Presented By Pastor Russell Standish, recorded at the Gazeley Bible Fellowship meeting, England.
[00:00:02] Dear brothers and sisters, this is the final talk which I will be presenting at this wonderful weekend.
[00:00:14] And I would be quite remiss if I did not thank each one of you for the wonderful love and Christian care that you have shown to James and myself while we have been here.
[00:00:27] It has been very thrilling to me. One comes from thousands of miles away to find that Christian friends are to be found in every part of this globe.
[00:00:43] And I just thank God for those who are in this wonderful country of Britain.
[00:00:51] For most of my professional life it has been my profound privilege to be a missionary.
[00:01:03] Of course when I was a little lad, like most little boys in the Adventist faith, I had ideas that I wanted to be a missionary.
[00:01:14] But I'm sad to tell you that as I grew into adolescence and early adult life it had no attractions for me.
[00:01:24] But God in his great wisdom has given me that opportunity and I'm just so grateful that he has done so.
[00:01:35] The amount of tropical diseases that one has to treat is very little.
[00:01:39] We do see typhoid fever but of course with modern medications it's not the tragedy that it used to be.
[00:01:48] I've never yet seen anyone die of that disease.
[00:01:50] And yet of course in generations past it was a great killer.
[00:01:54] It's still a serious disease.
[00:01:57] But every patient of the hundreds that I have treated and that our hospital has treated, to my knowledge, has survived.
[00:02:06] But by and large we rarely see malaria there.
[00:02:09] They have marvellous malaria control.
[00:02:13] Smallpox of course has been eradicated.
[00:02:16] Once in a blue moon we would see cholera but very, very rarely.
[00:02:22] And so our practice of medicine is very, very similar to the practice here.
[00:02:27] And the demands that are put upon us has been quite a challenge to the Seventh-day Adventist medical work.
[00:02:36] But I want to tell you that we have a hospital in Penang of which our Seventh-day Adventist can be proud.
[00:02:43] We have the only open heart surgical unit outside of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
[00:02:50] There are three open heart surgical units there.
[00:02:55] And this has been a great success.
[00:02:58] And I want to tell you that our doctors are dedicated Seventh-day Adventist physicians of the highest calibre.
[00:03:06] Our cardiothoracic surgeon, our chief cardiothoracic surgeon is Dr. Alfred Poe.
[00:03:12] And I do want to have you understand that in our mission work there, that just because I'm the sort of person that happens to get away and you see me, I'm not the great missionary there.
[00:03:30] The great missionaries are our dedicated Seventh-day Adventists who are Malaysians.
[00:03:36] And I'm proud of that fact.
[00:03:39] Dr. Alfred Poe is an elder of our church.
[00:03:44] You know, when in the past, when in Britain people were trained in cardiothoracic surgery,
[00:03:52] the process was that the individual undertook to study for the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in general surgery.
[00:04:00] After they had obtained that, then they obtained experience in cardiothoracic surgery.
[00:04:07] And once they had sufficient experience, then they went forth into this subspecialty.
[00:04:13] But that has changed.
[00:04:14] A few years ago, it was decided to bring in subspecialty fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons.
[00:04:22] When that was initially brought in, in cardiothoracic surgery, there were only two candidates because the prerequisites were very high.
[00:04:31] First of all, of course, you must have the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in general surgery.
[00:04:38] That is a prerequisite.
[00:04:40] Then you have to have lots of training in the subspecialty.
[00:04:44] And then you can sit the exam.
[00:04:45] And there were only two candidates.
[00:04:48] And in good, proper British style, they failed both of them.
[00:04:51] It wouldn't have been a British exam if they'd have been generous.
[00:04:54] And so the poor candidates went away with their tails between their legs.
[00:05:00] The second time the examination was offered, there were four candidates.
[00:05:05] At this time, our Seventh-day Adventist Malaysian physician, Dr. Alfred Poey, was one of those four candidates.
[00:05:16] This time the examiners passed to and failed to, and I'm proud to say that one of the first two ever to receive the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons
[00:05:27] in the subspecialty of cardiothoracic surgery in this country was a Malaysian Seventh-day Adventist.
[00:05:38] Something to be proud of.
[00:05:41] And he is a very, very deaf surgeon.
[00:05:45] We only established our unit in December.
[00:05:49] It takes a lot of preparation.
[00:05:50] There's a lot of difference between doing ordinary surgery and the sort of surgery where you stop somebody's heart
[00:05:57] and you have to, of course, use artificial equipment to pump the blood and oxygenate the blood.
[00:06:05] We had to do a lot of training of personnel.
[00:06:08] And it was on the 20th of December that we had our first case.
[00:06:15] It was a young woman, lovely, a pretty Chinese girl, 21 years of age.
[00:06:22] She had rheumatic heart disease and needed a new valve in her heart.
[00:06:27] Quite tricky surgery.
[00:06:30] And I remember speaking with her.
[00:06:33] And I found that the reason that she had the operation, because her heart had become so damaged by the defective valve that she had that she was getting into trouble.
[00:06:44] She couldn't breathe.
[00:06:45] Her lungs were filling up with fluid.
[00:06:48] And I said, why are you having the operation?
[00:06:50] And she said, well, she said, I want to get married.
[00:06:53] I could understand that.
[00:06:55] It's a normal desire of this young woman.
[00:06:57] And she said, I know that if I got married, I could never have children in the condition that I'm in and I wouldn't live very long.
[00:07:04] I thought that was a very reasonable reason for having the operation.
[00:07:11] But you know, even in the greatest centres of the world, there's a not insignificant mortality rate, death rate from open heart surgery.
[00:07:22] Not everyone who is wheeled into the theatre eventually walks out of the hospital.
[00:07:29] And we understood that.
[00:07:32] And I want to say that we prayed, and we prayed very earnestly, not only with the patient, but in our worships.
[00:07:40] We upheld the physicians and the surgeons in their care of this girl.
[00:07:46] Would have been devastating to our open heart surgery program if she had died.
[00:07:52] But it was really thrilling to see the success of that operation.
[00:07:56] Brothers and sisters, there is a God in heaven.
[00:07:59] Let's make no mistake.
[00:08:01] And you know, in our hospitals, we have the great privilege of holding God's hands.
[00:08:07] We may have well-qualified people, but they're just people.
[00:08:12] They're just human beings.
[00:08:14] But how different when they have their hand in the hand of the divine.
[00:08:21] I anxiously went up to the intensive care unit at the conclusion of the operation.
[00:08:27] Of course, the patient was still on a respirator.
[00:08:29] But within a few hours, we were able to remove the respirator.
[00:08:35] She was breathing easily.
[00:08:37] And I'll never forget, it was only two days later, we were doing another operation on three days after the first,
[00:08:45] that she volunteered to go into the other patient's room, a 51-year-old lady this time, and say,
[00:08:53] look, hey, I only had the operation 48 hours ago and look how well I'm doing.
[00:08:58] Can you imagine what an encouragement that was to the nervous woman in the other room?
[00:09:02] To see someone who'd actually been through.
[00:09:05] The very first case that we'd done, you know, that takes a bit of courage.
[00:09:09] This second woman was, her daughter was married to an American Air Force major.
[00:09:18] And she was very apprehensive since she learnt that her mother was only going to be the second case that we had done in our hospital.
[00:09:26] You could understand that.
[00:09:28] But sometimes, you know, being first and second may be best.
[00:09:32] Everyone's on their toes in those circumstances.
[00:09:35] And of course, the staff had plenty of experience in other hospitals between them.
[00:09:41] And they were just so thrilled.
[00:09:43] I might say that this girl was walking around the corridor three days after her operation.
[00:09:49] It's just amazing how quickly these people recovered.
[00:09:53] And to date, we're doing one, two a week.
[00:09:59] To date, I want to tell you that every patient has walked out of our hospital alive.
[00:10:05] And I just thank God for that.
[00:10:07] And we have done children now down to little children with congenital heart disease.
[00:10:13] Not only with holes in their hearts, but with other abnormalities that made the surgery quite difficult and quite hazardous.
[00:10:22] But God has been present in that operating room.
[00:10:26] And I want you to continue to pray for our work there.
[00:10:30] We also have on our staff a...
[00:10:37] And some of you saw the video of some of the work that Dr. Danny O.
[00:10:43] He's our plastic surgeon.
[00:10:45] Another Malaysian.
[00:10:47] Danny was trained in the United States.
[00:10:51] And he is just absolutely brilliant on reconstructive surgery.
[00:10:56] I just mentioned one case.
[00:10:58] Some of you may want to see the video later and see some of the work that he was doing.
[00:11:04] But this man came in with a very big cancer here in the jaw.
[00:11:09] A very nasty place to have cancer.
[00:11:12] And a very extensive operation was necessary.
[00:11:16] Cutting almost to the lip.
[00:11:19] Taking all...
[00:11:20] A little more than half the jawbone.
[00:11:22] All this side and a little bit of this jawbone.
[00:11:26] Because the cancer had gone into the jawbone.
[00:11:30] Right down into the neck to get the lymph nodes.
[00:11:34] You can just imagine what's a mess.
[00:11:35] A great big hole here.
[00:11:37] What can you do with something like that?
[00:11:40] Well, I think most of us would throw up our hands in horror and despair.
[00:11:45] But I love what Danny did.
[00:11:49] What he did was that he took the patient's forearm.
[00:11:56] Fortunately, Chinese people don't have whiskers on their forearms like we do.
[00:12:00] And he took his forearm and he made a very big incision here.
[00:12:08] And took the skin.
[00:12:10] Not just the superficial part of the skin, but right down to the ligaments.
[00:12:14] Including the radial artery.
[00:12:15] That's the pulse artery that you can feel.
[00:12:18] And the catholic vein.
[00:12:21] Furthermore, he took 40% lengthwise of the radial bone here.
[00:12:26] The radius bone here.
[00:12:28] With its little blood vessel attachments.
[00:12:32] In order to form the new jawbone for this man.
[00:12:36] So he took this bone.
[00:12:38] All this skin.
[00:12:39] The artery.
[00:12:40] The vein.
[00:12:41] And then he made a new jawbone.
[00:12:46] He had to do a couple of osteotomies to get the right shape.
[00:12:49] Little bends in the bone.
[00:12:51] And this man was given a new jawbone.
