a woman

[01:18:58] full of the

[01:18:59] Holy Spirit.

[01:19:00] And I use

[01:19:00] this as an

[01:19:01] illustration

[01:19:01] to show

[01:19:02] the deceitfulness

[01:19:04] of those who

[01:19:04] would put two

[01:19:05] lists.

[01:19:06] Brethren and

[01:19:07] sisters again

[01:19:08] I assert

[01:19:08] this one

[01:19:09] list and

[01:19:10] then blank.

[01:19:11] One list.

[01:19:13] And don't

[01:19:14] let us try

[01:19:15] to explain

[01:19:16] away the

[01:19:16] plain word

[01:19:17] of God by

[01:19:18] using equivocal

[01:19:20] statements.

[01:19:20] It's the very

[01:19:21] opposite of the

[01:19:22] Protestant method

[01:19:23] of understanding

[01:19:25] scripture which

[01:19:25] says that when

[01:19:26] you come to an

[01:19:26] equivocal statement

[01:19:27] you find clearer

[01:19:29] statements in

[01:19:31] order to

[01:19:31] explain those

[01:19:33] statements.

[01:19:34] We're going

[01:19:34] the other way.

[01:19:35] We're trying

[01:19:35] to do away

[01:19:36] with the

[01:19:37] plain statements

[01:19:37] by using

[01:19:38] equivocal

[01:19:39] statements to

[01:19:43] misunderstand

[01:19:43] them.

[01:19:44] Others say

[01:19:45] well the

[01:19:46] Bible says

[01:19:47] in Luke

[01:19:48] 1.35

[01:19:48] that Jesus

[01:19:49] was a

[01:19:50] holy thing.

[01:19:52] Brethren and

[01:19:52] sisters again

[01:19:53] that doesn't

[01:19:54] distinguish him

[01:19:55] from a born

[01:19:56] again Christian.

[01:19:57] Of course

[01:19:58] Jesus was

[01:19:59] never degenerate

[01:20:00] but neither

[01:20:01] is a born

[01:20:02] again Christian.

[01:20:03] Jesus didn't

[01:20:04] come here to

[01:20:05] show that a

[01:20:05] man who

[01:20:06] was unregenerate

[01:20:08] could keep

[01:20:09] the law of

[01:20:09] God.

[01:20:10] Didn't come

[01:20:10] to show that.

[01:20:11] He demonstrated

[01:20:12] that you and

[01:20:13] I when filled

[01:20:13] with the Holy

[01:20:14] Spirit can

[01:20:15] keep the

[01:20:16] law of

[01:20:16] God.

[01:20:17] Let's not

[01:20:17] be confused

[01:20:21] but what

[01:20:22] does the

[01:20:22] Bible describe

[01:20:23] in the last

[01:20:24] book of the

[01:20:24] Bible chapter

[01:20:25] 22 verse

[01:20:27] 11.

[01:20:27] What does

[01:20:27] it say?

[01:20:28] Let he

[01:20:29] that is

[01:20:29] holy

[01:20:31] be holy

[01:20:32] still.

[01:20:34] So the

[01:20:34] description of

[01:20:35] holiness doesn't

[01:20:36] set his

[01:20:37] nature

[01:20:38] apart from

[01:20:39] ours.

[01:20:41] Others have

[01:20:42] taken of

[01:20:42] course John

[01:20:43] 1430 and

[01:20:44] all you hear

[01:20:45] this so often

[01:20:46] perhaps we

[01:20:47] better look at

[01:20:47] it.

[01:20:48] This is the

[01:20:49] last example

[01:20:49] that I would

[01:20:50] bring before

[01:20:51] you.

[01:20:53] John I

[01:20:54] just bring

[01:20:54] these because

[01:20:55] I don't want

[01:20:55] to see anybody

[01:20:56] whose faith

[01:20:58] is wavered

[01:20:58] by these

[01:20:59] false use

[01:21:00] of scripture.

[01:21:02] John

[01:21:03] chapter 14

[01:21:05] and verse

[01:21:05] 30.

[01:21:12] That's the

[01:21:12] last part

[01:21:13] of that

[01:21:14] verse.

[01:21:14] I'll just

[01:21:15] read the

[01:21:15] last part.

[01:21:16] For the

[01:21:17] prince of

[01:21:17] this world

[01:21:18] cometh

[01:21:19] and hath

[01:21:20] nothing in

[01:21:21] me.

[01:21:22] I don't

[01:21:23] know how

[01:21:23] many people

[01:21:24] have used

[01:21:24] that text

[01:21:25] in order

[01:21:26] to say

[01:21:27] there you

[01:21:27] are.

[01:21:28] Jesus was

[01:21:28] different

[01:21:28] because when

[01:21:29] he comes

[01:21:29] to us

[01:21:30] he finds

[01:21:30] plenty in

[01:21:31] us.

[01:21:36] Well he

[01:21:37] does when

[01:21:37] we're

[01:21:38] unconverted.

[01:21:39] But we're

[01:21:40] talking not

[01:21:41] about unregenerate

[01:21:43] people we're

[01:21:44] talking about

[01:21:44] those who've

[01:21:45] given their

[01:21:46] lives to

[01:21:47] Jesus Christ.