[00:12:54] Made out of the bone from his arm.
[00:12:59] He then, under the microscope of course.
[00:13:03] United that artery to a branch of the carotid artery.
[00:13:08] And that vein to a branch of the jugular vein.
[00:13:11] So that there could be a blood supply.
[00:13:13] Otherwise it would have just died and sloughed off.
[00:13:16] And you know that really takes skill.
[00:13:18] And lots of patience to join those fine little arteries.
[00:13:22] With the finest of equipment that you can imagine.
[00:13:27] The most difficult part of course is the vein.
[00:13:29] Not the artery.
[00:13:30] The artery's got a high pressure.
[00:13:31] And so that keeps open.
[00:13:32] But the vein has got a low pressure.
[00:13:34] And if you're not careful you can flatten the vein.
[00:13:36] And get a big clot in the vein.
[00:13:38] And cause a lot of congestion in the area.
[00:13:40] So you have to be extremely careful with the vein.
[00:13:44] In such procedures.
[00:13:46] Well that was able to make the inside of the mouth.
[00:13:50] That's why I said it's a good job he didn't have hairs.
[00:13:52] It wouldn't be nice to have hairs on the inside of your mouth.
[00:13:55] How would it?
[00:13:57] And a little bit of the outside.
[00:13:59] But there was still a big gaping hole on the outside.
[00:14:02] Wasn't enough skin here to cover it all.
[00:14:04] And so he went down to the chest.
[00:14:07] The front of the chest.
[00:14:08] And took what we call a flap graft.
[00:14:10] So that the graft is still attached to the chest.
[00:14:13] So it has a blood supply.
[00:14:15] And then attached it here.
[00:14:16] In about three weeks of course the blood vessels grew into that piece of skin.
[00:14:23] And he was able to cut it off from the chest.
[00:14:25] And he looked reasonably.
[00:14:32] He wasn't an attractive looking man of course from the start.
[00:14:36] But furthermore they were able to get the dentist to make a very nice prosthesis.
[00:14:41] So that he could start to eat again.
[00:14:43] That's not easy when you've got an artificial jaw.
[00:14:46] To be able to put in a plate for him.
[00:14:50] But that was done.
[00:14:51] Of course Dr O had to go down to the thigh.
[00:14:55] And take a very thin graft on the thigh to cover here.
[00:14:57] Because it was so deep.
[00:14:59] You couldn't just leave it to scar up.
[00:15:01] That operation by the way took 14 hours.
[00:15:05] And you can understand it.
[00:15:06] With the great surgery.
[00:15:07] Just to do the surgery.
[00:15:09] Let alone it was much longer of course to do the repair after the surgery.
[00:15:13] And I'm just so proud that we have Danny O on our staff.
[00:15:19] He is a very fine Christian.
[00:15:22] And a very wonderful man.
[00:15:24] He's always at prayer meeting.
[00:15:27] At AY meeting.
[00:15:29] I just wish that all our professional people were as dedicated.
[00:15:33] In fact he just had a man baptised the other day.
[00:15:35] That he had been studying the Bible with.
[00:15:38] And he's studying with quite a lot of people.
[00:15:40] And I'm very thrilled that we've got those sort of homespun missionaries.
[00:15:46] If I can say that on our staff.
[00:15:48] Dr Ung Tatlo.
[00:15:49] Our urologist.
[00:15:51] Also he trained.
[00:15:52] Did his undergraduate training in the University of Adelaide.
[00:15:56] Then came over here.
[00:15:57] Did his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
[00:16:02] And then went into the subspecialty of urology.
[00:16:05] That's kidney and bladder surgery.
[00:16:09] And he's doing some very, very excellent work now.
[00:16:13] Back in our hospital.
[00:16:15] And our urology practice has really risen as a result.
[00:16:20] We also have doctors who have not yet specialised.
[00:16:25] On this film there's a little view of Dr Farm.
[00:16:29] Siao Leong.
[00:16:31] Remember that the Chinese of course very sensibly put their surnames first.
[00:16:37] I don't know why it's taken Europeans so long to understand that.
[00:16:41] Because when someone writes Farm Siao Leong.
[00:16:44] They always get a letter back from European.
[00:16:46] Dear Dr Leong.
[00:16:47] Instead of dear Dr Farm.
[00:16:50] And maybe we would have been more sensible.
[00:16:53] If we'd have put our surnames first.
[00:16:55] We tend to do it in other ways.
[00:16:58] Well Dr Farm has just graduated a couple of years ago.
[00:17:03] From the Christian Medical College in Valor in India.
[00:17:06] And I want to say that our graduates from there are of the highest order.
[00:17:10] They compare with anything.
[00:17:13] That we have in this country or in Australia.
[00:17:16] I was very interested to have one of our graduates.
[00:17:19] A young woman.
[00:17:20] Dr Ma.
[00:17:23] Come at the same time as two young graduates from London.
[00:17:30] Two English girls.
[00:17:31] One was an Oxford University graduate.
[00:17:34] I tell you.
[00:17:35] The girl from Valor was well ahead of one of those girls.
[00:17:39] And certainly if anything slightly ahead of a girl from Oxford.
[00:17:42] But at least her equal in knowledge.
[00:17:45] And I was really pleased to see the standard.
[00:17:48] That they have in that wonderful, wonderful university there.
[00:17:52] In the south of India.
[00:17:55] I've been there on a couple of occasions.
[00:17:57] And I know the quality of the work.
[00:18:00] But what I like about the students that we are getting from there.
[00:18:04] Is their dedication to this faith.
[00:18:06] You know those young Seventh-day Adventists.
[00:18:09] That we are sponsoring from Malaysia.
[00:18:10] Quite spontaneously.
[00:18:12] Decided that they were going to study the health message.
[00:18:15] From the spirit of prophecy.
[00:18:16] Each one of them.
[00:18:18] Is studying either.
[00:18:20] Councils on health.
[00:18:22] Ministry of healing or medical ministry.
[00:18:24] And then they'll go and.
[00:18:27] Circulate those around.
[00:18:29] And I get letters.
[00:18:30] I keep in great correspondence.
[00:18:32] With our students there.
[00:18:33] And I get letters from them.
[00:18:35] And said.
[00:18:36] Look I've just read this in the spirit of prophecy.
[00:18:38] Are you doing that in Penang?
[00:18:40] I tell you.
[00:18:41] It really puts me on the spot.
[00:18:42] And I have to write back sometimes.
[00:18:44] Very shamefacedly.
[00:18:46] And admit that we have to improve in that area.
[00:18:49] And I always say to these young people.
[00:18:52] Keep up that spirit.
[00:18:54] That's what we need.
[00:18:55] Men and women who want to do God's will.
[00:18:58] And demand to know.
[00:19:01] These people really know.
[00:19:03] And most of them are very alert.
[00:19:05] To what is happening in our church.
[00:19:08] Very alert.
[00:19:09] And very solid.
[00:19:11] For the truth of God.
[00:19:12] And for the message that you and I love.
[00:19:15] Dr. Farm I mentioned.
[00:19:17] He went to the government hospital.
[00:19:19] You have to do some government service there.
[00:19:22] And he was sent to the town of Kuantan.
[00:19:25] May not be a well-known town to you.
[00:19:27] It's the capital of one of the states of Malaysia.
[00:19:30] The state of Pahang.
[00:19:31] One.
[00:19:31] On the east coast.
[00:19:33] And there it is highly Islamic.
[00:19:35] There are very few Chinese or Indians on the east coast.
[00:19:38] The east coast is extremely concentrated.
[00:19:42] About 90% of Malay people.
[00:19:46] And we have a church there of about 10 members.
[00:19:50] That's how strong our Seventh-day Adventist church in Kuantan is.
[00:19:55] 10 dedicated members.
[00:19:56] It was my privilege to go over there and preach on one occasion.
[00:19:59] And I must say that I get a bigger thrill out of preaching to a handful of dedicated people.
[00:20:08] Standing against in a sea of opposition.
[00:20:12] Than I do in standing before thousands when many are not really standing for anything at all.
[00:20:20] It's a real thrill to speak to those people.
[00:20:23] But Dr. Farm realized that they needed help.
[00:20:27] And so he went to his supervisor.
[00:20:31] The consultant under which he was working.
[00:20:33] He was just an intern.
[00:20:35] And he said I want every Saturday off.
[00:20:39] Impossible.
[00:20:42] Well Dr. Farm said but I have.
[00:20:44] I've covenanted with God.
[00:20:47] That I will be a church every Sabbath.
[00:20:50] I'm a Seventh-day Adventist.
[00:20:51] I want to work.
[00:20:52] I'll do anything you like any other time.
[00:20:55] I'll do double work.
[00:20:57] Anything.
[00:20:58] The consultant was not impressed.
[00:21:03] And so he started by just taking every Sabbath off against his vacation.
[00:21:13] But of course he soon ran out of vacation after about 14 weeks.
[00:21:18] 14 weeks.
[00:21:20] All his vacation was used up.
[00:21:24] The other young interns could see that Farm was doing more work than they were.
[00:21:30] They were very thrilled to have him in their unit.
[00:21:33] And they said listen you keep going.
[00:21:34] This suits us very well.
[00:21:36] We don't mind working on Saturday.
[00:21:38] If you'll do all this extra work at other times.
[00:21:42] But not the consultant.
[00:21:44] But you know time and time again.
[00:21:46] This young man stood up and stood up until he went through a whole year.
[00:21:53] And never once did he miss his witness in church.
[00:21:57] And I just thank God for the Farm Sial Leong's of this world.
[00:22:04] Furthermore he was warned that he would not get his full registration.
[00:22:09] Because of this matter.
[00:22:13] And when the full registrations were eventually issued.
[00:22:17] Of all the interns in that hospital.
[00:22:19] He was the first one to receive it.
[00:22:21] He was not going to get it.
[00:22:22] And yet he was the first.
[00:22:23] There is a God in heaven.
[00:22:25] We've now got him on our staff.
[00:22:27] Another young woman.
[00:22:29] Dr. Peng Chu Yen.
[00:22:32] She's down in the hospital in Moore.
[00:22:36] In Johor.
[00:22:37] Down the south.
[00:22:39] And she adopted exactly the same attitude.
[00:22:42] Because our church in Moore had gone down.
[00:22:44] I tell you.
[00:22:45] She was devastated.