[01:21:49] And what

[01:21:49] does it say

[01:21:50] in the

[01:21:51] book Desire

[01:21:52] of Ages

[01:21:53] 123?

[01:21:55] 123 Desire

[01:21:56] of Ages.

[01:22:02] It quotes

[01:22:03] the text

[01:22:03] The prince

[01:22:04] of the world

[01:22:05] cometh said

[01:22:06] Jesus and

[01:22:06] hath nothing

[01:22:07] in me.

[01:22:08] There was

[01:22:09] nothing in

[01:22:10] him that

[01:22:10] responded to

[01:22:13] Satan's

[01:22:13] sophistry.

[01:22:15] He did

[01:22:16] not consent

[01:22:17] to sin.

[01:22:18] It's very

[01:22:19] plain what

[01:22:19] it means.

[01:22:21] Not even

[01:22:23] by a

[01:22:23] thought did

[01:22:24] he yield

[01:22:24] to temptation.

[01:22:26] Now listen

[01:22:27] to this.

[01:22:28] So it

[01:22:30] may be

[01:22:31] with

[01:22:33] brethren.

[01:22:35] How can

[01:22:35] we use

[01:22:36] that text

[01:22:36] to distinguish

[01:22:37] Jesus'

[01:22:38] nature

[01:22:38] from our

[01:22:39] nature.

[01:22:40] So may

[01:22:41] it be

[01:22:42] with us

[01:22:44] that the

[01:22:44] devil may

[01:22:45] come to

[01:22:45] us and

[01:22:47] we find

[01:22:47] no response

[01:22:48] to his

[01:22:49] temptation.

[01:22:50] That is

[01:22:51] what God

[01:22:53] is bringing

[01:22:54] before us.

[01:22:54] We're going

[01:22:55] to be

[01:22:55] dealing

[01:22:55] this evening

[01:22:56] with temptation.

[01:22:57] A lot of

[01:22:58] our people

[01:22:58] today are

[01:23:00] still concerned

[01:23:01] about temptation.

[01:23:02] temptation.

[01:23:03] Oh I

[01:23:04] thank Jesus

[01:23:05] that there's

[01:23:07] only one

[01:23:08] thing that

[01:23:08] should concern

[01:23:09] us about

[01:23:09] temptation and

[01:23:10] that's yielding

[01:23:11] to it.

[01:23:12] We should be

[01:23:13] very concerned

[01:23:14] about that.

[01:23:17] But there's a

[01:23:18] great blessing

[01:23:18] being promised

[01:23:20] to those

[01:23:22] who do

[01:23:23] not yield

[01:23:24] to temptation.

[01:23:27] This is a

[01:23:28] crucial issue

[01:23:30] for today

[01:23:31] we find

[01:23:33] there are

[01:23:33] those in

[01:23:34] our midst

[01:23:34] and there

[01:23:35] may be

[01:23:35] some here

[01:23:36] and I

[01:23:36] pray that

[01:23:37] what we

[01:23:38] have said

[01:23:38] this morning

[01:23:39] has been

[01:23:40] helpful to

[01:23:40] you.

[01:23:41] Who have

[01:23:42] adopted this

[01:23:43] view that

[01:23:43] Jesus had

[01:23:44] the nature

[01:23:45] of Adam

[01:23:45] before he

[01:23:46] fell.

[01:23:47] Even though

[01:23:47] scripture never

[01:23:48] teaches it,

[01:23:49] the spirit of

[01:23:49] prophecy never

[01:23:50] teaches it,

[01:23:52] it's only

[01:23:53] our own

[01:23:53] sinful hearts

[01:23:54] that desire

[01:23:55] that idea.

[01:23:56] I want to

[01:23:56] say that.

[01:23:58] Because we

[01:23:59] want to have

[01:24:00] an excuse

[01:24:00] for sin

[01:24:01] brothers and

[01:24:02] sisters.

[01:24:03] Because leading

[01:24:04] on from that

[01:24:04] is the view

[01:24:05] that man

[01:24:07] cannot obey

[01:24:07] the law of

[01:24:08] God.

[01:24:08] And I want

[01:24:09] to challenge

[01:24:10] you, how

[01:24:10] can you go

[01:24:11] out and

[01:24:11] preach here

[01:24:12] is the

[01:24:12] patience of

[01:24:13] the saints,

[01:24:13] here are

[01:24:14] they that

[01:24:14] keep the

[01:24:15] commandments

[01:24:15] of God

[01:24:16] if you

[01:24:17] don't believe

[01:24:17] that that is

[01:24:18] possible.

[01:24:19] How can

[01:24:19] you preach

[01:24:20] the Sabbath

[01:24:20] if it's not

[01:24:21] possible to

[01:24:21] keep the

[01:24:22] Sabbath day

[01:24:22] holy?

[01:24:23] Why would

[01:24:24] you die

[01:24:25] for the

[01:24:25] Sabbath

[01:24:26] if it's

[01:24:29] an impossibility

[01:24:31] to keep

[01:24:32] that Sabbath?