[00:22:46] Because she found that they were holding the church services.
[00:22:49] In the afternoon.
[00:22:51] Because some of the members had to work on Sabbath morning.
[00:22:54] So they had to hold it the afternoon.
[00:22:55] She said this should never be.
[00:22:57] Here's a young woman in her 20s.
[00:22:59] She said let us go back.
[00:23:01] To worshipping in the morning.
[00:23:04] Let us not uphold Sabbath breaking in this way.
[00:23:09] And they said but then no one can come.
[00:23:12] I was just talking to Chu Yen.
[00:23:14] She came to visit me.
[00:23:15] A couple of days before I left.
[00:23:17] They went back to keeping the Sabbath morning.
[00:23:20] And to her surprise these people.
[00:23:22] Who had been working on Sabbath morning.
[00:23:25] Started to attend church.
[00:23:27] And to give up their Sabbath morning.
[00:23:29] And the church I believe.
[00:23:31] Is going to grow as a result.
[00:23:33] Of her witness.
[00:23:35] I was privileged to be down there.
[00:23:37] When she changed consultants.
[00:23:39] She was doing obstetrics at the time.
[00:23:41] And I thought this girl had stood up so nobly.
[00:23:44] I said look I'll go with you.
[00:23:47] And I will talk to your consultant.
[00:23:49] On your behalf.
[00:23:50] He was a man of Indian race.
[00:23:53] Malaysian citizen of course.
[00:23:56] And so I explained to him about the significance of the Sabbath.
[00:23:59] I said look many of your doctors here are Islamic.
[00:24:02] They like to get off on Friday.
[00:24:04] I said Dr. Pung is happy to do all their Friday work.
[00:24:09] So that they can follow their convictions.
[00:24:12] But she wants to have the Sabbath off.
[00:24:14] So that she can go and worship in God's church.
[00:24:17] He listened very attentively.
[00:24:19] He himself was a Hindu.
[00:24:22] And very graciously he said.
[00:24:24] I'm sure I can arrange that.
[00:24:26] And I was so impressed.
[00:24:28] I said look I wonder if you'd like me to pray for you and your family.
[00:24:32] And we just got down in his office.
[00:24:35] And it was a thrill to be able to pray for that man.
[00:24:39] And for his family.
[00:24:40] And I just pray that somehow the witness of Chuyen will have an influence upon his heart.
[00:24:47] And we have young people after young people who are coming through of that sort of calibre.
[00:24:53] I'm not just telling you fiction.
[00:24:55] I'm telling you the reality brothers and sisters.
[00:24:58] And I want you to pray for the work.
[00:25:00] I believe something very significant and important is happening in Malaysia.
[00:25:06] Even though it's such a difficult place.
[00:25:09] Well I want to hasten on to tell you about what happened when the Heartland team.
[00:25:15] Many of you know the Heartland team because you have had them here.
[00:25:18] And I know they've been a wonderful blessing.
[00:25:21] And I decided that it was time that we had them in Southeast Asia.
[00:25:26] You know it was so thrilling that we got the support of the union.
[00:25:32] And every one of the five missions in Southeast Asia.
[00:25:37] It's just so good to see God's church leadership realising the value.
[00:25:45] The great value of the work and the ministry of Heartland.
[00:25:53] Very quickly I'll mention because I want to concentrate on what happened in Penang.
[00:25:57] But first of all they went to Bangkok and presented wonderful meetings.
[00:26:02] In the Bangkok Adventist Hospital Church.
[00:26:06] In the Bangkok Chinese Church.
[00:26:09] And in the Bangkok Ekamai Church.
[00:26:11] That is at a great school that we have there.
[00:26:15] And they were shuffling back and forth.
[00:26:17] Of course it's not an easy city Bangkok.
[00:26:20] A city of about 8 million people.
[00:26:21] And the traffic is very dense.
[00:26:24] Very dense indeed.
[00:26:27] But nevertheless.
[00:26:30] Those messages were presented.
[00:26:31] And I was thrilled.
[00:26:33] One of the doctors there.
[00:26:35] Dr. Chok Chuan.
[00:26:37] Came to me and he said.
[00:26:39] I haven't heard messages like this for years.
[00:26:42] He said.
[00:26:42] This is what I'm craving for.
[00:26:44] And a dentist you'll be happy to know.
[00:26:47] Dr. Singh.
[00:26:47] Singh.
[00:26:48] Not the Indian Singh.
[00:26:50] This is a Chinese man.
[00:26:52] S-I-N-G.
[00:26:53] Not S-I-N-G-H.
[00:26:55] Dr. Singh came to me.
[00:26:57] And he said.
[00:26:58] I've just been so blessed.
[00:27:01] During these weekends.
[00:27:02] You know our people.
[00:27:04] Whether they be in the east.
[00:27:05] Or whether they be in the west.
[00:27:07] Are craving for the old Adventist message today.
[00:27:12] And then Dr. Warren Peters.
[00:27:14] Went up to Chiang Mai.
[00:27:16] 500 miles north.
[00:27:17] Up towards the border.
[00:27:19] With Burma and Laos.
[00:27:21] And then down to Bukhet.
[00:27:24] And Hajai.
[00:27:25] In Thailand.
[00:27:26] Where we have substantial churches.
[00:27:29] While my brother.
[00:27:31] Colin.
[00:27:32] And Hal Mair.
[00:27:33] Went right across to Borneo.
[00:27:35] To Sabah and Sarawak.
[00:27:37] They are the two.
[00:27:39] Malaysian states.
[00:27:40] On the northern part.
[00:27:43] Of the island of Borneo.
[00:27:46] And in case any of you.
[00:27:47] Are still thinking about.
[00:27:49] Wild men.
[00:27:50] The Borneo.
[00:27:51] And backward people.
[00:27:52] I want to tell you.
[00:27:53] They're beautiful places.
[00:27:55] Anyone who's been there.
[00:27:57] And they're so affluent.
[00:27:59] And prosperous there.
[00:28:01] Kota Kinabalu.
[00:28:02] The capital city of Sabah.
[00:28:03] Which was formerly.
[00:28:04] British North Borneo.
[00:28:06] Of course.
[00:28:06] And was called Jesselton.
[00:28:07] In those times.
[00:28:08] It's a beautiful city.
[00:28:11] Lovely buildings.
[00:28:12] On the South China Sea.
[00:28:15] Laps on its shore.
[00:28:17] Oh you'd be delighted to see it.
[00:28:19] And we've got a very big church.
[00:28:20] We've got many more members.
[00:28:21] Over in that area.
[00:28:24] The Kadazan people.
[00:28:27] Which are the predominant.
[00:28:28] Adventist people there.
[00:28:30] A very interesting race.
[00:28:31] Very go ahead.
[00:28:32] Very intelligent.
[00:28:34] They.
[00:28:35] It seems that.
[00:28:36] Hundreds of years ago.
[00:28:37] Chinese people.
[00:28:38] Came down.
[00:28:39] And intermarried.
[00:28:40] With the Malay people.
[00:28:41] And out of that.
[00:28:42] Combined.
[00:28:43] Has become a.
[00:28:43] A group of people.
[00:28:45] That are called the Kadazan.
[00:28:46] Many times.
[00:28:47] They look just like Chinese.
[00:28:49] But in fact.
[00:28:49] They speak a Malay type language.
[00:28:51] Because they took the language.
[00:28:53] Into which they intermarried.
[00:28:56] Our.
[00:28:58] Our.
[00:28:59] Mission president.
[00:29:00] Dr. Charles Garbin.
[00:29:01] Is a Kadazan.
[00:29:03] He has a doctorate.
[00:29:04] From Andrews University.
[00:29:05] So does the secretary.
[00:29:07] Treasurer.
[00:29:07] I want to tell you.
[00:29:08] That the leadership of God's work.
[00:29:09] If you are interested in education.
[00:29:11] In those.
[00:29:12] So-called mission field.
[00:29:14] Sometimes better educated than we have.
[00:29:16] In our western areas.
[00:29:18] Not that education is the most important thing.
[00:29:20] But I just mentioned that.
[00:29:22] By way of interest.
[00:29:24] In the world.
[00:29:27] Those men.
[00:29:28] Dr. Garbin.
[00:29:30] Greatly supported.
[00:29:31] What was done there.
[00:29:33] And then across in Surrowack.
[00:29:36] I think the British should remember that.
[00:29:37] The White Rajas of Surrowack.
[00:29:40] The Brook.
[00:29:41] Sir James Brook.
[00:29:42] And Sir Charles Brook.
[00:29:43] Sir Charles Viner Brook.
[00:29:45] Do you know about the history of the old British Empire?
[00:29:47] Don't let an Australian tell you British people that.
[00:29:50] You should know it.
[00:29:51] And know it very well.
[00:29:53] For over a century.
[00:29:55] Or close to a century.
[00:29:58] A British family ruled Surrowack.
[00:30:01] The Brook family.
[00:30:02] And they were called the White Rajas.
[00:30:04] And then in 1946.
[00:30:06] Sir Charles Viner Brook gave it over as a crown colony.
[00:30:09] To Britain.
[00:30:10] Before it became part of Malaysia.
[00:30:13] And achieved independence.
[00:30:14] Kuching.
[00:30:15] By the way.
[00:30:17] That's the Malay word for cat.
[00:30:18] I don't know why you'd call a city cat.
[00:30:20] But nevertheless.
[00:30:21] That's what it's called.
[00:30:23] And I really love that.
[00:30:25] The Surrowack River goes through.
[00:30:27] The city of Kuching.
[00:30:29] I very much enjoy it.
[00:30:31] We've got a very large school there.
[00:30:33] And that's the headquarters of our Surrowack mission.
[00:30:35] And there past the Chu Weifong.
[00:30:39] Is the president.
[00:30:40] And again.
[00:30:41] With open arms.
[00:30:42] In several of the centres.
[00:30:44] They presented the message.
[00:30:46] Then they came together to Penang.
[00:30:48] And I'll just race over that for a moment.
[00:30:51] Later.
[00:30:52] Dr.
[00:30:55] Dr. Peters.
[00:30:56] Spoke to the physicians.
[00:30:58] In the city of Alistar.
[00:31:00] Then in Sungai Patani.
[00:31:02] Then to a big meeting of people.
[00:31:05] In the city of Ipo.
[00:31:06] My brother presented messages.
[00:31:09] In Kuala Lumpur.
[00:31:11] Hal Mare.
[00:31:12] In Ipo.
[00:31:13] And in Sungai Way.
[00:31:15] And then they were brought together.
[00:31:17] To Port Dixon.
[00:31:19] They still have a few British names.
[00:31:21] Left in Malaysia.
[00:31:22] You see.
[00:31:23] And that was.
[00:31:25] To speak to the ministers.
[00:31:27] The whole ministers.
[00:31:28] Of the Peninsular Malaysia Mission.
[00:31:30] At their ministerial retreat.
[00:31:31] What an opportunity.
[00:31:33] The Heartland team had.
[00:31:35] And I want to say.
[00:31:36] They presented the distinctive messages.
[00:31:38] To those ministers.
[00:31:39] And they rose.
[00:31:40] And thrilled to them.
[00:31:42] One after the other.
[00:31:43] They came to us.
[00:31:44] And said what a thrilling.
[00:31:45] Thrill it was.
[00:31:46] Pastor George Johnson.
[00:31:47] Our union president.
[00:31:49] Was present.
[00:31:49] Was present.
[00:31:50] And he told me how.
[00:31:53] Greatly he enjoyed.
[00:31:55] Those messages.
[00:31:56] And those meetings.
[00:31:58] And it's just so thrilling.
[00:31:59] To be working with men.
[00:32:01] Who really love the truth of God.
[00:32:03] And I believe.
[00:32:04] That the ministers.
[00:32:07] Of the.
[00:32:08] Peninsular Malaysia Mission.
[00:32:10] Were really put on fire.
[00:32:12] As a result of those meetings.
[00:32:13] They later went down to Malacca.
[00:32:14] Presented meetings there.
[00:32:16] And finally.
[00:32:17] Meetings in Singapore.
[00:32:19] All that happened.
[00:32:20] By the way.
[00:32:21] In two weeks.
[00:32:21] So they were rather be.
[00:32:22] Well.
[00:32:23] Two weekends.
[00:32:24] And the two.
[00:32:24] Three weekends.
[00:32:25] And the two weeks.
[00:32:26] In between.
[00:32:27] They certainly.
[00:32:28] Earned their money's worth.
[00:32:30] In that trip.
[00:32:32] But what happened in Penang?
[00:32:35] Well.
[00:32:36] I had hoped.
[00:32:37] That we could have.
[00:32:39] Something very special there.
[00:32:41] But.
[00:32:42] You know.
[00:32:42] I have.
[00:32:43] Such small faith.
[00:32:44] That it was.
[00:32:45] Vastly below.
[00:32:47] Highest expectations.
[00:32:50] We.
[00:32:51] Had meetings.
[00:32:52] In both the Chinese church.
[00:32:53] And the English church.
[00:32:54] In Penang.
[00:32:56] We have.
[00:32:58] About.
[00:32:59] Two hundred members.
[00:33:00] In the English church.
[00:33:01] About a hundred and fifty.
[00:33:02] In the Chinese church.
[00:33:03] When we say English church.
[00:33:04] It's not English people.
[00:33:05] It's English speaking.
[00:33:07] They're mainly of course.
[00:33:08] Chinese and Indians.
[00:33:10] With a few of us.
[00:33:11] Who can't speak Chinese.
[00:33:12] And he's also.
[00:33:13] Making up the group.
[00:33:16] And those meetings.
[00:33:18] Were just so received.
[00:33:19] I was thrilled.
[00:33:21] To see.
[00:33:22] Backslidden Adventists.
[00:33:23] If you want to get.
[00:33:25] Backslidden Adventists.
[00:33:26] Excited about our message.
[00:33:27] Preach the message.
[00:33:28] Amen.
[00:33:29] That's what I want to say to you.
[00:33:31] And our pastor.
[00:33:32] Pastor.
[00:33:32] See you came to me.
[00:33:33] On the Sabbath.
[00:33:34] When we were so filled up.
[00:33:35] Because we had to hold it.
[00:33:37] In the hospital.
[00:33:37] To fit all the people in.
[00:33:39] Because the Chinese church.
[00:33:41] Was using.
[00:33:41] We only have the one church building.
[00:33:43] And we normally.
[00:33:43] Have an early church.
[00:33:45] For the.
[00:33:46] English.
[00:33:47] And a later church.
[00:33:48] But this time.
[00:33:48] We decided.
[00:33:50] To separate them.
[00:33:51] Completely.
[00:33:51] And we could never have fitted them.
[00:33:53] In our church.
[00:33:54] All the people had turned up.
[00:33:55] And the pastor said to me.
[00:33:57] Man.
[00:33:57] I'm so thrilled.
[00:33:59] He said.
[00:33:59] To see all these.
[00:34:00] These.
[00:34:02] Backslidden Adventists.
[00:34:02] That we've got here today.
[00:34:04] And I want to tell you.
[00:34:05] Not all.
[00:34:05] But most of them.
[00:34:06] Are continuing to attend.
[00:34:08] You know.
[00:34:09] The message stirs people.
[00:34:11] You talk a waffly.
[00:34:13] Message.
[00:34:13] That you can hear.
[00:34:14] In any church at Christendom.
[00:34:16] And who's going to be bothered.
[00:34:17] By that.
[00:34:18] But give the message.
[00:34:19] That Jesus has given.
[00:34:21] To the world.
[00:34:21] And that will stir the souls.
[00:34:23] And I.
[00:34:24] Just so thrilled.
[00:34:25] To see these people.
[00:34:26] Who have been so careless.
[00:34:29] Returning.
[00:34:30] Because they've heard the faith.
[00:34:32] And they've been inspired by it.
[00:34:35] Well on Saturday night.
[00:34:36] We decided.
[00:34:38] And we had planned.
[00:34:40] That there would be a public meeting.
[00:34:42] On health.
[00:34:43] You know.
[00:34:44] The health message.
[00:34:46] Is.
[00:34:46] A means of opening up.
[00:34:48] The truth to people.
[00:34:49] And we asked Dr Warren Peters.
[00:34:51] To speak on.
[00:34:52] Topic of prevention.
[00:34:53] Of heart attacks.
[00:34:54] Strokes.
[00:34:55] And diabetes.
[00:34:56] Very relevant.
[00:34:57] In that country.
[00:34:59] We had held.
[00:35:00] One or two meetings.
[00:35:02] In the past.
[00:35:03] In fact.
[00:35:03] Only in January.
[00:35:04] And this was March.
[00:35:05] We'd held one.
[00:35:06] With a very eminent specialist.
[00:35:09] From.
[00:35:10] From.
[00:35:12] From the United States.
[00:35:13] And we'd been thrilled.
[00:35:15] Over 200 people.
[00:35:16] Had come to that meeting.
[00:35:17] But you know.
[00:35:18] In my heart.
[00:35:19] I prayed the Lord.
[00:35:20] Look.
[00:35:20] This is special Lord.
[00:35:22] Bring 300.
[00:35:23] That was what I was praying.
[00:35:25] Bring 300.
[00:35:26] And I felt.
[00:35:27] That I was showing faith.
[00:35:28] In a moment.
[00:35:29] You'll see.
[00:35:29] How faceless.
[00:35:30] I was.
[00:35:31] And so we had.
[00:35:33] Chairs set out.
[00:35:35] According to my.
[00:35:36] Great faith.
[00:35:38] For 300 people.
[00:35:42] I tell you.
[00:35:44] 20 minutes.
[00:35:45] Before the meeting.
[00:35:46] Was due to start.
[00:35:47] Every one of those seats.
[00:35:48] Was full.
[00:35:49] And the people.
[00:35:50] Were coming.
[00:35:50] We didn't know where.
[00:35:51] To put all the cars.
[00:35:52] It was just chaos.
[00:35:54] Out in the hospital grounds.
[00:35:55] With the parking.
[00:35:56] We can take.
[00:35:57] Lots of cars.
[00:35:59] But not the number.
[00:35:59] That came that night.
[00:36:01] And they kept coming.
[00:36:02] And we kept.
[00:36:02] Finding seats.
[00:36:03] We had to get.
[00:36:04] Forms.
[00:36:05] And we.
[00:36:05] We got seats.
[00:36:06] From wherever we could.
[00:36:08] And then.
[00:36:09] The.
[00:36:11] Our auditorium.
[00:36:11] Even with people.
[00:36:13] Standing up.
[00:36:13] And squashed in.
[00:36:14] Would only take.
[00:36:14] About 400 people.
[00:36:16] And they still kept coming.
[00:36:17] And so I quickly.
[00:36:18] Called our people.
[00:36:19] It was just amazing.
[00:36:20] What they did.
[00:36:20] I said.
[00:36:21] Quickly.
[00:36:21] Put in a line.
[00:36:23] And put a tele.
[00:36:24] A closed circuit.
[00:36:25] Television.
[00:36:26] Screen up.
[00:36:27] And so the people.
[00:36:29] Then started to.
[00:36:30] To fill in.
[00:36:31] In other places.
[00:36:31] In fact.
[00:36:32] I'd forgotten about.
[00:36:33] I have got a couple.
[00:36:34] Of pictures here.
[00:36:34] To show you.
[00:36:35] That we're not talking.
[00:36:36] Fiction.
[00:36:37] And.
[00:36:38] I'll pass it around.
[00:36:40] You'll see one.
[00:36:40] With the room.
[00:36:41] And you can't see all.
[00:36:42] There was no way.
[00:36:43] We could photograph.
[00:36:44] All the people.
[00:36:44] Because of the.
[00:36:45] Construction.
[00:36:47] But.
[00:36:48] There was 400.
[00:36:49] In this room.
[00:36:50] But of course.
[00:36:50] It was around.
[00:36:51] Corners.
[00:36:51] You can't see it all.
[00:36:53] And then.
[00:36:53] This is another place.
[00:36:55] And there were several.
[00:36:55] Places where we put.
[00:36:56] The people.
[00:36:57] They.
[00:36:57] This was a long way.
[00:36:58] From the auditorium.
[00:37:00] It was in.
[00:37:01] The.
[00:37:02] I don't know what.
[00:37:03] The people coming to the hospital.
[00:37:04] For medical care.
[00:37:05] Were thinking.
[00:37:06] But.
[00:37:06] We put a television screen.