[01:24:33] Oh brothers

[01:24:34] and sisters,

[01:24:35] we are being

[01:24:35] softened up

[01:24:36] as a people.

[01:24:37] I use that

[01:24:38] term advisedly

[01:24:40] so that

[01:24:41] when the

[01:24:42] great test

[01:24:43] comes,

[01:24:44] many of us

[01:24:45] will have

[01:24:45] adopted

[01:24:46] little by

[01:24:47] little

[01:24:47] the

[01:24:48] false

[01:24:49] evil

[01:24:49] philosophy

[01:24:50] of

[01:24:50] antichrist,

[01:24:51] the

[01:24:52] spirit

[01:24:52] of

[01:24:52] iniquity,

[01:24:53] the

[01:24:53] mystery

[01:24:53] of

[01:24:53] iniquity,

[01:24:54] so that

[01:24:56] when the

[01:24:57] great test

[01:24:57] comes we

[01:24:58] will find

[01:24:59] adequate

[01:25:00] excuse

[01:25:01] to show

[01:25:02] a lack

[01:25:02] of love

[01:25:03] for he

[01:25:03] who died

[01:25:04] for us.

[01:25:05] Again I

[01:25:06] remind you

[01:25:06] if ye

[01:25:07] love me

[01:25:08] keep my

[01:25:09] commands.

[01:25:11] The

[01:25:12] question

[01:25:12] that

[01:25:13] confronts

[01:25:13] each one

[01:25:14] of us

[01:25:14] at the

[01:25:15] conclusion

[01:25:15] of this

[01:25:16] very

[01:25:17] important

[01:25:18] service

[01:25:19] this

[01:25:19] morning

[01:25:19] is

[01:25:20] do we

[01:25:21] love

[01:25:21] Jesus

[01:25:22] or don't

[01:25:22] we?

[01:25:24] Do we

[01:25:25] love sin

[01:25:26] so much

[01:25:27] that we

[01:25:27] find every

[01:25:28] excuse

[01:25:28] we prepare

[01:25:30] to pervert

[01:25:30] scripture

[01:25:31] and the

[01:25:31] spirit of

[01:25:32] prophecy

[01:25:32] in order

[01:25:32] to

[01:25:33] subserve

[01:25:33] the

[01:25:34] purpose

[01:25:34] and to

[01:25:35] calm

[01:25:35] our

[01:25:37] consciences?

[01:25:39] Are we

[01:25:40] going to do

[01:25:40] that or are

[01:25:41] we going

[01:25:41] to say

[01:25:42] Lord

[01:25:42] you have

[01:25:43] spoken

[01:25:43] you've

[01:25:44] spoken

[01:25:45] with

[01:25:45] clarity

[01:25:46] with

[01:25:47] assuredness

[01:25:48] with

[01:25:49] certainty

[01:25:50] you've

[01:25:51] given us

[01:25:51] that hand

[01:25:52] on the

[01:25:52] cup

[01:25:52] presenting

[01:25:53] truth

[01:25:54] all on

[01:25:54] one

[01:25:54] side

[01:25:56] you've

[01:25:56] done

[01:25:57] that

[01:25:58] oh

[01:25:59] I pray

[01:25:59] with all

[01:26:00] my heart

[01:26:01] that there

[01:26:02] is not

[01:26:02] one here

[01:26:03] who is

[01:26:04] going to

[01:26:05] be misled

[01:26:06] by the

[01:26:07] sophistries

[01:26:07] of the

[01:26:08] devil

[01:26:09] for if

[01:26:10] we are

[01:26:11] that we

[01:26:12] can use

[01:26:13] the word

[01:26:13] love

[01:26:14] every second

[01:26:14] word

[01:26:15] but it's

[01:26:16] going to

[01:26:16] be empty

[01:26:17] and meaningless

[01:26:19] it's a

[01:26:20] sword of

[01:26:20] love

[01:26:20] that

[01:26:22] will

[01:26:23] be a

[01:26:24] counterfeit

[01:26:24] love

[01:26:25] and I

[01:26:25] want to

[01:26:25] say

[01:26:25] there are

[01:26:26] going to

[01:26:26] be lots

[01:26:26] of people

[01:26:27] who are

[01:26:28] going to

[01:26:28] be shocked

[01:26:28] to be

[01:26:29] out of

[01:26:30] the kingdom

[01:26:30] for they

[01:26:31] have felt

[01:26:31] that they

[01:26:31] love

[01:26:32] Jesus

[01:26:32] but it

[01:26:33] has been

[01:26:33] really

[01:26:34] self-love

[01:26:36] self-love

[01:26:38] counterfeit

[01:26:38] of the

[01:26:39] true love

[01:26:39] may God

[01:26:40] bless you

[01:26:41] and keep

[01:26:42] you true

[01:26:43] to him

[01:26:43] and true

[01:26:45] to the

[01:26:46] firm

[01:26:46] faith

[01:26:47] that God

[01:26:47] has

[01:26:48] delivered

[01:26:49] unto us

[01:26:49] God

[01:26:50] bless

[01:26:51] everyone

[01:26:51] here