[00:37:08] And you can see.
[00:37:09] The people are sitting on the staircase.
[00:37:11] And they're way down the hall.
[00:37:12] But we couldn't fit it in the photograph.
[00:37:14] And all together.
[00:37:15] We had.
[00:37:17] 700 people.
[00:37:18] Come to hear that message.
[00:37:21] And of course.
[00:37:21] As I say.
[00:37:22] Only 400 could see the speaker.
[00:37:24] But we had these.
[00:37:25] Closed circuit television set up.
[00:37:27] We had a little camera.
[00:37:28] Like we've got here.
[00:37:29] And we projected it.
[00:37:32] All around the hospital.
[00:37:33] Into every nook and cranny.
[00:37:34] Where the people.
[00:37:35] And I'll just pass these around.
[00:37:37] And you can see that.
[00:37:39] There is the reality.
[00:37:41] It's no fiction.
[00:37:43] Well.
[00:37:44] It was just so thrilling to us.
[00:37:47] To have all these people.
[00:37:48] There come.
[00:37:49] To hear.
[00:37:50] This message.
[00:37:52] God given message on health.
[00:37:57] I'd introduced Dr. Peters.
[00:38:00] The meeting had just gotten underway.
[00:38:03] And I had just gone off the.
[00:38:05] Podium.
[00:38:07] Or away from the podium.
[00:38:09] When.
[00:38:10] Near tragedy struck.
[00:38:12] Here we were.
[00:38:14] So thrilled with what was happening.
[00:38:15] What was happening.
[00:38:17] And just.
[00:38:18] Dr. Peters was just about to speak.
[00:38:21] When I went around the back.
[00:38:23] And Andrew Lim.
[00:38:24] Our vice president for finance.
[00:38:26] Came to me.
[00:38:26] He was.
[00:38:27] He was looking like a ghost.
[00:38:29] He said.
[00:38:30] Russ.
[00:38:30] He said.
[00:38:31] He said.
[00:38:32] You better come here.
[00:38:33] We're in terrible trouble.
[00:38:35] I said.
[00:38:36] Why?
[00:38:36] What's the problem?
[00:38:38] He said.
[00:38:39] The immigration has just rung us.
[00:38:41] From Kuala Lumpur.
[00:38:44] Telling us.
[00:38:45] That we have to abandon the meeting.
[00:38:48] That they have no permit for this meeting.
[00:38:54] I've never felt so devastated in all my life.
[00:38:56] What a disaster that would have been.
[00:38:58] If we had to stand up and tell the people.
[00:39:00] We're sorry.
[00:39:00] We can't go on with the meeting.
[00:39:07] I later found that in fact it is a law.
[00:39:10] That every meeting has to have police approval.
[00:39:14] In Malaysia.
[00:39:15] You're not allowed to have meetings.
[00:39:20] I called together three or four of our staff.
[00:39:23] And I said.
[00:39:24] Look.
[00:39:24] Let us get down on our knees.
[00:39:26] That a number was left to ring in Kuala Lumpur.
[00:39:30] To speak to this immigration official.
[00:39:36] I said.
[00:39:36] I'm not going to speak to that man until we've spoken to God.
[00:39:41] And we sat down or knelt down.
[00:39:43] And we prayed.
[00:39:44] I tell you.
[00:39:45] That was an earnest prayer.
[00:39:46] Fortunately Dr. Peters knew nothing of all the drama that was going on behind the scene.
[00:39:52] And neither did the 700 people.
[00:39:54] And we prayed.
[00:39:55] And we prayed earnestly.
[00:39:57] That somehow God would give us wisdom.
[00:39:59] How to meet this crisis.
[00:40:03] And then I remembered that our anaesthetist.
[00:40:08] Dr. Aramugam.
[00:40:09] His brother was the Deputy Minister for Health for the country.
[00:40:12] Datu Pathmanab.
[00:40:14] And Datu is a title.
[00:40:15] Something like a knighthood.
[00:40:18] And so I called Dr. Aramugam.
[00:40:20] And I said.
[00:40:21] Aramugam.
[00:40:22] Can you ring your brother up in Kuala Lumpur.
[00:40:25] And tell him the mess that we're in.
[00:40:28] And see whether he can use some influence on our behalf.
[00:40:31] To ask the Immigration Department.
[00:40:34] Not to enforce this.
[00:40:35] That this is just a meeting to help the public.
[00:40:38] There's no political problems associated with it.
[00:40:43] And he was very glad to do this.
[00:40:44] And so he rang up his brother.
[00:40:47] A brother-in-law.
[00:40:48] Datu Pathmanab.
[00:40:51] And to our horror.
[00:40:54] Only the children answered the phone.
[00:40:56] And said.
[00:40:56] Oh dad's out at some big meeting.
[00:40:58] But we don't know where he is.
[00:41:01] He said.
[00:41:02] Well look.
[00:41:02] I know he's secretary.
[00:41:04] This isn't a.
[00:41:05] When we say a secretary.
[00:41:07] This was higher than just a typist.
[00:41:10] We're talking about a doctor.
[00:41:12] Who was a secretary in the Department of Health.
[00:41:16] The number two man.
[00:41:18] And so we.
[00:41:19] We rang him.
[00:41:21] And his children answered the phone.
[00:41:23] They said.
[00:41:23] Oh he's gone to a big.
[00:41:25] Meeting with.
[00:41:26] Datu Pathmanab.
[00:41:27] So they are both together.
[00:41:29] And no one seemed to know where that was.
[00:41:31] You know.
[00:41:31] Saturday evening isn't the easiest time.
[00:41:34] To get high government officials.
[00:41:38] And you know.
[00:41:39] I kept praying silently.
[00:41:40] What can we do?
[00:41:41] Because I didn't want to ring back this number.
[00:41:45] Until we had some sort of help.
[00:41:47] From someone in authority.
[00:41:48] And then I said.
[00:41:50] What about the director of health.
[00:41:52] For this city?
[00:41:55] It's a woman doctor.
[00:41:57] Dr Lim.
[00:41:59] I said.
[00:41:59] She's been very favourable.
[00:42:01] To our health outreach.
[00:42:02] Why don't we ring her.
[00:42:04] And frankly.
[00:42:04] Tell her the mess that we're in.
[00:42:06] And so we did.
[00:42:08] And she happened to be home.
[00:42:10] And we explained to her.
[00:42:12] The meeting that we were having.
[00:42:13] And how we'd received this demand.
[00:42:15] From the immigration department.
[00:42:16] And she was extremely sympathetic.
[00:42:18] She said.
[00:42:19] But you're just helping the people of this city.
[00:42:23] And she was rather.
[00:42:24] She had a sense of consternation.
[00:42:26] That there would be some thought.
[00:42:28] Of closing the meeting down.
[00:42:30] She said.
[00:42:31] I see no reason why you should cease the meeting.
[00:42:34] That was all I needed to hear.
[00:42:36] I now felt more relaxed.
[00:42:40] To ring the immigration department.
[00:42:43] And so we took the number.
[00:42:45] Prayed again.
[00:42:47] Then we took the number.
[00:42:48] And we rang the immigration department.
[00:42:53] There was a real surprise.
[00:42:58] That came to us.
[00:42:59] Because it was a phony number.
[00:43:02] And then later we found.
[00:43:05] That the whole thing had been a hoax.
[00:43:07] Now who perpetrated that hoax.
[00:43:09] I do not know.
[00:43:13] Satan was behind it.
[00:43:14] I'll say that.
[00:43:16] But what had happened.
[00:43:17] How we found in the end.
[00:43:19] Was that.
[00:43:21] The name of the immigration officer given to us.
[00:43:24] Inchi Khaled.
[00:43:25] Which of course is a very Muslim name.
[00:43:29] There was an Inchi Khaled that we dealt with in the immigration in Penang.
[00:43:33] And so we thought.
[00:43:35] We'll ring him and ask him.
[00:43:36] Who's this Inchi Khaled down in Kuala Lumpur.
[00:43:39] Inchi Khaled.
[00:43:40] And so we rang up Inchi Khaled.
[00:43:41] Whom we knew from the immigration department in Penang.
[00:43:44] He said.
[00:43:45] I want to tell you.
[00:43:46] There's no such person in the immigration in Kuala Lumpur.
[00:43:50] I'm the only Inchi Khaled.
[00:43:53] In the immigration department.
[00:43:56] And it most certainly did not come from me.
[00:43:59] Oh how we thank God.
[00:44:01] But it was a.
[00:44:01] You know.
[00:44:02] I want to tell you.
[00:44:03] That it was almost over by the time we got our relief.
[00:44:06] But at least the meeting was going on.
[00:44:08] And the people knew nothing about.
[00:44:09] The devil hates this message.
[00:44:13] You know.
[00:44:16] Many things came from that.
[00:44:18] We put up a big demonstration.
[00:44:21] Of all the facilities in our hospital.
[00:44:24] You know to get 700 people there.
[00:44:26] It's a marvellous opportunity.
[00:44:28] To let them know what we're doing.
[00:44:30] We therefore.
[00:44:31] We also invited everyone who wished to.
[00:44:34] To have a blood test.
[00:44:35] To see what their cholesterol and blood sugar was.
[00:44:38] We charged them.
[00:44:39] At a low rate.
[00:44:40] But we still made a little profit on it.
[00:44:42] To our shock.
[00:44:43] Over 400 people said they wanted the blood test.
[00:44:47] I tell you.
[00:44:47] Our laboratory technicians were working very hard that night.
[00:44:51] Just crowds of them coming in.
[00:44:53] It was a good job that we have that latest equipment.
[00:44:55] Where we can just put it all in.
[00:44:57] And do many many tests at once.
[00:45:02] Furthermore.
[00:45:04] We had a book display.
[00:45:07] And you should have seen the people.
[00:45:08] Come in to that book display.
[00:45:10] And buy.
[00:45:12] The books that we had.
[00:45:15] Also I had a big stack.
[00:45:16] I wish I'd have had more.
[00:45:18] Of our Voice of Prophecy health course cards.
[00:45:21] It's a great lead in to our message.
[00:45:24] I think.
[00:45:25] I didn't count them.
[00:45:26] But there must have been well over 100.
[00:45:27] And I want to say.
[00:45:28] When you go to the sort of people that came.
[00:45:30] To our meeting.
[00:45:32] Door to door.
[00:45:33] Most of them say.
[00:45:33] Oh no.
[00:45:34] Not interested.
[00:45:34] Not interested.
[00:45:36] We just.
[00:45:37] We just enrolled.
[00:45:39] That many.
[00:45:40] Whatever it amounted to.
[00:45:41] In the health course.
[00:45:43] They've been deluged.
[00:45:44] Down in Singapore.
[00:45:45] Trying to correct the courses.
[00:45:47] Praise the Lord.
[00:45:48] I like them being over busy.
[00:45:49] In that respect.
[00:45:53] Furthermore.
[00:45:54] We decided.
[00:45:54] That we'd open our health food.
[00:45:57] We've got a little mini mart there.
[00:45:59] With health food.
[00:46:00] Because we've been talking about health.
[00:46:02] Look.
[00:46:02] The people just came in.
[00:46:04] And bought our health foods.
[00:46:06] And what is more.
[00:46:07] They've kept coming back.
[00:46:09] Coming back.
[00:46:10] They've been.
[00:46:11] Taking a track.
[00:46:13] Also.
[00:46:13] The next day.
[00:46:14] We were nearly flooded.
[00:46:15] With patients.
[00:46:16] Who'd been there that night.
[00:46:18] On the Sunday.
[00:46:19] Coming back.
[00:46:19] And saying.
[00:46:20] Hey look.
[00:46:21] My cholesterol.
[00:46:22] Was.
[00:46:23] I'm very worried about this.
[00:46:25] Can you look after me?
[00:46:29] You know.
[00:46:30] We didn't do this.
[00:46:32] In order to.
[00:46:34] Increase the patronage.
[00:46:35] Of the hospital.
[00:46:36] But I want to assure you.
[00:46:37] That.
[00:46:38] In the month of March.
[00:46:40] When this occurred.
[00:46:41] We had.
[00:46:42] The greatest month.
[00:46:44] Ever.
[00:46:45] In the history.
[00:46:45] Of the Penang Adventist Hospital.
[00:46:47] You know.
[00:46:48] When we stand up.
[00:46:49] And do God's work.
[00:46:51] He gives us.
[00:46:52] So many blessings.
[00:46:53] We cannot.
[00:46:54] Anticipate them all.
[00:46:55] And I want to.
[00:46:57] Encourage you.
[00:46:57] In these matters.
[00:46:59] Go ahead in faith.
[00:47:00] Never quaver.
[00:47:01] God will bring the blessing.
[00:47:03] He'll pour us out.
[00:47:04] A blessing.
[00:47:04] That we won't be able.
[00:47:05] To receive it.
[00:47:07] And.
[00:47:07] I just got a letter.
[00:47:09] On Friday.
[00:47:10] From Mr.
[00:47:12] Ronald Coe.
[00:47:13] Telling me.
[00:47:14] That in May.
[00:47:16] We exceeded.
[00:47:17] Anything.
[00:47:18] We've ever done before.
[00:47:19] Including.
[00:47:20] March.
[00:47:20] God is continuing.
[00:47:21] To bless.
[00:47:23] You know.
[00:47:24] It costs millions.
[00:47:25] Of dollars.
[00:47:25] To run.
[00:47:26] Millions of pounds.
[00:47:27] Let me put it in English money.
[00:47:29] Millions of pounds.
[00:47:30] To run a mission hospital.
[00:47:31] Don't think.
[00:47:32] It's a small matter.
[00:47:34] Very much.
[00:47:34] Cheaper to run the South England conference.
[00:47:36] Than it is to run one mission hospital.
[00:47:38] In the far east.
[00:47:39] I want to tell you that.
[00:47:40] I want to tell you that fact.
[00:47:43] And.
[00:47:44] God supplies the means.
[00:47:45] We don't get.
[00:47:46] Sabbath school offerings.
[00:47:47] It all comes.
[00:47:48] From what is generated.
[00:47:50] In the hospital.
[00:47:51] And I'm proud of that.
[00:47:53] Because God.
[00:47:54] God allows the means.
[00:47:55] For evangelistic.
[00:47:57] Outreach.
[00:47:59] Well that.
[00:47:59] Would have been.
[00:48:01] Great.
[00:48:01] If I could have just left it there.
[00:48:03] But I've got a much greater story.
[00:48:05] To complete with.
[00:48:06] You know.
[00:48:07] When I saw those.
[00:48:08] 700 people there.
[00:48:10] I thought they need to know.
[00:48:11] A little bit more about.
[00:48:13] Than just how to.
[00:48:14] Not get a heart attack.
[00:48:16] Or a stroke.
[00:48:18] Or diabetes.
[00:48:20] And so I stood up.
[00:48:21] And I said.
[00:48:22] We're continuing these meetings.
[00:48:24] With this heartland team.
[00:48:26] Of course they had been prepared.
[00:48:27] Only for our own believers.
[00:48:29] We're.
[00:48:30] We're completing those meetings.
[00:48:32] And we'd like to invite.
[00:48:34] You to come along.
[00:48:36] Now I said.
[00:48:37] These will be all.
[00:48:38] From the Christian perspective.
[00:48:40] I thought it was important.
[00:48:41] Let us not hide our.
[00:48:44] Our.
[00:48:45] Our light under a bushel.
[00:48:48] We're Christians.
[00:48:49] And proud of it.
[00:48:50] Brothers and sisters.
[00:48:51] And so I didn't want.
[00:48:53] The Hindus.
[00:48:54] Or the Buddhists.
[00:48:55] Or the Muslims.
[00:48:56] Coming and saying.
[00:48:56] Listen.
[00:48:57] You tricked us into coming.
[00:48:58] And I said.
[00:48:59] What is more.
[00:49:00] My brother.
[00:49:01] Is an ordained minister.
[00:49:02] Of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
[00:49:04] And he will be speaking.
[00:49:06] From a Christian perspective.
[00:49:08] I said.
[00:49:09] Our first meeting.
[00:49:10] And of course.
[00:49:10] We had only arranged this.
[00:49:12] For.
[00:49:13] The staff worship.
[00:49:14] That was the purpose.
[00:49:16] And we had.
[00:49:17] Started.
[00:49:18] We would have started.
[00:49:19] At 7.30 a.m.
[00:49:20] I wouldn't think.
[00:49:21] On a Sunday morning.
[00:49:22] That's a prime time.
[00:49:23] For an evangelistic meeting.
[00:49:25] Would you regard that.
[00:49:25] As prime evangelistic time.
[00:49:28] 7.30 a.m.
[00:49:29] But we had to have it.
[00:49:31] From 7.30 to 8.30.
[00:49:32] Because we have such a crush.
[00:49:33] Of patients.
[00:49:34] Coming on Sunday.
[00:49:36] We were holding it.
[00:49:37] In the hospital.
[00:49:39] That naturally.
[00:49:39] We had to have it early.
[00:49:42] It was only to be.
[00:49:43] For our workers.
[00:49:44] And any.
[00:49:44] Members.
[00:49:45] That wanted to come.
[00:49:46] But I opened it up.
[00:49:49] I didn't expect.
[00:49:50] That we'd have.
[00:49:51] Much response.
[00:49:53] To my surprise.
[00:49:54] 150 people turned up.
[00:49:56] 7.30 in the morning.
[00:49:59] And there.
[00:50:01] The Adventist faith.
[00:50:02] Was preached.
[00:50:02] And so I said.
[00:50:03] Well there are going to be more meetings.
[00:50:04] At 3 o'clock.
[00:50:05] This afternoon.
[00:50:07] After all the patients.
[00:50:08] Have been completed.
[00:50:09] My brother.
[00:50:10] Will be speaking on a topic.
[00:50:12] Which many of you.
[00:50:13] Know nothing about.
[00:50:14] Would you think this would have attracted anyone?
[00:50:16] Was called.
[00:50:17] The sanctuary message.
[00:50:19] That was his topic.
[00:50:21] And of course.
[00:50:22] The people looked rather dense.
[00:50:24] When I said that was a topic.
[00:50:26] And so I built it up.
[00:50:27] And I talked to them a little bit.
[00:50:29] About the sanctuary.
[00:50:30] In the wilderness.
[00:50:30] And that it had a vital role.
[00:50:33] To play in the Christian faith today.
[00:50:36] And I wondered if anyone was interested.
[00:50:40] And about 180 people.
[00:50:42] Turned up at that meeting.
[00:50:44] And then at the next meeting.
[00:50:47] In the evening.
[00:50:48] You'll never guess what the topic was.
[00:50:50] The 1888 message.
[00:50:52] It was meant for Adventists of course.
[00:50:55] But we had to.
[00:50:57] My brother had to modify.
[00:50:59] What he'd intended to say of course.
[00:51:01] But he explained.
[00:51:02] About the great message of 1888.
[00:51:04] And what it was.
[00:51:05] And you know.
[00:51:06] You would be shocked.
[00:51:07] At how the people came to us.
[00:51:09] And said.
[00:51:10] We haven't heard messages like this.
[00:51:13] This is intriguing.
[00:51:14] You know.
[00:51:15] If you want to get people.
[00:51:17] Interested in your faith.
[00:51:18] Preach something.
[00:51:20] Well.
[00:51:21] We didn't have much hope.
[00:51:23] For the next morning.
[00:51:24] Because it was a work day.
[00:51:25] Monday.
[00:51:26] And we were holding one.
[00:51:27] At eight o'clock in the morning.
[00:51:28] On a Monday.
[00:51:29] That's not a very propitious time.
[00:51:31] And I afraid.
[00:51:32] Many people came and said.
[00:51:34] Oh.
[00:51:34] What a pity.
[00:51:35] You know.
[00:51:35] We're working.
[00:51:36] We can't be there.
[00:51:37] Understandably.
[00:51:38] Eight a.m.
[00:51:39] In the morning.
[00:51:40] I don't think that.
[00:51:41] Many of our evangelists.
[00:51:42] Would choose that time to.
[00:51:44] But you know.
[00:51:46] Nevertheless.
[00:51:47] One hundred and forty.
[00:51:48] People turned up.
[00:51:49] Eight a.m.
[00:51:51] And about.
[00:51:52] Eighty of those.
[00:51:53] Were non-Adventists.
[00:51:54] About eighty of them.
[00:51:55] Were non-Adventists.
[00:51:57] And the next day.
[00:51:58] Which was the last day.
[00:51:59] A hundred and sixty.
[00:52:00] Turned up.
[00:52:01] At eight o'clock.
[00:52:02] In the morning.
[00:52:03] And it was so thrilling.
[00:52:05] And Colin said to me.
[00:52:06] Look Russ.
[00:52:06] You've got to continue with this.
[00:52:08] There's a real interest.
[00:52:09] You know.
[00:52:10] This was how blind.
[00:52:12] And lacking.
[00:52:13] We were.
[00:52:13] We hadn't thought about that.
[00:52:15] And so I stood up.
[00:52:16] And said.
[00:52:17] Well look.
[00:52:18] I'm so thrilled with the interest.
[00:52:22] We are planning to.
[00:52:25] Each Wednesday evening.
[00:52:26] Continue these meetings.
[00:52:28] And they have been coming.
[00:52:32] And I decided to.
[00:52:33] That the time had come.
[00:52:35] To present in a different way.
[00:52:37] You know.
[00:52:38] Sometimes.
[00:52:39] And I'm not decrying this approach.
[00:52:40] I think it has its place.
[00:52:42] Yes.
[00:52:42] Make no mistake.
[00:52:44] But we start off with.
[00:52:46] Archaeology.
[00:52:48] And some of these things.
[00:52:49] And by the time we get down.
[00:52:50] To the testing faith.
[00:52:52] Everyone has got tired of coming.
[00:52:54] And I decided.
[00:52:56] That perhaps we would try something else.
[00:52:58] Let's give them the key doctrines.
[00:52:59] From the start.
[00:53:01] And let the flak fall where it may.
[00:53:05] And so we took up.
[00:53:06] The state of the dead.
[00:53:10] And of course.
[00:53:11] That's a very interesting topic.
[00:53:12] To people.
[00:53:13] Some of them were Christians.
[00:53:15] Of other faiths.
[00:53:15] Who believed in the immortality.
[00:53:17] Of the soul.
[00:53:18] Of course.
[00:53:19] Others were.
[00:53:20] People.
[00:53:21] Buddhists.
[00:53:22] Believing in.
[00:53:25] Reincarnation.
[00:53:26] And so forth.
[00:53:27] But they were intrigued.
[00:53:29] And so many of them.
[00:53:30] Came to me.
[00:53:31] And said.
[00:53:32] Oh.
[00:53:33] I was so thrilled.
[00:53:34] With that message.
[00:53:35] You know.
[00:53:35] The truth about the state of man in death.
[00:53:38] Is a thrilling message.
[00:53:40] It really is.
[00:53:41] And then I said.
[00:53:42] We're going to take up the Sabbath.
[00:53:45] And we did.
[00:53:46] And the last Wednesday night.
[00:53:49] I was there.
[00:53:49] We took up other topics.
[00:53:51] I spoke.
[00:53:52] On the subject.
[00:53:53] Does the day matter?
[00:53:55] You know.
[00:53:55] It's one thing to prove.
[00:53:56] That Saturday is the Sabbath.
[00:53:58] It's another thing to prove.
[00:53:59] That it's significant.
[00:54:00] That you keep it.
[00:54:03] You know.
[00:54:03] One of the great thrills.
[00:54:05] Was that this man.
[00:54:06] Came to me.
[00:54:07] Mr. Ong.
[00:54:08] His name is.
[00:54:08] A Chinese man.
[00:54:10] He said.
[00:54:11] Dr. Standish.
[00:54:12] He said.
[00:54:12] I was very convicted.
[00:54:14] By that message today.
[00:54:16] He said.
[00:54:17] I want you to know.
[00:54:19] That I have just.
[00:54:21] Promised God.
[00:54:22] That from now on.
[00:54:23] I am going to be a Sabbath keeper.
[00:54:25] And he said.
[00:54:26] I have made a decision.
[00:54:27] To be baptized.
[00:54:28] And I understand.
[00:54:29] From Pastor Wa.
[00:54:31] That that man.
[00:54:32] Will be baptized.
[00:54:33] Very shortly.
[00:54:34] And there are others.
[00:54:35] Who are.
[00:54:36] Going ahead.
[00:54:37] I've left them with.
[00:54:37] Pastor Wa.
[00:54:38] Our chaplain.
[00:54:39] He's now having.
[00:54:40] Bible marking classes.
[00:54:42] And I want you to pray.
[00:54:43] For those folks.
[00:54:44] I don't know.
[00:54:44] How many.
[00:54:45] Will come.
[00:54:46] But even if it's just.
[00:54:47] Mr. O.
[00:54:48] Won't that be thrilling.
[00:54:50] One soul.
[00:54:51] But there are many others.
[00:54:53] Who have been coming.
[00:54:54] Week in.
[00:54:54] Week out.
[00:54:55] Week in.
[00:54:56] Week out.
[00:54:56] To those meetings.
[00:54:59] Or when we put.
[00:55:01] The health message.
[00:55:01] In it's right perspective.
[00:55:03] And combine it.
[00:55:05] Combine it.
[00:55:06] Brothers and sisters.
[00:55:08] With.
[00:55:08] The distinctives.
[00:55:10] Of our faith.
[00:55:12] I don't know why we're so afraid.
[00:55:14] Of the distinctives.
[00:55:15] Of our faith.
[00:55:17] Let us stand up.
[00:55:18] Boldly for the truth.
[00:55:19] And preach it.
[00:55:21] Sure there will be those.
[00:55:23] Who will rebel against it.
[00:55:24] We can't expect everyone.
[00:55:26] To accept it.
[00:55:27] And it may be.
[00:55:28] That when we preach the Sabbath.
[00:55:29] It didn't happen in Penang.
[00:55:31] But in England.
[00:55:32] Or somewhere.
[00:55:33] Maybe our numbers will halve.
[00:55:34] The next week.
[00:55:35] Who knows.
[00:55:36] But you can be sure.
[00:55:38] That at least.
[00:55:39] People have been given an opportunity.
[00:55:41] To hear the truth of God.
[00:55:43] And that's what we're being asked to do.
[00:55:45] And those that remain.
[00:55:46] Have a real interest.
[00:55:48] A real interest.
[00:55:50] Don't worry about having huge numbers.
[00:55:52] At our meetings.
[00:55:54] If we don't bring any to the Lord.
[00:55:57] Far better to have a small meeting.
[00:55:59] But have a handful of souls to present.
[00:56:02] To Jesus.
[00:56:04] Under his power.
[00:56:05] And his witness.
[00:56:07] And I want to encourage each one of you.
[00:56:10] To go forward in faith.
[00:56:12] To stand for the great principle of his truth.
[00:56:15] And never be afraid.
[00:56:17] When the opportunity arises.
[00:56:19] To speak of the distinctives.
[00:56:20] For I have found.
[00:56:22] That they are the message.
[00:56:23] You see.
[00:56:24] Why shouldn't the sanctuary message.
[00:56:26] Have been appropriate.
[00:56:28] The Lord knew.
[00:56:28] When we put that down.
[00:56:29] What was going to happen.
[00:56:30] We didn't.
[00:56:31] But the Lord knew.
[00:56:33] After all.
[00:56:34] The very first part.
[00:56:36] Of the message.
[00:56:37] That God has given us.
[00:56:38] To preach to every nation.
[00:56:39] Kindred, tongue and people.
[00:56:40] Is a sanctuary message.
[00:56:42] Fear God.
[00:56:43] And give glory to him.
[00:56:44] For the hour of his.
[00:56:45] Judgment is come.
[00:56:47] And.
[00:56:48] That's what the Lord puts first.
[00:56:50] Often we put it last.
[00:56:51] And we mumble it apologetically.
[00:56:53] At the end.
[00:56:55] It's a great message.
[00:56:56] As a message.
[00:56:57] That I have found.
[00:56:59] Takes hold of the people.
[00:57:01] And.
[00:57:01] I tell you.
[00:57:02] As we have seen the results.
[00:57:04] And the consequences.
[00:57:05] Of what happened.
[00:57:06] In that.
[00:57:06] Wonderful meeting.
[00:57:08] It's had consequences.
[00:57:10] In souls.
[00:57:11] It's had consequences.
[00:57:14] So far as the selling.
[00:57:15] Of truth filled literature.
[00:57:16] Is concerned.
[00:57:18] It's built up.
[00:57:19] The patronage of the hospital.
[00:57:20] It's settled.
[00:57:21] To an unprecedented level.
[00:57:23] It's increased the income.
[00:57:25] Of the hospital.
[00:57:25] I'm not trying to suggest.
[00:57:26] That that's our great desire.
[00:57:28] But we need funds.
[00:57:29] In order to continue.
[00:57:31] It has.
[00:57:32] Opened our health food work.
[00:57:34] We've never been so busy.
[00:57:35] With our little mini martyrs.
[00:57:37] Since those meetings.
[00:57:39] And it gave a whole lot of people.
[00:57:40] An opportunity to see.
[00:57:42] How their blood levels off.
[00:57:43] One man who came back.
[00:57:45] To see me as a patient.
[00:57:46] Came back with his reports.
[00:57:48] And he said.
[00:57:48] I want you to look at this.
[00:57:49] He said.
[00:57:50] Aren't they marvellous?
[00:57:51] He had very good results.
[00:57:52] That didn't seem a good reason.
[00:57:53] To come back and see the dog.
[00:57:55] But he said.
[00:57:56] The reason I've come back is.
[00:57:57] He said.
[00:57:58] You've.
[00:57:58] You've taken so good care of us.
[00:58:00] And such an interest.
[00:58:01] I've got something else.
[00:58:02] He said.
[00:58:02] I've got faith that you'll look after me.
[00:58:04] Well with that.
[00:58:06] And.
[00:58:08] God is.
[00:58:09] Truly blessing.
[00:58:10] Our work there.
[00:58:11] And I pray.
[00:58:12] That you'll remember the work in Malaysia.
[00:58:14] It is a difficult field.
[00:58:15] And yet.
[00:58:16] It is a place.
[00:58:17] Where God is really blessing.
[00:58:18] I only wish.
[00:58:19] That the Heartland team.
[00:58:21] Could come here.
[00:58:22] I want to say that.
[00:58:24] With the same support.
[00:58:26] As it had in Southeast Asia.
[00:58:27] Then in this dear old country.
[00:58:29] We'd see the miracles.
[00:58:31] That we have seen in Southeast Asia.
[00:58:33] There is no doubt.
[00:58:34] That Heartland has never made a bigger impact.
[00:58:37] And I give credit.
[00:58:39] To the leaders of God's church.
[00:58:41] There in Southeast Asia.
[00:58:42] For the wonderful support.
[00:58:43] I just received a letter on Friday.
[00:58:45] From the editor.
[00:58:46] Of our Southeast Asia.
[00:58:48] Union messenger.
[00:58:50] Magazine.
[00:58:51] In which she said.
[00:58:53] How delighted she was.
[00:58:54] To receive my.
[00:58:55] Um.
[00:58:58] Article on the.
[00:58:59] Heartland meetings.
[00:59:02] This is an American woman.
[00:59:04] That edits it.
[00:59:05] This is Laurel and Horning.
[00:59:07] And how she was going to print it.
[00:59:08] With these photographs.
[00:59:10] Uh.
[00:59:10] In the messenger.
[00:59:12] I.
[00:59:12] This is a Southeast Asia.
[00:59:14] Messenger magazine.
[00:59:15] And I'm just so thrilled.
[00:59:17] That.
[00:59:18] When God's leadership.
[00:59:21] Combines.
[00:59:21] With those.
[00:59:23] Who are preaching.
[00:59:25] The.
[00:59:25] Distinctives of our faith.
[00:59:27] Miracles happen.
[00:59:29] God's work progresses.
[00:59:31] And there is a thrilling.
[00:59:34] Thrilling.
[00:59:35] Consequence.
[00:59:36] And I pray.
[00:59:37] That we will work.
[00:59:38] In this country.
[00:59:39] That.
[00:59:39] This can be repeated.
[00:59:41] Here in this country.
[00:59:43] Because.
[00:59:43] I believe.
[00:59:44] That there.
[00:59:45] Are people here.
[00:59:47] Who would be thrilled.
[00:59:47] I'm sure.
[00:59:48] If in Penang.
[00:59:49] Which only has a population.
[00:59:51] Of about three quarters.
[00:59:52] Of a million people.
[00:59:53] We can draw.
[00:59:54] Seven hundred people.
[00:59:55] What could happen in London.
[00:59:56] Or Birmingham.
[00:59:57] Or Glasgow.
[00:59:58] Or some of the.
[00:59:59] Large cities.
[01:00:00] Of this nation.
[01:00:02] If we were first.
[01:00:03] To present.
[01:00:04] The medical.
[01:00:05] And then stand up.
[01:00:06] And say.
[01:00:06] But we're continuing.
[01:00:08] With some spiritual meaning.
[01:00:09] Oh yes.
[01:00:09] You won't get the same numbers there.
[01:00:13] And let them know.
[01:00:15] What those topics are.
[01:00:16] I believe.
[01:00:17] That there would be souls.
[01:00:19] One to the kingdom.
[01:00:20] Using.
[01:00:21] That God.
[01:00:23] Ordained method.
[01:00:25] Oh.
[01:00:26] Brothers and sisters.
[01:00:27] It's just so thrilling.
[01:00:28] To know.
[01:00:29] That when God's people.
[01:00:30] Are united.
[01:00:31] But there's only one.
[01:00:32] Basis of unity.
[01:00:34] I just say this in conclusion.
[01:00:36] And that is truth.
[01:00:40] Never have.
[01:00:41] The slightest interest.
[01:00:42] In unity.
[01:00:43] That is put before you.
[01:00:45] As a name.
[01:00:48] We should have.
[01:00:50] Not have unity.
[01:00:51] As an aim.
[01:00:53] Our aim.
[01:00:54] Should be the truth of God.
[01:00:55] And to uplift it.
[01:00:56] And then.
[01:00:57] We will automatically.
[01:00:58] Have unity.
[01:00:59] The reason.
[01:01:00] That our brothers and sisters.
[01:01:02] Have been so united.
[01:01:03] This weekend.
[01:01:03] Is because we've shared truth together.
[01:01:06] That's the basis.
[01:01:07] Of the unity.
[01:01:08] We can sing.
[01:01:10] In Christ.
[01:01:11] There is no east.
[01:01:12] Nor west.
[01:01:12] In him.
[01:01:12] No north.
[01:01:13] Nor south.
[01:01:15] But you don't get.
[01:01:16] That.
[01:01:17] Unless there's a unity.
[01:01:19] Based upon truth.
[01:01:20] You'll never get.
[01:01:22] Unity.
[01:01:23] Between the races.
[01:01:24] You'll never get.
[01:01:26] Unity.
[01:01:27] Between the churches.
[01:01:28] Unless they are united.
[01:01:31] On faith.
[01:01:32] And those who will be in heaven.
[01:01:34] I want to assure you.
[01:01:37] Will be those who are.
[01:01:38] United on truth.
[01:01:42] All so often.
[01:01:43] I read that text.
[01:01:46] In.
[01:01:48] In John.
[01:01:49] That is.
[01:01:50] Brought to us.
[01:01:51] John 17.
[01:01:52] And it's.
[01:01:53] It's quoted in isolation.
[01:01:56] I'm sad.
[01:01:57] When it's quoted in isolation.
[01:01:59] John chapter 17.
[01:02:02] Verse 21.
[01:02:05] That they.
[01:02:06] All may be one.
[01:02:08] As thou.
[01:02:09] Father art in me.
[01:02:12] And I in thee.
[01:02:13] That they also.
[01:02:14] May be one in us.
[01:02:16] That the world.
[01:02:17] May believe.
[01:02:18] That thou.
[01:02:19] Has sent me.
[01:02:20] That is the great.
[01:02:21] Call.
[01:02:22] For.
[01:02:23] Unity.
[01:02:24] But you know.
[01:02:25] So many people.
[01:02:26] Are putting forward.
[01:02:27] That call today.
[01:02:28] Without.
[01:02:28] The platform.
[01:02:29] That Jesus established.
[01:02:32] You see.
[01:02:33] If you just go up.
[01:02:34] To the 17th verse.
[01:02:35] Jesus.
[01:02:36] Jesus had already.
[01:02:37] Established the platform.
[01:02:38] What did he say?
[01:02:40] Sanctify them.
[01:02:41] Thy truth.
[01:02:43] Thy word is truth.
[01:02:44] And then.
[01:02:45] The 21st verse.
[01:02:46] In case.
[01:02:46] We were too dense.
[01:02:47] To notice it.
[01:02:48] In the.
[01:02:49] I should say.
[01:02:50] The 19th verse.
[01:02:51] In case we.
[01:02:51] Did not notice it.
[01:02:53] In the 17th.
[01:02:54] And for their sakes.
[01:02:56] I sanctify myself.
[01:02:57] That they also.
[01:02:59] Might be sanctified.
[01:03:00] Through the truth.
[01:03:02] Jesus established.
[01:03:03] That platform.
[01:03:04] But so many today.
[01:03:06] Are saying.
[01:03:06] Let's have unity.
[01:03:08] Unity.
[01:03:08] And they never mention.
[01:03:09] The basis of unity.
[01:03:11] Jesus was not.
[01:03:13] Negligent.
[01:03:14] In that respect.
[01:03:16] Jesus was not.
[01:03:17] Negligent.
[01:03:17] In that respect.
[01:03:21] Sanctify them.
[01:03:22] By thy truth.
[01:03:23] Thy word is truth.
[01:03:26] Sanctify them.
[01:03:27] Through the truth.
[01:03:27] Then.
[01:03:28] He could say.
[01:03:29] I would have.
[01:03:30] That they all be one.
[01:03:31] If we don't have that.
[01:03:33] Brothers and sisters.
[01:03:34] We might as well.
[01:03:34] Join the ecumenical movement.
[01:03:37] If all our interest.
[01:03:38] Is unity.
[01:03:39] Then truth.
[01:03:40] Is irrelevant.
[01:03:41] And indeed.
[01:03:42] We should go beyond.
[01:03:43] The ecumenical movement.
[01:03:45] To religions.
[01:03:46] Of all.
[01:03:47] Colors.
[01:03:48] And stripes.
[01:03:48] Of the world.
[01:03:50] You can have unity.
[01:03:51] But remember.
[01:03:54] Just as we mentioned.
[01:03:55] That there is.
[01:03:56] A true love.
[01:03:56] And a false love.
[01:03:57] A true belief.
[01:03:58] And a false belief.
[01:03:59] There is a false unity.
[01:04:01] And much unity.
[01:04:02] That we're.
[01:04:02] Hearing today.
[01:04:03] Is the sort of unity.
[01:04:05] That the devil.
[01:04:05] Is going to have.
[01:04:06] In this world.
[01:04:07] You know.
[01:04:08] That the devil.
[01:04:10] Has a counterfeit.
[01:04:11] Of unity.
[01:04:12] And that of course.
[01:04:13] Is a unity.
[01:04:14] Which is not based.
[01:04:15] Upon truth.
[01:04:15] Truth.
[01:04:16] You know where it's found.
[01:04:17] In Revelation 13.
[01:04:18] Verse 8.
[01:04:19] And perhaps we will close.
[01:04:20] With that.
[01:04:21] Revelation 13.
[01:04:22] Verse 8.
[01:04:25] And all that dwell.
[01:04:27] Upon the earth.
[01:04:28] Shall worship him.
[01:04:30] There's unity.
[01:04:31] It's not talking about Jesus.
[01:04:33] I might say.
[01:04:36] Whose names.
[01:04:37] Are not written.
[01:04:38] In the book of life.
[01:04:39] Of the lamb.
[01:04:40] Slain from the foundation.
[01:04:42] Of the world.
[01:04:43] Unless we have a unity.
[01:04:45] Based on truth.
[01:04:46] We will find ourselves.
[01:04:47] United with that group.
[01:04:51] Let us not have.
[01:04:53] The false unity.
[01:04:54] Based upon error.
[01:04:57] Never.
[01:04:58] Ever.
[01:04:58] Brothers and sisters.
[01:05:00] Subserve truth.
[01:05:02] To unity.
[01:05:04] Uphold truth.
[01:05:06] Then you will.
[01:05:07] Have unity.
[01:05:08] God bless you all.
[01:05:10] It's been a real thrill.
[01:05:11] And a privilege.
[01:05:12] To be with you.
